I think Deltarune fans, even Suselle fans, donât understand the full potential of this ship. And I am SO FUCKING TIRED of seeing the misogyny, lesbophobia, and transphobia against it. Seen on many sites such as here, TikTok, and Twitter. So hereâs my case as to why Suselle is a complex and well written ship.
Before anything else, Susie and Dess are parallels. And, some quick counter arguments.
Boring, too similar to Alphyne? Disproven below. Rushed? So is every other ship, either after no interaction or very little interaction after years, they hang out and get along after not even a week. No angst? Wrong, but, angst doesnât automatically make a ship better either.
First, it starts with a pencil, a small glimmer of hope for one girl. Granted by a sheltered and grieving girl to a homeless (confirmed by 5) and lost girl, it was the first act of unconditional kindness given to the latter. While Susie views it as that, deciding to leave Noelle out of her meanness, the deer had different feelings. Having lost her sister, suddenly, a tough, carefree, confident, and seemingly untouchable girl appear was almost cathartic. So, she observes Susie at first, could she fill the void December left behind? As time goes on, though, she sees both more of Dess and less of Dess. Still far away from reach and so untouchable like Dess once was, but, something is different about Susie, she just knows it. That void wont be filled like how she thought, yet, she doesnât mind. Anything to not confront that day and the aftermath. For susie, it was the first little drop that allowed her to believe she wasnât all bad.
Then, a dark world opens up. They meet face to face for once. Susie is with Kris, just as they were with Dess so many years ago, and hey, she can try to fill that hole again! Only in the Ferris wheel, she is, not what Noelle quite expected. Susie isnât untouchable, in fact, sheâs more alike to the deer than she wouldâve ever expected. Horror fans, awkwardness, how reactive and soft Susie actually is. The emptiness and wish fulfillment aspect of Noelleâs attraction isnât gone, but, it lessens, the purple girl is fully her own person in Noelleâs eyes. For Susie, the first person like her to have ever gotten so up close and personal, and the first (or second) to treat her so well from the start, no exceptions. Yet, tension remains, a ghost haunts them both, one unknowingly. Neither gets each other fully, Susie canât know her struggles or has she the emotional intelligence yet, and Noelle is still a grieving girl who projects onto Susie.
And again, that all changes in the Holidayâs house. Youâd expect Noelle to further project onto Susie, but no. Another face to face and open heart talk, closer than ever. Even if it didnât start out so ideal, Susie shows once more that she is different, and she is so charming in her own way (positively). The two move to Decemberâs room, itâs awkward. The girl Noelle projects her own grief onto and is in the time capsule of a time long past with everything causing said mourning. Itâs different now. Susie breaks the glass that covered the memory of Dess, and it brings Noelle more hope, further out of her trauma, Susie further out of her shell. When Carol gets home, neither remain scared for long, Susie refused to back away, and Noelle canât help but smile and laugh even with her mom around. Now when she sees that guitar, Dess isnât the first thing on her mind, that room isnât so cold. And her momâs words feel⊠less threatening, not as concrete?
Going by the theory that Dess drowned in the lake here-
The festival. Kris is the wing-they, Noelle and Susie are closer than ever, so filled with LOVE. A real ride on a Ferris Wheel. Finally stopping by the lake, chatting and laughing, bonding until the sun begins to set. There, Noelle gains the courage to defy her mother, defy any expectations and doing something crazy. Susie is there, she makes sure water doesnât touch her as she picked her up, suddenly, the lake has a new meaning. A confession, another step closer to full honesty. Itâs, not bad. Noelleâs heart feels whole again, and she feels warm. Susie feels so herself, the most real and free sheâs ever been. But even so, another tragedy is going to happen. Rudy fell, the Roaring and prophecy on the horizon, and neither girl can deny that they donât need each other. Not all tension is gone, their deepest thoughts, worries, hopes will surface, and it wonât be pretty. Itâs all too soon, but, there is no other way. Only time will tell until chapters 6 and 7, where Suselle will be allowed to truly shine.
So, for now, this is all I have. I hope this at least gave more grace, if not convinced people to like Suselle more.
Noelle and Susie are both complicated people who have not yet solved every one of their issues and have deep rooted traumas, and they build on top of each other so well. Susieâs lack of empathy and love throughout life who will latch onto any kindness even if she doesnât know the real person, blind faith. Noelle who will struggle to be her own person, always defined by someone else, is desperate to be both free and in the distant past, subconsciously blocks out the real person, blind to the present. Slowly but surely untangling it all together.
Personally, I want to see this be explored more. Suselle isnât just fluff, and people should begin analyzing these two like they do with theories.
About Flowery, did anyone else get Akio vibes? The way he talked to Susie especially, the whole thing with Asgore was so off. Kinda surprised he wasnât the villain.

I believe it was because Xiao-Die would be taken in for questioning, and because of her tattoo and mental state she would potentially speak in her mother tongue or reveal something she shouldnât. That would give away Qi Yanâs cover, as saying a person speaking the language of the Mongols is her sibling would do. And even if she did say that Xiao-Die was a woman she only helped, there was a chance of her still speaking her first language, raising suspicions. Qi Yan already has amber eyes, and in that period, the government was cracking down on tribes people. It wouldâve put her at risk still.
What if Moeâs friend is Micha? Because I believe that he was never named, and in Michaâs medical report, he is stated to be a white boy. And in the newest Micha upload, clearly they are going to meet and Micha isnât necessarily dead or at least gone.

A thought Iâve been having about RGUâs theme of escaping and dismantling patriarchy-
Thereâs an argument to be made that the anime could be interpreted as anti-theist.
Of course, thereâs the theme I just stated, and religion is entirely a patriarchal construct no matter which one and will always rely on the exploitation of women, especially women who are also part of minorities as seen in Anthy being Indian. She is treated undeniably the worst out of anyone in the cast. For some examples about religion, though, God being referred to as âhe,â child marriage, women being deemed impure, and the overall hypocrisy written in religious texts.
And is that not what is show in RGU? Dios being the ideal prince, basically god. Anthy, a teenager, is the rose BRIDE, the line â girl who cannot become a princess is a witch,â which could be read as if a girl canât reproduce, marry, or fulfill her duties is unworthy of humanity. And the character of Akio is a hypocrite, doing whatever he can to seem powerful and all righteous, yet is just immature and ridiculous when looking below the surface.
Of course, all of that is not portrayed in a positive light, with every bit of patriarchy/religion being shed from Utena and Anthy at the end of the movie. With these two being the best and happiest they could be. In case this wasnât obvious, Iâm not the best with words, I do believe this can be read as encouragement to escape religion and fight against it.
I can go on so much further with the parallels between Ohtori and religions, not just the Abrahamic ones but all of them, but I donât have the energy for a full essay.
Something Iâd like to say about Derek and Avery, these two are probably lonely as fuck.
Avery, spending his New Yearâs Eve searching for a guy that only warned him. That implies he has no family or is cut off from them, and that he was likely neglected in some way. Going through the horrors just to help a random, and should be creepy guy because he knows your name, for one book is a little bit pathetic.
Derlord/Derek is lonely as in he knows that much about minecraft. Like, who but chronically online loners would know that about shulker boxes. And him dedicating his final words to reassuring Avery implied that he has an at least complicated family too. Parallels, manâŠ
