Strong believer that any group of people- whether it be friends, coworkers, colleges, family, etc- should have a group quote book to some capacity.
It’s such an awesome thing to immortalize some cornball shit someone said so you can look back and remember it. It draws everyone closer.
Make it in your notes app. Make it in Google Docs. Write them in a physical book. There are so many ways to do it.
The theater at my school had this thing called Copy Paste, where if you said something quote-worthy, someone would say Copy. You’d have the memorize that quote and repeat it whenever someone said Paste. Eventually you’d get a new copy and the cycle continues.
Get creative or stay basic! As long as you have a way to remember silly things that everyone says, it’ll be well worth it. I just started one for my coworkers and it’s awesome.
*ahem*…. Allow me to set the scene. New York, 1987. I’m cornered in a back alley. I belt out Rachel Platten’s hit single “Fight Song” as I grab the cop’s gun.
My mom was talking about how AI is a necessary evil, not to be the woker but genuinely what makes it necessary. What makes AI so important that it is worth the environmental destruction, sexual violence/exploitation, social isolation, and everything else that has arisen from it? Does it cure cancer? Does it end wars? Does it feed the hungry? Does it do a single thing that we could not do before?
I have no empathy for “AI addiction.” Dependency on something so harmful and unnecessary is honestly pathetic. I don’t even think it deserves to be called “addiction.” Addiction is a morally neutral thing, AI usage is objectively evil. Get off your ass, pull up your pants and stop jerking off to Chat GPT you useless soggy ziplock.
Trial and error, imperfection, these things are so definitively human. Why would you choose to remove these things that are as engrained as fingerprints?
Anyways. Fuck AI.
Man. High school. High school fucking sucks. The last 3 years have been miserable and I’ve tried to cut them short more times than I’ll ever admit. But also. It’s been the greatest experience of my life, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be this safe again. But also I can’t wait to get out of this town and restart. But also I will always carry the weight of everyone I have ever loved and have always loved. And also I don’t want to ever have a meaningful relationship again. And also i might be the coolest person ever. And also I’m fuckin evil or something.
Sometimes there are no wrong answers.
Being a human is kinda hard. First you gotta figure out how to be normal so people will like you. Then you gotta stay normal. And all the while your mind is up and down and zigzagging, you go from feeling like a genius to hating everyone you know you love. Being a human is kinda hard.
More US citizens are being called "terrorists" for the dumbest shit. And honestly, keep calling us that. I dare the government to continue labeling organizations and people who do not align with their system as terrorists because eventually we'll all be terrorists. And I'd rather be called a terrorist by the government than a product, a slave, or a number.
I’m living for your radical arc bro ily
My friends told me I should manifest the things I want so here are the reasons I should get to play Persephone in my school’s production of Hadestown 🥹
#1 i have so much enthusiasm for her character and adore her so much
#2 Out of everyone I know who is auditioning for her, I’m the only one who truly and entirely gives a fuck about the political significance of the show and character.
#3 I know for a fact I can capture her energy really well
#4 I need a fucking win, high school has been so shit for me please chat
This is not meant to be a self-pitying post or diss any of my competitors, the majority are very kind people who I care about and respect very much. This is more so to remind myself I have justifiable reasons to want things. I will break all of the legs just wait.
People always wanna talk about how Orpheus and Hermes represent/exemplify the theme of hope, but as a token Persephone stan, WHAT ABOUT SEPH LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME.
Her life is shit, her husband is horrible. She’s abused and deprived of light and everything good until all she has is alcohol. But she still loves Hades. Despite it all she loves Hades. It’s buried under a multitude of things, but in the one-on-one scenes you can tell she still loves him, otherwise she would have given up hope. She’s wrong to have hope in her husband. At least in my eyes, Hades is beyond redemption. But Persephone chooses to mostly ignore it, in part because she’s so inebriated but also because while she may be a god, she’s ultimately only human. She doesn’t want to accept that Hades is as bad as he, well, is. Hope and ignorance sometimes go hand in hand.
On the road to hell there was a railroad car...
people always talk about the doomed love timeloop when they talk about hadestown. look i love that shit as much as the next homosexual but can we please talk about the revolutionary politics. genuinely one of the best anticapitalist pieces of art of the 21st century. can we watch act 2 with our brains please
WE NEED A NATIVE AMERICAN MAGICAL GIRL RIGHT THE FUCK NOW
ID DO THIS BUT IM WHITE IDK IF ITS MY PLACE
Sally Bowles…………. She’s so awful……she reminds me so terribly of exactly who I dread becoming. She is the embodiment of the masses, passive and self-absorbed until she gains consciousness far too late in the story. By then, all she can do is scream and continue singing as everything goes to shit. “It’s just politics, and what has that got to do with us?” Ooh my girl. I’ve encountered this mindset a billion times over, and it’s never any less frustrating. I am able to somewhat empathize with the “politically neutral,” but the border between ‘protecting your peace’ and simply being ignorant runs incredibly thin. Sally watches as “just politics” brings pain and misfortune to those around her. She is presented with an easy exit, but she doesn’t take it. She has an abortion and stays in Berlin. She digs her own grave through denial and complacency. She just wants to keep performing and being larger-than-life, and that is what leads her to her fate. She’s the frog in the pot, she’s a prisoner through her own actions but that doesn’t make the story any less tragic.
I adore Sally. I’ve always favored the bright, over-the-top characters in media, the deliciously self-obsessed, the ‘new women’ as they’re sometimes portrayed. Sally Bowles, Myrtle Wilson, Maureen (Rent), so on and so forth. They’re some of my favorite characters to analyze, write, and portray. I LOVE conventionally ‘trashy women,’ especially when they’re not great people.
Anyways, this is a Sally Bowles appreciation post, I adore her despite how horrible her character is. One of my dream roles of all time, PLEASE someone put on an off-broadway Cabaret and let me be Sally PLEASE.
Brown is a beautiful color FUCK all the propaganda trying to convince us its ugly.
Hear me out, racism is the reason for this
Hadestown but Eurydice is specifically played by a native woman. And hades is the designated white man. The industrialist who paves through the forests and fields with stone and metal. Devouring land that was never his…….. resources are depleted, crops die and people starve, it ain’t right and it ain’t natural but it’s what happens. It’s what has already happened, we’ve heard this story before and it never gets less disgusting. The allegories would lowk go crazy. Just a thought.
I genuinely ate with this one #self-glaze
Confession, I headcanon Hadestown Persephone as bipolar to some degree. It may just be a coping mechanism- I was supposed to get diagnosed with bipolar a while back but am still in denial about it a bit.- I think it just fits her character really well; the moments of manic joy (Livin it up on top, Our lady of the underground, etc.) intercepted by moments of somber clarity (also OLOTU, How Long?, etc.) are really fascinating to portray and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this character. (I need this role so bad, we are so locked in)
Normalize getting so giddy while practicing a song you like that you gotta focus to prevent giggling jovially
