fuck it, i never ever do those “reblog for X, this one really works!” posts, but this one doesn’t have any of that BS, this is just straight up wishing us good things; and then the comment doesn’t even say any of that either. Zero claims on this post, all positive vibes
May you end this week feeling ever more certain of a future you’ll love

My man was really gonna let a fucking BEAR into his house for the views and the BEAR had to be the sensible one here
I love bears, they are my favorite animal and I'm delighted to see pictures and videos of them taken from safe and responsible distances in the bears natural habitat. However I absolutely hate videos like this so much. People need to stop with the attitude that bears are just big cuddly dogs and learn some healthy fear and respect for these animals. They are killing machines, everything about them makes them some of the world's most powerful apex predators.
That bear has 2 tags on its ears making it a problem bear and in most places with bear populations in North America its a 3 strikes you're out system. If that bear gets in any more trouble they will kill it, and the problem with problem bears is that they've learned where food is, they know how to get into houses, and they know how doorknobs work.
PURPOSEFULLY letting a bear into your home only increases the likelihood that: (1) you will be killed and the bear will be euthanized. (2) the bear will ransack your home and the bear will be euthanized. (3) the bear will try to enter other homes in your neighborhood and your neighbors could get killed and the bear will be euthanized.
-You see where I'm going with this. There are no good outcomes of humans purposefully interacting with bears, you will die or they will die.
This video isn't cute or funny it's reckless endangerment and I seriously hope the person who filmed this gets legal action taken against them, they are extremely lucky to be alive.
but who cares? it's just us
please please PLEASE reblog this if you care
Tilda Swinton risked arrest waving a rainbow flag in front of the Kremlin in violation of Russia’s new homosexual propaganda bill. And she wants everyone who can to reblog it in solidarity.

Does anyone remember reading a fic, where R is an avenger and they are in a relationship with Natasha, but then she leaves for like 2 years and doesn’t tell anyone why or say goodbye, and then comes back out of nowhere? Like I can’t seem to remember the name of it!!
Edit: I’m remembering more about it, Clint knows why she left and he was in contact with her the whole time, but he doesn’t say why she left, he just encourages Natasha to finally tell us, she kinda does when she is drunk and half asleep Edit: It was also a very angsty fic, if you couldn’t tell
Edit: I’ve been looking through my liked ones for like ever!! I wish I could separate them through the tags!!
PLEASE REBLOG! Even if YOU don’t recognize it, SOMEONE ELSE might! PLEASE REBLOG!!
Mission With The Avengers
A/N: Here’s a new oneshot! I apologize for the little bit I took off! I’ve been super busy! But, I’m back! And I’m back with a long one! My requests are open, so if you have one, send it through my ask box! THIS WASN’T EDITED/LOOKED OVER SO I APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE FOR ANY MISTAKES!!!
Warnings: Injured reader (Let me know if I need to add more!)
Word Count: 5,044
Summary: The Avengers pick ten (10) S.H.I.E.L.D Agents to help them with a mission. You are one of the Agents that gets picked. You get paired up with Black Widow. Will you help the Avengers succeed their mission? Or will you assist them in failing?
You were surprised, no, more than surprised when Nick Fury showed up at the S.H.I.E.L.D compound. He only came when something important was going on. You were sitting in your dorm with your roommate, aka your best friend, when an Agent came in to tell you that Nick Fury has requested to speak to you. You were nervous for sure. The thought of S.H.I.E.L.D getting Nick Fury himself to kick you out of the S.H.I.E.L.D program and fire you from being an Agent definitely crossed your mind. You had gotten into a decent amount of trouble lately - sneaking out of your dorm at night to do stupid shit with your best friend for example - so you wouldn’t be surprised. You would definitely be upset if you were going to get fired.
You’re standing at attention, not moving a single muscle in front of Nick Fury. He stands directly in front of you, looking at you carefully. You feel your hands start to sweat due to your nervousness.
“Agent Y/L/N,” Nick Fury says. “Get your gear ready, you’re coming with me.” Nick Fury looks at you. “Go! Double time, Agent!” He commands when you don’t move.
You quickly salute Nick Fury before running off to grab your gear. You pull on your S.H.I.E.L.D mission uniform - black pants, a shirt with ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ across the front, black combat boots, and a baseball hat that also has ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ across it. You pull a holster up your right leg and stash a pistol in it.
You quickly leg it back to the room where you met Nick Fury in. You enter the room and notice there are nine other S.H.I.E.L.D Agents, all of them dressed in their gear.
“Alright, Agents,” Nick Fury says. “Follow me!”
Nick Fury leads you and the nine other Agents out of the S.H.I.E.L.D compound. Once you’re all led outside, Nick Fury leads you to a quinjet. “Pile on,” Nick says as the quinjet door opens.
You follow behind, being the last one to step into the quinjet. You sit next to one of the other Agents, giving them an awkward smile as you do.
The quinjet takes off and an awkward silence fills the air.
“So, where are we going?” One of the Agents asks.
Nick Fury looks at the Agent and gives a small smirk. “I’m taking you to see the Avengers.”
“The Avengers?” A different Agent asks.
The other nine Agents gasp and chatter amongst each other about the Avengers.
You sit quietly, and place your hands on your knees. You tap your fingers against your knees. If Nick Fury came to the S.H.I.E.L.D compound to collect ten Agents, and is now taking you to the Avengers, something has to be wrong.
—
The quinjet landed on a helicarrier, and Nick Fury led you and the other nine Agents onto the deck. You and the Agents are now standing at attention on the deck of the helicarrier.
You see Nick Fury talking to the Avengers and notice that Nick Fury points at you. The Avengers walk past, and you find yourself straightening your back, wanting to make a good impression.
“Get your team inside, we’re about to take off,” Captain America orders, looking at you.
Your eyes widen. Captain America just talked to you an-
“You heard the Captain, Agent Leader, get you Agents inside!” Nick Fury commands.
Agent Leader?
You don’t have any time to question it. You quickly salute. “Sir!”
You start running, leading the other Agents inside. As you run, you watch as people start to strap down all the aircrafts on the helicarrier. You make it inside, and move to stand next to a wall. You stand at attention and the other Agents follow your lead. You all stand there, waiting for your next orders.
Captain America arrives and stands in front of all of you, the other Avengers stand next to him. “We got a tip that Hydra is planning an attack on us. We are trying to reach their base before they can do that! We called upon the ten of you for extra help. The ten of you were hand picked by us,” Captain America gestures to himself and the rest of the Avengers. “All of us have visited the S.H.I.E.L.D compound and we each hand selected two of you, except Agent Romanoff who only selected one, and myself who then selected three.” Captain America looks between the ten of you. “We need your help. You wouldn’t be her otherwise. You were all picked for a reason, and you’re going to help us take down a Hydra base today. Stand by and await new orders.”
You all salute Captain America and the rest of the Avengers. The Avengers briskly walk away, starting a conversation as they do. You aren’t sure how long you stood in that one spot standing at attention, but you know it was a long time. Of course you were used to standing at attention for long periods of time, but your feet are really starting to get sore.
You’re released from your attention stance when an alarm starts to blare through the helicarrier. Bright red lights start to flash through the helicarrier.
“All personnel to their stations, this is not a drill. Repeat, all personnel to their station, this is not a drill.” The message repeats itself over and over, accompanying the flashing red lights.
The Avengers run over to you and the other Agents. “We were hoping to reach the Hydra base before they got an attack on us, but as you can see, that didn’t happen,” Captain America says. He points at three people. “You three, with me! Let’s go!” Captain America and the three Agents run off.
“You two mortals, you’re coming with me!” Thor says, running off with the Agents following closely behind.
“The two of you are with me,” Tony says, pointing at two Agents. “Try and keep up!” Tony runs off with the two Agents.
“You two,” Clint uses his fingers to beckon the two Agents next to you and the three of them run off.
“That leaves you with me,” Black Widow looks at you before quickly turning on her heel. She starts to run, but stops when she notices you aren’t following. “Are you going to stand and stare at me all day? Did I make a mistake in choosing you? Start moving!” Black Widow says before running off.
You start running, staying close behind Black Widow. You pull your gun from the holster on your leg.
“Steve assigned us to the deck,” Black Widow says. “So, we’ll be taking care of any Hydra agents on the deck, so keep an eye out for anyone who is already out there and anyone who might be trying to get on the deck.” You don’t acknowledge her, your nerves getting the better of you. She looks over her shoulder at you, “Do you understand the mission, Agent?”
Your eyes widen as you look past Black Widow. You raise your gun and aim it right past her head. The both of you are still running, so your aim isn’t the steadiest due to the bounce in your step.
“If you shoot me-”
You fire your gun and the bullet whizzes past Black Widow’s head. You watch as it hits the Hydra goon in the chest. They fall down to the ground and go limp.
Black Widow faces forward, looking at the man you took down as she runs past him. “Nice work.”
You look down at the body as you run past it, but look up after a quick glance. You need to stay focused, no need to get emotional over killing someone now. That wasn’t your first kill, of course it wasn’t, you’ve been on plenty of missions with S.H.I.E.L.D, but the killing didn’t get any easier.
You and Black Widow make it onto the deck and immediately you see the chaos around you. Gunshots echo from every area of the deck, explosions go off, and dead bodies litter the deck - both S.H.I.E.L.D and Hydra bodies.
“Come on, follow me!”
You follow Black Widow as she runs behind an aircraft, ducking for cover - well as much cover as possible as you entered the deck from the middle entrance, and there’s only so much cover you can get in the middle.
You poke your head up from behind the aircraft and point your gun. You pull the trigger, hitting a Hydra goon in the shoulder. You shoot at them again, this time putting a bullet in the middle of their head. You quickly duck back down behind the aircraft.
“What did you see?” Black Widow asks.
“Not much. There’s a fuck ton of them out there. Some of our people are still out there, but there’s not a lot of them, ma’am.”
“Do not call me that,” Black Widow says, shooting a Hydra goon as they run past the aircraft and into her view - she nails him in the back of the head.
“What would you like me to call you? Miss Widow?”
“Natasha, call me Natasha,” She says, glancing at you. “What’s your name, Agent?” “Y/L/N. Y/N Y/L/N,” You say. “Shouldn’t you know if you picked me out?”
Natasha ignores your statement. “Well, Agent Y/L/N, this is a mission, but it can be a teaching moment. What would you do?”
“Try and save as many of our people as possible, but also take out as many Hyda Agents as possible,” You say confidently.
Natasha nods. SHe pokes her head up slightly, beckoning with her hand for you to do the same - and you do. “You see those three S.H.I.E.L.D members over there?” Natasha points with her gun. You follow her gun to where she’s pointing. You see three S.H.I.E.L.D members trapped in a doorway with Hydra goons coming at them from left and right.
You nod, “Yes.”
“You’re going to go for them, and I’m going to go for those two right there,” She points with her gun. “And we’re going to take out as many Hydra Agents as possible.” She ducks back down and you follow. “Play it smart and be careful. Take this, we can communicate with it,” Natasha hands you a small earpiece. You take it and put it in your left ear. “Are you ready, Agent Y/L/N?”
“Yes.”
“Then I’ll see you after the chaos is cleaned up.” With that, Natasha runs in the direction she said she would.
You take a deep breath, ready your gun and run towards the three S.H.I.E.L.D members.
You shoot at any Hydra goons you pass, ducking behind anything you can when there’s too many for you to handle out in the open.
Your heart beats heavily in your chest, and your breaths come heavy as your feet pound onto the deck of the helicarrier as you run.
As you’re running across the deck, someone grabs your shoulder with a tight grip and pulls you back. They slam you into the ground. You land on your back hard, and you groan in pain when your head slams against the deck of the helicarrier. “Fuck!” You groan.
You go to roll onto your side when a foot stomps down onto your stomach. The wind immediately gets knocked out of you. Your vision is blurry and you try to make sense of what’s going on. You put your left hand out in front of you, aiming as best as you can with your blurry vision. But, as you go to pull the trigger, you realize your gun is missing from your hand.
The person standing above you laughs. “Grab her.”
You’re lifted onto your feet and two people grip your arms - one person on either side of you. Your head feels heavy and it falls forward.
“What’s going on over there, Agent Y/L/N?” Natasha’s voice comes through your earpiece and it pulls you out of your daze.
You slowly lift your head and look around the deck. You spot Natasha ducked behind another aircraft, looking at you. “It’s nothing I can’t handle. I’ve got it,” You say.
“Good, because you have a mission to do!” Natasha says.
“Sir, why don’t we just kill her?” One of the goons holding you asks.
“She’s a hostage,” The man says. “We can use that to our advantage.”
“You’re going to have to try a little harder if you want to take me,” You say.
“What’s that?” The man asks.
You swing your leg forward and swing it back, kicking one of them that’s holding you in the knee. You hear his knee snap as your combat boot connects with it. He lets go of you and screams out in pain. He falls to the ground and grabs his knee. You bring your now free arm around and punch the other man that’s holding you. Your fist connects with his face. He lets go of your arm and you reach forward and grab his gun from his utility belt. You point it at him and shoot him in the head. You turn to the man on the ground holding his knee and do the same to him.
You turn to the main man, and point the gun at him. You realize he’s much bigger than you. He throws a punch and you lean back, dodging the punch. He slaps the gun from your hand, leaving you defenseless once again.
You throw a punch at the man, hitting him in the face. You bring your leg up and kick the man in the abdomen. As he’s hunched over in pain, you grab the back of his head and pull your knee into his face. He stumbles back, bringing his hand to grasp his face. You lean down and pick up the gun he slapped out of your hand. You point it at him, aiming for his head, and pull the trigger.
You look over at the S.H.I.E.L.D members who are still cornered. They’re not going to last much longer, and you know that. You aren’t too far away, you just need to pick up the pace.
So, that’s exactly what you do. You take off running, running faster than you’ve ever run before. You shoot at more Hydra goons as you pass them, making sure not to slow down as you do so.
“We’re safe over here, Agent Y/L/N.” You look to your right where Natasha is, and see that she and the other S.H.I.E.L.D members are in fact safe. “I’m going to send them back inside to safety, do the same with those over there.”
As you get closer to your destination, you start to shoot at the Hydra goons that are cornering the S.H.I.E.L.D members. You quickly clear out the Hydra goons, helping the S.H.I.E.L.D members.
“Are you guys okay?” You ask, panting. You’re out of breath from all the running, plus, you’re still a little winded from getting a stomp to the stomach.
“We are now! Thank you for your help!”
“You’re welcome. Now, get inside and find somewhere safe to hide!”
“The door is locked, we can’t get in! That’s how we got trapped here!”
You pull on the door to find that it is indeed locked. You backup a few steps and bring your foot back. You kick your foot forward, slamming flat against the door. The door flies open. “Go! Get inside!” You step out of the way, allowing them to run in.
“I’m secure over here.”
“Good. Start making your way back to where we started. We still have to clear out the other side of the deck.”
“I’m on my way.”
You turn around and a sharp pain courses through your body as a gunshot rings out. You bring your gun up, your hand shaking as you do. You aim it at the Hydra goon in front of you. You watch as they tumble to the ground.
You look down, blood soaking your S.H.I.E.L.D shirt. You press your free hand, the one not holding your gun, to your abdomen to try and stop the bleeding. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!” You curse.
You stumble forward, you still have a mission to do, and you’re going to complete it if it’s the last thing you do. You remove your hand from your abdomen and look down at your blood soaked hand.
You start to run, or run as best as you can with a gunshot wound to your abdomen. As you’re running to meet back up with Natasha, one of the airships she’s near blows up. You watch as she’s sent off the edge of the helicarrier. Your eyes go wide as you run faster to make it to her location.
“Natasha?” You continue to run, wincing in pain as you do. “Natasha? Please tell me you’re okay?” You quickly reach the destination she got thrown off by the explosion. You see a Hydra goon standing at the edge of the helicarrier looking over the edge. You raise your gun and shoot them. They slump forward and fall off the edge of the helicarrier.
You see a hand gripping the edge of the helicarrier and see that it’s slipping. You run forward, jumping and landing on your stomach, grunting in pain. You let your gun fall out of your hand and grab at the hand with both of yours just as the hand slips off of the helicarrier. You watch as your gun falls off the helicarrier and disappears below the clouds. You focus on who is hanging from your hands, seeing Natasha dangling from your hands.
“About time,” She says. “Pull me up!”
You start to pull her up when you feel a gun pressed against the back of your head. You look at Natasha and you feel a foot press against your back.
“Well, this is a good position to be in,” You say sarcastically.
“Agent, why did you stop pulling me up?” Natasha asks.
You look down at her hand, the one that you aren’t gripping tightly with both of yours. You eye her gun and look back up at her, making eye contact. “There’s just a gun placed against the back of my head, and a foot on my back, holding me into place, no biggie!” You glance at her gun again, and then back at her, trying to give her the hint.
Understanding what you’re saying with your eyes, she lifts her arm up, holding her gun out for you. You’re nervous to let go of her hand. You don’t know if you have enough strength to continue to hold her up with one hand. You slowly let go of her hand with one of yours. Your other hand grips Natasha’s hand tighter. Her hand also seems to grip yours tighter.
You reach out and grab your gun. “We can talk this out, right? Just take the gun from my head and get your foot off my back and we can have a nice little chat.” The gun or the foot is removed. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” You reach behind you and blindly point the gun. You shoot once, then twice. You hear a body hit the ground. The pressure of the gun and the foot is removed.
You set the gun at your side and reach back down with your other hand, gripping Natasha’s with both of your hands.
“Now pull me up!” Natasha says.
You start to pull Natasha up, wincing at the pain in your side. Your movements slow and your eyes close.
“Hey! What’re you doing?” Natasha asks.
You shake your head and open your eyes. “Sorry, I-”
“Don’t be sorry, just pull me up!” Natasha says.
You try pulling Natasha up again, but you fail again. “I can’t!” You say frustradely.
“What the hell is going on with you?” Natasha asks. “Why can’t you just pull me up?”
“I got shot, okay!” You shout. “I’m getting weaker by the second!”
“You got shot?” Natasha asks. “And you’re just now telling me?” “Oh, I’m sorry, did you want me to tell you while I had a gun pressed to the back of my head?” You ask sarcastically.
Natasha sighs. “Try again, you can do this. I can’t dangle here all day!” “I know! I’m trying!” You say.
Natasha’s hand slips. You quickly tighten your grip. “You have to pull me up!” Natasha begs, looking up at you.
You don’t know if it’s her begging or the way she looks at you, but one of those things, if not both, give you the strength you need to pull Natasha up.
You pull her up, falling onto your back as you pull her onto the deck. You lay on your back and look up at the sky.
Natasha kneels down next to you and her face comes into your view. “I need you to stand up. I need to get you to cover!”
You attempt to stand up, and fail. Natasha grabs one of your hands and puts her other hand under your back. “Come on, I got you!” Natasha helps you to your feet.
Once you’re on your feet, Natasha wraps your arm around her shoulder and puts her arm around your waist. She starts to lead you to cover. You start to get really dizzy.
Natasha sets you down, propping you up against a big metal box that says ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ on the side of it. She kneels down in front of you and lifts your shirt, pressing both of her hands to the wound. You grunt in pain as she does so.
Your head falls back against the metal box and your eyes flutter shut.
“Hey, no,” Natasha’s voice is strict. She brings one of her hands to slap your face lightly, leaving your own blood on your face where she slapped. You open your eyes slightly. “Keep your eyes open.”
“I’m tired,” You whisper.
“I know,” Natasha says. “But I need you to stay awake.”
You nod, but your eyes shut again.
“One wounded with a GSW to the abdomen on the deck. I need backup and medical immediately!” Natasha’s hand lightly slaps your face again and you open your eyes. “Talk to me.”
“About what?” Your voice is quiet and hoarse.
“Anything,” Natasha says.
“I saw you,” You say.
“Yeah? Where did you see me?”
“On the television. I-” You cough, interrupting yourself and blood spills out of your mouth. You groan at the pain that the cough brought.
“You’re okay,” Natasha says, wiping the blood that came out of your mouth with the top of your shirt. She quickly returns her hand to keep applying pressure to your wound. “Tell me more about seeing me on television.”
“I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life,” You admit. “I have gone to and graduated college, but didn’t get a job in my major. But then,” You pause to take a deep breath. “I saw you on television. I learned about S.H.I.E.L.D and I trained like hell. I finally applied for the program and got accepted. I wanted to do what you do, I wanted to save people.”
“And you did,” Natasha says. “Today, you did exactly what I do.”
“It was also a dream of mine to-” Your eyes flutter shut again.
Natasha nudges you lightly with her shoulder, and your eyes open slightly. “It was a dream of yours to what?” She asks.
“To meet you,” You say. “And I didn’t just get to meet you, but I got to work alongside you. That’s even better. And if that’s the last thing I got to do, it’s something I can be happy about.”
“You’re not going to - you’re going to be fine!” Natasha says.
A door nearby slams open. “Natasha? Are you okay?”
You look past Natasha, seeing Captain America. He’s leading the three Agents he took and a medical crew.
“I’m fine, Rogers. It’s Agent Y/L/N.”
“Medical!” Captain America points to you. “Help Agent Y/L/N!”
The medical team rushes to you, pushing Natasha aside. You immediately miss Natasha’s hands that were pressed against your abdomen. They’re replaced with someone else’s, but they feel different.
You feel a prick in your arm and look down, seeing an IV now jammed into your arm. You feel your eyes closing, but in the back of your mind, Natasha’s voice is telling you not to, urging you to continue talking to her. But no matter how hard you try, your eyes drift shut.
—
Your eyes flutter open. Your gaze lands on a white ceiling. A slow rhythmic beeping is the only thing you hear. You look to your left, seeing Natasha sitting in a chair next to the hospital bed you’re in. Her arms are crossed over her chest and her head is leaning against the wall behind her. Her eyes are shut and a faint snoring comes from her.
“You know, she hasn’t left your side once.”
You focus your attention ahead, seeing Nick Fury standing in the doorway of the room.
“Ever since they brought you from the deck into this room. She was at your side the entire time,” Nick Fury steps into the room, standing at the edge of the bed you’re in.
“Agent Romanoff told us what you did,” Nick Fury says. “That was very brave of you, Agent Y/L/N. The other Agents brought here today weren’t nearly as brave as you. Most of them were cowardly, hiding in rooms and staying away from the action. But Agent Romanoff told me you went straight into the action with her. She also said she couldn’t have done it without you. So, let’s just say, you’ll be seeing a lot more of me, Agent Y/L/N.” With that, Nick Fury turns and leaves the room.
You hear a rustling from Natasha and turn your head towards her. She runs her hands down her face and looks at you tiredly. “Hey, you,” She smiles.
You smile back at her. “Hi.”
“How’re you feeling?” She asks, reaching forward and grabbing one of your hands with hers.
“Like I just got shot,” You joke.
Natasha lets out a small chuckle. “You uh, you scared me back there,” Natasha admits.
You squeeze her hand reassuringly. “I’m fine. I’m alive because of you.”
“Technically, you’re alive because of the medical team,” Natasha says. “They said any second later and you wouldn’t have made it.”
“I’m here though,” You say. “And alive.”
Natasha nods. “You said-”
“Yeah, I said a lot of things,” You cut Natasha off. “I thought I was going to die, so I just kept on babbling and talking, plus you kept telling me to talk so I did, and that’s why I said the thi-”
You feel Natasha’s lips connect with yours, cutting your babbling off. The kiss is short, but sweet. Natasha pulls back, looking at you. She smiles. “I saw you a lot at the S.H.I.E.L.D compound while we were there scouting for Agents. You worked harder than anyone else I saw.”
“I mean, I did mention that I trained like hell,” You say. “I wasn’t going to stop training like that just because I got into the program. I still needed to work hard if I ever wanted to be like you.”
“And you did,” Natasha says. “I watched you train, I knew I was going to choose you after the first day of scouting.”
“I’m that impressive, huh?” You joke with a smile.
Natasha nods. “You are impressive. You know how to fight, you know how to shoot a gun, and most importantly, you know how to have someone else’s back. And you did all of that, better than anyone else.”
You blush at Natasha’s comment. “Mr. Fury told me that he’d be seeing a lot more of me,” You inform.
“That’s a good thing,” Natasha says. “He’s probably going to promote you to a position where you’ll be working a lot more with him.”
“That’s kind of intimidating,” You admit.
“You’ll do great,” Natasha says. “Maybe one day we’ll work together again.”
“I sure hope so,” You say with a smile.
“Plus, I think I’ll be seeing a lot more of you too,” Natasha says with a smile. “I mean, if that’s something you would want,” Natasha says, scratching the smile of her neck nervously.
“I would like that,” You say.
Natasha smiles at you. “Me too.”
—
Two Months Later
“You know, when Fury said he’d be seeing a lot more of me, and then you said he was probab;y going to promote me to a position where I’d be working a lot with him,” You say, shooting your gun at someone who comes up behind Natasha. “I didn’t think I’d become an Avenger!”
Natasha whips around, and points her gun in your direction. She shoots and the bullet whizzes past you and hits someone behind you. “Well, isn’t this fun?”
“I mean yes,” You say, quickly reloading your gun. “I love working with my girlfriend, but I wasn’t expecting it!”
“Awe, you’re sweet, babe!” Natasha says.
“Can you two please stop flirting and focus on the mission?” Steve asks.
“I’m with Rogers on this one,” Tony says. “Plus, I see the target. Y/L/N and Agent Romanoff, it’s just south of your position!”
You and Natasha look at each other.
“I got your back,” You say, smirking at her.
“I know you do,” She smirks at you. “And I’ve got yours. Now come on, let’s finish this mission.”

Silly Little Games
Crouching beside the blazing fireplace you glance at your reflection in the mirror hanging above.
Why the hell does Tony have a mirror on the ceiling, you think to yourself.
You try to crouch more and more into the corner, pushing yourself further into the hidden shadows. If you could you would sink into the ground. Every time the team played hide-and-seek you were always the first to get found out and it annoyed the hell out of you.

Natasha
After three weeks of visiting you in the hospital daily, Natasha is frustrated with how little she knows about you. She only knows the facts about what happened and that is mainly from reading the mission files.
Anytime she asks you how you are feeling, you shut down and stop talking. She has even gone so far as to try to get a rise out of you. Nothing. You simply looked at her and asked her to leave. You didn’t even demand Natasha leave! You just stared at her and asked her to “please leave.”
How do I get her to react to anything?! How to I get her to smile? How do I get her to get mad?
“Why are you trying so hard to get a reaction out of Y/N?” Wanda asked as she walks up behind Natasha as she stands at the entrance to the medical wing.
“Wanda, don’t read my thoughts it is really creepy.”

Temporary Translucence | Part Two
Summary: Forced to carry the burden of words and judgement, the reader finds a confidence that outshines the harshness.
The journey home is silent, with each of the Avengers side eying the others and glancing at you to gauge when would be the appropriate time to confront you.
“(Y/N), hey. I wanted to…I mean the team…We wanted to say thank you for what you did.”
With a nod of your head, you acknowledge Steve’s statement while simultaneously shutting down any further discussion. There’s no need to talk. They hadn’t wanted to do it before, so why start now?
When Monday rolls around, you’re feeling accomplished and refreshed for the first time since joining the team. A weight has been lifted off your shoulders, allowing you to walk around the Tower with your head held high.
If only you had known that morning what the week had in store for you.
It’s early evening when the team settles in the kitchen to eat dinner. Not one to loiter where you are not welcome, you grab your drink and move to make a swift exit.
“Oh (Y/N)! You’re not gonna join us?”
The question takes you by surprise. They have never offered you to eat with them before. The few times you had joined them, by sheer coincidence of timing and location, you felt like an unwanted guest. Like a stranger, you sat amongst a group that shared laughs and memories you could not recall.
“No. I ate earlier.”
Tony clears his throat, cutting through the tension of your curt response to catch your attention, “Steve and I were discussing a new mission. We think your set of skills would be perfect for the job. You’d leave Friday evening.”
“Of course. Who else is going?”
“Just you. You can take care of it, right? We can discuss the details in the morning. I have the dossier and plans detailed for you.”
“I’ll take it.”
“Good! Now that that is settled, let’s dig in. I’m starving.”
You make your exit but stop short when you hear your name brought up in conversation. You mentally scold yourself for even wanting to hear what they have to say. It doesn’t matter anymore, but part of you wants and needs to know.
“Steve, are sure this is a good idea? Giving (Y/N) a mission so soon?”
“There’s no reason not to give her a solo mission now.”
“Yes, but what if…” Steve and Tony wait for Bucky to finish. It’s obvious, from how well you handled the last one, that you can take one of your own. Yet, something still nags at Bucky’s mind, a feeling that he can’t dismiss just on seeing your skills only. If anything, bearing witness to your unrivaled combat talents has led him to feel further anxiety about the situation.
“I saw it too. The look (Y/N) made is what you’re talking?“ Natasha pipes in, a frown etched onto her face. Bucky nods, thankful he wasn’t the only one to observe the intensity and hint of darkness in your eyes. He’s never been good at communicating, and he knows there’s no easy way to describe what he witnessed.
“What look? How do you even know what you saw? I think you two are reading too much into this. Obviously, the kid can handle herself.”
“I’ve seen it in the mirror too many times to not know it. She’s skilled. We all underestimated that, but we still don’t know anything about her. She’s teetering on the edge. I don’t want her to be the downfall of this team.”
Nat’s words hang heavy in the air. Light-hearted dinner discussion has always been the usual accompaniment to dinner. This was anything but that. The tension only heightens when they hear shifting outside the kitchen before the silence returns.

.
.
Tuesday morning leaves little to be desired when Bucky catches you after your briefing with Tony and Steve. Although you thought better of it, you agree to talk with him.
“I want to apologize.”
“For what?”
“Well, for everything. We didn’t necessarily give you the warmest welcome. It wasn’t right.” His uncomfortableness is palpable. His eyes shift constantly and never linger too long on your face.
Part of you wants to laugh while the other half wants to lash out. He doesn’t even seem sure of what he is apologizing for. You wonder if he would be here if he and the rest of the team had not realized you were standing outside the kitchen last night.
“Sure, I forgive you.”
“It doesn’t sound like you do though.”
“Look, my forgiveness is not dictated by whether you apologize or not. I’ve forgiven you for my own heart and mind. It doesn’t concern me whether or not you want to accept it. It’s not my responsibility to make you feel better about what you chose to do and say about me.”
With that, you head off for training, leaving a bewildered and guilt-ridden Bucky in your wake.
By that night, it is clear what is going on. If Natasha knocking on your door and asking to talk is any indication then you are now stuck in a revolving door of apologies.
“We just want to be sure you’re ready. Going on a mission alone can be intense. There’s no backup. No help…”
“Natasha, what do you want? We both know what goes on during missions, so what is it that you truly want to say? Are you worried I might betray you? I do have that look, right?”
She cringes as you throw her words back in her face, “I’m sorry. I’m just trying to protect the team. My family. I know the struggle, (Y/N). I can see it in your eyes.”
“I promise, I’m not going to be the downfall of your family. I won’t be the stain of negativity on this team. Seems like you all have that covered anyway.”
It’s true. For all the concerns about you being a negative influence, they seem to be the abrasive lesions, killing off high hopes and spirits.
Not waiting for her response, you continue. “I won’t lie. That darkness you see is real. It’s the shadow of shame that I carry for things I’ve done in the past. I’m not perfect. I’ve seen my share of struggle and pain. I’ve lost parts of who am I. You can question my integrity on anything else, but never underestimate my loyalty to making sure I protect and save lives. I’ve lost too many important people to let myself become the monster that takes them away from someone else. Maybe you would know that if you bothered to ask.”

Wednesday comes and goes with little interaction shared between you and the team. The several members you have talked with are still licking their emotional wounds and wallowing in their guilt. Whatever reprieve you hoped to have is gone by Thursday.
It seems like everyone has been stopping to check on you, hoping to ensure you are confident in the mission objectives. Not wanting to be tricked by their concern, you remind yourself the worry expressed is for the sake of the mission, not you, and you’re okay with that. You don’t need nor want their worried glances directed at your own well-being.
It’s late when Bruce calls you down to the lab, informing you he wants to show you the new adjustments he has made to your suit. His excitement is contagious, and by the end of him informing you about all the upgrades, you can’t help but smile softly.
“They truly are sorry, you know.”
You know what he is referring to but are unsure if you want to have this discussion now. You remain quiet, allowing him to continue.
“What they did and how how they did it was wrong. Hell, even their apologies left a lot to be desired. I’m not making any excuses for them but you are among a group of broken individuals trying to hold each other together. They can be ruthless when it comes to newness, but it’s all for the sake of protecting themselves from more heartbreak.”
Something about his words tugs at your heart and mind. For the first time, someone is expressing something besides contempt for you, and it’s strange but welcomed.
“I appreciate the comments, Bruce, but…”
“I know. It doesn’t change what happened. And I’m not asking you to forgive or forget. I just wanted you to know. And thank you. Thank you for protecting them. Thank you for risking your safety to save them.”
“You’re welcome. I’d do it again if the situation called for it.”
“I know you would.”
Bidding Bruce a good night, you return to your room with an unknown feeling gripping your heart. His genuine smile and appreciation are the last things on your mind as you turn in for the night.

As you make your way to the jet on Friday morning, the sun is just beginning to peek over the horizon. It’s chilly this morning, and you have to hold back the shivers that run along your spine. You tell yourself it’s just the temperature, but the pit of anxiety bubbling in your chest says otherwise. A voice calls out to you, urging you to wait before you can board.
“Take this.” Natasha tucks a medallion in the palm of your hand. It’s small, no larger than a quarter, but beautiful in its worn state. It takes the shape of the sun with its rays woven out of patterned metal.
“It’s helped guide me through tough times. I know you may not want it, but it would make me feel better knowing you have it with you when you walk through the darkness.” She hesitates to let go of your hand, and as much as you don’t want to admit it, you miss the warmth when she does. It’s the first time in months you have felt anything besides frigidly bitter words and emotions. And although it will take more than a simple but profound gesture and statements to make your heart warm again, it’s a good place to start.
“Stay safe and be careful. We’ll be waiting for you to come home, (Y/N).”
