I think that having a monster or entity in the backrooms actually enhances the horror if done correctly. It doesn't always take away from the eerieness of the rooms as I believe the idea that SOMETHING could be there is much scarier. If you do it in the way of having the protagonist believe that there is something there, then think that theres nothing there, just to then show that there IS is a much better payoff in my opinion. The backrooms is about the emptiness yes, but I do think that it can only be eerie for so long without the idea that there may be something else in there with you. I think that if you SPARINGLY have an entity's involvment it does enhance the story. Too many people think that the backrooms are just the roblox lobbies where you run around while Jerma chases you.
