Did an actual workout today... Its funny, I always feel like i say that when I post...
Honestly its because I just feel like I'm never exercising, especially since before the army I would spend about an hour and a half doing cardio + bodyweight strength training.
I'm working right now just to get back into the grove of working out. That hour really killed me. At the halfway point I almost quit, but instead I hiked up my headphones and found a new playlist on Spotify to listen to (they have hundreds of "workout" playlists).
This was an hour long intervals workout on the treadmill. I'm still trying to figuring out all the equipment in the gym, so right now it's just treadmill stuff, though next week (next time I can go to the gym here) I want to try the stationary bike. It didn't look too high-tech so hopefully I'll be able to figure it out 😅.
I said in my last post that food here sucks health-wise and that isn't necessarily true. It sucks veggie-wise. Yeah, they have vegan and vegetarian stuff but, and no offense, that stuff is gross. I'm sorry, there is good vegan and vegetarian stuff out there! I know there is! I eat it in my downtime! But the stuff on base is just... nasty. So... 🤷♀️ no luck there.
The veggies with the least amount of dressing on them tend to be the cucumbers and beets so that's what I'm trying to eat. They also sometimes have a really good quinoa and lentil salad but unfortunately.... it's drowned in vinegarette and it's waaay too sour for me. I tried putting it on some bread once and... nope, still gross.
That being said my protein intake fluctuates, sometimes I have more carbs sometimes less but they tend to have tuna one or twice a week (I should really watch my mercury intake now tho) and they always have cottage cheese (even if sometimes I don't get any because they ran out). They also try sometimes to have tachini and hummus so... we'll see.
They always have carbs though, and I've managed a pretty good rule (that I usually keep) about just one carb thing during meals, which is fine. Their rice is better than the potatoes anyway, so at least that is under control a little. And yeah. Hard boiled eggs. Lots of them. And yogurt when they have, which they usually don't.
Wow... this is a long update... I guess just have had a lot pent up since not doing these things daily.... what else....
Oh! I've also started tracking my (approx) food intake and water in my samsung health app. I also joined the January step-goal-competition-thing and I'm really enjoying it! I know it's only been two days but it's still fun. I tend to get at least 6000 steps a day in at work, so I thought why not try it. Obviously I'm not trying to win or get a high placement, but I just want to see if I can complete a month long challenge like that. Also, hopefully it will get me moving more on my days off, when I revert back into a couch potato.
Here's to work and excitment for what the new year will bring! 🎉🥂
