So it's that time when people start posting resolutions. After reading a certain email I was reminded of a few things regarding resolutions. I won't go into all of them but I definitely think that changing ONE thing is the way to go. I also don't think that I need to have some DRASTIC change that, in the end, is either improbable or completely unquantifiable like "eat better." Or something that is so cut and dry failure is almost guaranteed, like, "lose x pounds." Instead my resolution is something simple, and can effect everything in my life, but isn't drastic. My resolution is to believe. Not religiously, but overall. Believe in my abilities. Believe in those around me. Believe in my decisions. Believe in everything I do. While this will be difficult, I know I CAN do this. I often bounce between decisions about whether I should get this or that. From here on, I won't bounce, I'll make the decision. I'll believe that I will get it right, and if I don't, that I will learn something from the experience. So for 2015...just believe. Because even if this doesn't go as well as I'd like...I'll learn something from it. Happy New Years everyone.
My wife has just started powerlifting and yesterday was her first mock meet. She was extremely nervous but did very well. I kept telling her all morning how she was stronger than she realized and would own the weights. Her totals: Bench 120, Squat 205, Deadlift 302. Total:627. She has only been powerlifting for about 1-2 months. So proud of her because she is proof that we are strong and have potential but the only way to release the potential is to believe in it.
Perspective is what matters
So yesterday I finished the "heavy" lifting part of my training cycle. I was a little disappointed with my bench today but mainly because it was because I didn't eat enough (or basically anything) before going. But when I looked at the percentage of body weight I lifted, I can't say I'm all that disappointed any more. So instead of focusing on the actual weight, I'm going to focus on the percentage of body weight lifted, because when I look at that, it really puts everything in perspective. Bench: 83% for 2 Squat: 140% for 2 Deadlift: 140% for 3 Its all about perspective isn't it? All I know is....those numbers aren't going down anytime soon
As an EMT I am often called for people unable to walk or move. What is shocking is these calls are not the elderly like usual. It is becoming much more common for me to get called to young people unable to move following crossfit. I have never been a fan of crossfit. My training regimen is weights and conditioning under a very attentive coach who monitors everything you do and will immediately stop you when he senses the muscles have had enough. He even will stop you to allow for ATP recovery.I am NOT saying I have the greatest trainer in the world. But what I am saying is that while I do get sore, I have never experienced an inability to function over the days following my work out. Even when I feel the most sore, I can still lift and move a 300+lb patient with my partner like it was nothing. The article I posted is one that explains exactly what rhabdomytosis is and I hope that you at least reconsider your training regimen. If you enjoy crossfit and that is what keeps you in shape, that’s great and you should keep doing it, but do it with a head full of knowledge.
Never forget how far you have come. I always have a "fat picture" in my wallet just so when I feel like nothing is working, and I feel like quitting, I can remind my self what I was vs what I am now!
My wife has started powerlifting and will be going into competitions. I think this is going to be her in 40 years...and every other female powerlifter for that matter.
This is EXACTLY how I'm going to feel tomorrow
