I have said before how much I love Eat This, Not That!, they compile lots of great info about restaurant chains, they give you some of the better choices at these places (McDonalds, Red Lobster, Applebee's, Wendy's, etc) and help you to be informed about what is going in your mouth so that you can make (hopefully) a better and healthier decision. Here is their most recent list of the best and worst restaurants in America.
Interval Training Infographic
I am really digging Greatist, they have such good info in these cute infographics. Here is one I spotted on interval training - the benefits, different methods and some starting tips. Hope you like it :)

LOL.... I do this on a daily basis (smdh).
My Taste of Koko FitClub
A few weeks ago I was introduced to Koko FitClub by a Groupon that happened to get emailed to me (and a deal I unfortunately missed out on!). After I realized I missed my chance I signed up for a free session through their website and was offered a 2 week trail since I had missed the Groupon.
What makes Koko FitClub unique is it integration of computer technology with traditional strength training and cardio machines. Koko Fit's "Smart Trainer" their branded strength training machine looks like your run of the mill strength trainer from the gym until you notice the touch screen attachment. The screen is a small thing but it is the heart (or brain) of the Smart Trainer, this small attachment is what allows each person to have their own virtual personal trainer.
When you first arrive at Koko Fit, you are given a thumb drive which houses all your workouts that have been completed and upcoming ones to be completed depending on your program of choice. You are put through a strength test which is a series of five exercises that you repeat with varying weight to see what your current level of strength actual is. The machine itself is very simple to use and moving and/or attaching any pieces to it is a snap (literally!). Before each move the Smart Trainer calibrates your range of motion and time it takes for you to finish a complete rep of the move you are going to do. By doing this the machine helps create the perfect pace for you so that you get the most burn for your time. After completing your strength test you choose from a list of programs depending on what you are looking for (i.e, muscle building, fat loss, agility, etc.) and using the test as a base the machine customizes the program to fit you and to get progressively harder with each session. Best yet, each workout takes only 30 mins to complete so you aren't stuck at the gym for hours trying to figure out what to do.
Aside from the strength training aspect, there is a cardio component in the form of treadmill or elliptical machines. The cardio workouts are only 15 mins but trust me they are definitely challenging and will leave you sweating. There are a few programs to choose from depending on the intensity you are looking for (low, med and high). Each machine comes with an MP3 player with each program uploaded into it and you scroll through it just as you would if you are looking for a song and select the program you desire. Once you select the program you will hear the trainer (who is actually the owner of the Koko FitClub franchise) prompt you what to do from starting the machine, to which incline (or crossramp on the elliptical) to the speed or strides to aim for. I actually really enjoyed the cardio at Koko because while you are listening to the cues you are getting various tidbits and/or information on health and fitness topics which I found pretty neat.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Koko. I will admit however, that I did not feel completely challenged during my strength sessions and found myself upping the weights to actually tire my muscles out. Still, if you are looking for a way to have some progressive training and don't know where to start and want a quick but effective workout I highly recommend giving Koko a try.
Fat2Fit Radio is both a website and a podcast (see itunes) that has a bevy of health and fitness information. I found the podcast a few months back and have been hooked since. I have even went back and listened to their past episodes (they are currently on #139). What I really love about these guys (hosts Russ Turley & Jeff Ainslie) is their philosophy that in order to lose weight you should "eat like the thinner person you want to become". They heavily emphasize the importance of making fitness and healthy eating a lifestyle change. Give them a listen you have a chance, I highly recommend it.
Be an animal!
Basically, the less intense your workouts are the more time you’ll need to spend doing it. More intense, less time. For example 10 min of high intense circuit/crossfit workout will be somewhat relative to 50 min of low intensity yoga/spinning/elliptical/arc trainer/jogging. Simple.
How interesting! And pretty important to consider when [re]evaluating your goals.
complains of an asshole nerd: grumble grumble a graph is more suited for this information with intensity on the x axis and time on y axis
Love this graphic, definitely easy to follow and understand.
Truer words have never been written. Just Do It!
Love Love Love This!!
Keep a water bottle with you at all times and drink from it often. Water should always be your drink of choice. To kick things up every once in a while, try adding lemon, lime, cucumber, or a few berries to liven up the flavor without adding significant calories.
Look at exercise as a pleasure and a privilege, not a burden or chore. Think positively about the changes regular exercise will produce. Rather than obsessing about your next meal, get excited about your next workout!
Eat well-balanced meals and remember that excess calories, even if they’re from food that’s fat free and high in protein, will turn to excess weight. No matter what the latest fad diet says, extra calories equal extra weight!
Limit caffeine and exposure to even secondhand smoke.
Focus on short-term fitness goals with an emphasis on completing daily exercise.
Keep a daily log of what you’re actually eating. This includes every time you grab a handful of chips here or eat the crust of your kid’s sandwich there, and ALL of your snacking.
Enjoy an occasional (once a week) “unhealthy” treat, but never an unhealthy week or unhealthy vacation.
Enjoy contributing to the health of others by having a partner or friends to exercise with, as well as recruiting others who want to feel better and have more energy. Have a neighbor who’s sitting on the porch every morning when you walk by? Ask him or her to join you on your walk!
Avoid monotony by taking up new forms of exercising, or using things that keep you motivated and inspired, like new shoes or great music.
Subscribe to fitness magazines to keep focused on health as an overall way of life.
Invest in the right tools—good shoes, a portable MP3 player or iPod®, fitness equipment, a new series of tapes, etc.
Make it your goal to do some form of exercise 6 or 7 days a week. If some days you exercise once in the morning and once in the evening, even better! If you’re eating right, exercise will fuel your energy level!
Don’t compare your body to others’. Instead, work to be your personal best.
If your diet is unbalanced, take daily vitamin and mineral supplements for total health.
Work to take your exercise to new levels of intensity.
Create an exercise schedule the day before instead of leaving it to chance or waiting to “find” the time. If our last three Presidents of the United States can make time to work out every day, you can make time too!
Move beyond the boundaries of weight loss and into total fitness. Measure success by the way your clothes fit, not some number on a scale.
Stick with eating plans you can maintain indefinitely. Remember that no matter how hard you’re working out, if you’re consuming too many calories, you’ll never see the muscles that lie beneath layers of fatty tissue.
Get adequate amounts of sleep, but remember that people who exercise regularly fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly.
Limit alcohol intake to special occasions.
These tips are the best!
Sounds about right :)
AMEN to that!
I just happened to stumble upon this video series that are roughly about 2-3 mins in length each and show case different fitness classes around New York. I would so love to be the girl they send to try out these classes! How fun :) The above link is to their trial of Forza the samurai sword workout. My husband has this video at home (which I only barely tried out) and he loves it. I think I'd like to take a class. Check it out and if you have time look at the others in the series as well.
