Although truth be told, I’ve just spent like half an hour looking into Zionism and I’m incredibly confused

The actual definition seems alright to me, but every time I hear that someone is Zionist that person always seems to be very bigoted. Like it’s someone id never support, but then the definition of Zionism itself seems to be quite neutral??

But then there’s also neo-Zionism which just seems to be standard ‘I’m from culture A and you aren’t and therefore I’m better than you’ fare, which I’d obviously never agree with but I’ve literally only just now seen that term for the first time

Op-as a non Jew to another non Jew, keep looking into Zionism. You will find that other than the idea of Jewish people being able to live in their homeland and have self determination there, that there are many different ideas that stem from 'how do we go about doing this?'

There are SO MANY kinds of Zionism. I can guarantee you can find a type that you would find agreeable. There are Zionists that want self determination for both Jews and Palestinians for example.

So understand that if you consider Zionism as a whole-without actually being able to name the types that are bad-you are actively shutting out people that are on your side and well....not listening to the community it involves, which is also very much an issue.

Now, Kahanists? Those can fuck right off-they are everything you think Zionism is and there's zero different kinds of interpretation there. They are an example of a type of Zionist that is fucking awful.

If I may add, as someone who is converting and has been immersed in the Jewish community for 2 years. I don't think I've ever personally met a Kahanist, as far as I know. And most people I know are Zionists and definitely not bigoted or thinking they're superior. Quite the opposite, a lot of them not only oppose the current government but also advocate for the rights of Palestinians.

Because you can do both. You can be a Zionist and still want Palestinians to have rights and a state and for the war to end. These aren't mutually exclusive and I'm not sure why people think they are.

If you'd like to know more about the nuance of Zionism, just get more involved with the Jewish community. You'll meet great people, and knowing people who are different than yours will enrich your life greatly!

If you are a Christian that wants to host a Passover seder this year:

1) Don’t. It’s appropriative and gross.

2) Still don’t.

3) Jesus never participated in the type of seder that Jews have today. He lived (if he existed as described in your Christian holy books) during the Second Temple Era of Judaism, when worship was Temple-focused and ritual sacrifice was a key facet of the holiday. The modern seder takes most of its traditions from rabbinic Judaism, which was not the Judaism of Jesus.

4) Don’t do it. Don’t. No, there is no good reason for you to do it.

5) Given the Christian antisemitic violence traditionally inflicted on the Jews during this time of year (the lead up to Easter), it is EXTRA awful for Christians to try and appropriate our traditions related to Passover.

6) Don’t. Pesach is our holiday, and our religion is a semi-closed practice. Don’t appropriate our stuff. Don’t make our stuff about Jesus.

7) There are no exceptions to the rule that Christians should not host Passover seders.

I feel like not enough people bring up the Jewish part of falsettos. I've seen some people completely ignore the fact that they're Jewish. I've even seen someone say that them being Jewish has nothing to do with the story so it's ok to hc the characters as being Christian (this happens with whizzer mainly). Which is wrong, them Jewish, is the whole second act. It's also really important to have queer Jewish representation. I feel like a lot of these takes tend to be on Tiktok for some reason. But idk that's just a few things I've seen.

listened to falsettos on shuffle for the past two days and realized that Jason's view on love changed based off of his "father figure"

Marvin would tell him love was the most beautiful thing, but to Jason they were games. Marvin had always played "games" with Trina and Whizzer through the end of the marriage. Marvin was probably the one who introduced Jason to chess in the first place, so this may have been his way of finding "love" within his father, though the games.

With Mendel, his love for Trina had truly been just lust. His questions for Marvin in "Marvin at the Psychologist" about Trina are sexual, and even says himself that they should "probably go unanswered." in "A Marriage Proposal" Mendel only talks about how perfect and beautiful Trina is, not even saying anything about her her personality. Jason even makes sure that what Mendel wants for his mother is "everything a woman would desire," so as Mendel replaces the place of a father at home, Jason's view on love changes. going from the games, which were his version of love, it turns into girls, Jason going as far as admitting he wants girls who he lusts for and not the girls he "should want," probably similar to Mendel's past since he had never married. this, plus Jason being around 12/13 in act 2 probably contributed to this change in the view of love.

as someone who was born into Judaism, I always love hearing the stories of Jewish converts. They're always so passionate about their Judaism and it makes me smile inside and out. it takes so much heart and love for our culture to undertake such a long and challenging journey and see it through to its completion. it's truly beautiful.

I frequently mourn the fact that so little is commonly known about the smaller details of traditional Jewish life. And I don't mean diaspora Jewish life, it's amazing how much we know and have preserved of various diaspora community traditions.

I mean ancient Judean lifestyles. And yes, the Torah outlines a lot of it, which is amazing. But I don't want to just know that Judean women wore jewelry or nose rings or etc, I want to be able to know what our traditional Jewish jewelry looked like. Smaller specifics instead of the broad strokes.

We can know what religious garb looked like, and even the general gist of day to day clothing. But I want to know specifically what colors people would dye their clothes for their personal tastes, the specific embroidery designs that were worn.

I want to know how traditional Judean women wore their hair, both how they wore their head coverings (knot styles, accessories for the coverings, etc) and how unmarried women would adorn their heads.

I want to know what traditional Judean makeup looked like, what toys the children played with, so so so many aspects of ancient Jewish life that I have been able to find nothing about.

Maybe, of course, I just don't know enough history. But I've tried googling these things and I have not ever found a satisfactory answer.

I wish to know what traditional, pre-occupation, pre-exile Jewish life was like.
