“I’ve seen more rain here in a couple of months than I’d ever seen in the decades I’d spent in the Mojave,” she swirled her drink as she peaked out from under the collapsed bridge.

“It’s irrational but I always half-expect to be struck by lightning,” just as she uttered those words thunder rolled in the distance just seconds before a flash of green lighting sliced through the blackened sky.

“I’ve heard the Mojave doesn’t get much water, no.” Cade peered around the edge of the bridge, reflexively making sure things were safe. He smiled when he faced his partner, forced on him by the sudden weather. “It’s not irrational. It happens, sometimes, especially in the flatter parts of the Commonwealth.” Then he chuckled. “But, to be more comforting: it’s very unlikely.”

“I didn’t say that, Valerian.” Ada’s smile was rather forced. “But they tried to take over the DC area only a decade ago. You won’t find much positive sentiment towards the Enclave in this region.”

“I… think I can see why.” He certainly just had the worst luck when it came to factions and wanting to take over the world, didn’t he?

“It’s -” She couldn’t exactly compare them to the Legion without showing too much. “It’s very complicated.” She shrugged elegantly. “They don’t interfere much, not anymore. You likely won’t meet an Enclave individual - and those you might meet tend to keep their history to themselves.” The last statement was tinged with wry humor.

         “Oh i’ve seen childs’. But you ain’t never know whosa’ synth nowadays. So, maybe maybe. i’ve seena’ child synth.”

        “Baby synths would be kinda’ useless. They ain’t good for nothin’ but sittin round. Bad investment.”

“-- I suppose there’s no way of knowing.” Cade shrugged elegantly. “And you’re right, why would the Institute want child synths? Although since we know nothing about the Institute, maybe they build child synths and grow them the old-fashioned way. There’s no way to know.”

So your robot character has no emotions programmed

What does that mean?

Hatred is an emotion. No hatred allowed.

Same with anger. “No emotions” also means “no negative emotions.”

They need a goal programmed in so that they don’t just sit around doing nothing.

It’s possible to have “don’t kill people” programmed and also have no emotions programmed.

Longing is an emotion.

“Emotionally repressed” and “zero emotions” are very different things. The only way they could feel things would be if they got reprogrammed.

     “Raiders wont notice if I cut this pyschobuff with a bit of watered down turpentine,                       will they?”

“It’s doubtful. But if they do find out, are you willing to face the consequences?”

“ Hey hon, mind if I sit with you for a while?”

Phoibe stopped beside the stranger at the bar giving them a gentle smile as she spoke in her soft calm voice. It wasn’t often she got to sit down at a bar to actually relax and she to much of a social creature to sit alone for the evening specially when someone was already seated near by.

“Not at all.” Ada’s voice showed her surprise - she so rarely saw other blondes, although out East it was certainly more common. “My husband will be returning shortly, but if that doesn’t bother you, it certainly won’t bother us.” The husband lie slipped past her lips easily; they certainly passed as a married couple. “My name is Ada.”

“ Phoibe, a pleasure to meet you Ada” she introduced herself as she sat down beside the woman at the bar. “ A husband huh? how long have you two been together?” It was nice to see that sort of thing still around, heaven knew Phoibe would never be tying the knot. She rest her arms up against the the counter turning to the side to face Ada a bit.

“ Are you two locals?”

“Five years or so, I believe.” Ada laughed lightly. “We aren’t local to anywhere, unfortunately. Both of us have wanderlust.”

The man who walked over to join them was tall, with brown hair and a military gait. Still, his smile was polite and genuine. Under the table, where Phoibe would almost-certainly miss it, Ada touched the ring finger of her left hand gently. Cade would know what that meant, even though his eyes gave nothing away when he greeted his ‘wife’.

“Hello, darling. If I’d known we’d had company I would’ve grabbed another drink.” He held out a hand to the newcomer. “My name is Cade, and I see you’ve met my wife. You are...?”
