It was more personal preference and having pride in his craft above all else. But he could not deny that hearing the locals praise his work wasn’t satisfying. It’d probably sit wrong with a few other shop keepers he knew however. Not that he cared for that matter.

❝ You’re new to the area then? ❞                 He asked flipping open his book to check his inventory. 

❝ I haven’t been here too long myself. What kind of axe were you hoping to purchase? If I don’t have it in stock if you’d be willing to wait it’d take me a day or two to customize one.❞

“Huh? Oh.”

Gerome sat up fully, looking up at the male in front of him. “Excuse me, I’ve been out here all night. It’s an emergency.” The state of how important said emergency was, though, was quite debatable; he had finally gotten enough gold to buy a killer axe.

❝ I’m listening. But first if you wouldn’t mind. . . ❞       He gestured to the door and held up his keys, indicating that the stranger needed to move in order for him to get to the door. It was rare for him to get customers this early unless he’d advertised a sale through the merchants. Opening shop, he with held a yawn and strode inside to get his log books and accounting documents so he could input whatever this guy was gonna buy. Returning swiftly from the back room he set down his stuff and leaned across the counter. 

      ❝ So what brings you in at this ungodly hour. ❞

He was very open about the fact that he was -- in no way -- a morning person.

Although why that would be the basis for someone wanting to braid it was beyond his foresight. Either way, he bore with it. She was one of the many he fought alongside so there was no harm in the action -- since she was an ally.  He was born into the Flame Tribe with his Gods favor. Personally he’d always been told his locks appeared as if they harbored the element of fire. Something he’d taken to heart since his mother first told him the tales of their deities origin’s and their sacred mountain.

❝ Besides I hardly believe my enemies will be smiling at me as I lunge at them,❞ he added as he sheathed his blade and crossed his arms over his chest. 

     ❝ What’s the meaning of this? What’s so funny? ❞  

He might have huffed. But then again he never huffed.

      The camp stables was hardly an appropriate place to rest yet it was a well kept secret that Rinkah’s son had a peculiar. . . fondness for cats. And there were plenty of those abound there. So, in a heap of kittens he’d chosen to pass out unaware his vice was about to become public knowledge to one of their party that chose, at that moment, to happen upon him mid-nap.

    One of the fluffier feline creatures had clambered atop him, biting at his ear for attention. The small pincers nipping at his sensitive skin caused him to groan and wave it off, rolling on to his side.

  ❝ Oii,❞ he muttered groggily to the mischievous kit,  ❝ some of us are trying to rest here. Go bug one of your other brothers.❞

It seemed as though the other boy was quite fond of his mother. Something he could not help but empathize with and understand. Family was a special bond and those that were good to their kin were people Ryuu could respect. His gold hues narrowed taking in those innocent, frightened lavender ones and allowed that his afternoon project could wait. . . but only since his liege seemed so genuinely earnest and this opportunity to speak with him at length might prove interesting. Though his people had aligned themselves with Hoshido he rarely spent time with it’s royals to know enough about their views. And Sakura’s son was as much a mystery to him as his other comrades were.

            ❝ Let me see your weapon,❞                         He caved, holding out a hand. 

 ❝ I can strengthen it as you wish. If you wish to learn and help you follow my instructions and are careful when working with certain tools.❞

His left eyebrow twitched unconsciously. Peace and quiet, he supposed, couldn’t have lasted forever. 

❝ Shiro, ❞ he said calmly with only a hint of an edge as his folded hands gripped one another in a vice like hold as that eyebrow of his twitched again in otherwise comedic fashion.

           ❝ Is that a scratch I see on a blade I just ... fixed ... yesterday. ❞

  He muttered but the weapon smith barely acknowledged that individual which strayed into the camp’s Dawn armory as he hammered the blade, sending hot sparks every which way trying to refine the strength of the katana. A bead of sweat ran down his face as he begrudgingly snapped his sharp gaze up to take in the form of the guest and/or customer.

The prince tilted his head nervously. Slender fingers wrapped around his small frame as he examined the other. He’d wanted to adjust a yumi as a gift for his mother but he wasn’t quite sure how to do it. So, seeing someone in the armory was welcomed.

❝ Not particularly I guess, ❞           he allowed, feeling a twinge of remorse for snapping the way he had. Business was business. So long as he had work he should consider himself lucky.

Normally he didn’t half mind the mercenary work and missions they occasionally took but they were out in the forest trying to find some village that might not even be left to save for all they knew.
