hey y'all. this past christmas eve i got engaged to my love down in his hometown New Orleans, LA. i want to thank our good friend Jen Menard for capturing sweet moments between us during this rainy romantic winter.
DIY Valentine Throwback!
This project is an oldie-but-goodie. Made last year, but still a great DIY idea for this go around if you're looking for just the right man gift...
This weathered wooden photo collage is easy to make and is perfect for your beau. It’s a sweet, subtle way to display your favorite memories.

Step 1: You can use any piece of scrap wood. The lighter the wood, the more the pictures will appear. For a more faded/ subtle effect, I used a medium shade of wood.
You will also need laser printed photos* (sized to fit your liking), Golden Clear Tar Gel Medium, paint brush and a sponge.
*Don’t forget to reflect your images before printing, as the reverse will appear when transferred.
Once you have arranged your photos, apply a medium coat of gel medium to the face of the photo. Place on wood (picture down) and smooth out the surface. Let it dry (approx. 1 hr.)
Step 2: Take a damp sponge and gently rub the back of the photo to remove the paper. Image will remain on wood in a thin layer.
Step 3: I took a lighter and slightly burned the edges of the wood. You can also use sandpaper to achieve a distressed look. I used leather chord to hang it on the wall, but any wall mounting method will work.

It's always fun to explore new spots in your area. I've lived in the same place my whole life but there is still so much more to find and see. There really is beauty everywhere, all you have to do is stop and notice. Duke Farms is a former estate that has recently been transformed into a public sanctuary. It feels like a little piece of New Jersey history that's been thoughtfully preserved in time. I'm so happy to know a place like this exists near me. I highly recommend a visit if you can. Here's a few snapshots from our trip...

If you're a crazy pinner like us, you've probably noticed that gold is EVERYWHERE right now. It's so effing trendy and I'm not even sorry. I've been pining (and pinning, ha) for this serendipitous occurrence for quite some time. I probably love gold an unhealthy amount. I think it's simply glorious. It's totally cool if you're not into it, you just might not care for this post and also we can never be friends. Either way, brace yourself for an epic display.

With fall looming (or shall I say the autumnal equinox for all my word nerds), it's time to break out some of our oldie-but-goodie recipes. I must admit I've been hesitant to embrace summer's end, but the truth is late summer/early fall is my absolute FAVORITE time of year. I really think it deserves its own special name (sfall? smautumn? I'm working on it). Such a sweet spot in the seasons. Ok, ok--enough about my weird obsession with weather patterns, let's bring on the sweet/spicy/pumpkiny goodness...

The most graphically beautiful, sensory stimulating thing you will see today. SolarBeat was created by the uber-cool Luke Twyman of Whitevinyl Design (that's a lot of links for one sentence, but trust me, they are ALL worth it). His simple interactive audio/visuals will leave you spell bound. They make me feel both tremendous and tiny at the same time. I basically like anything that confuses and delights me.

fancy up your fan
I think we can all agree that ceiling fans are pretty much universally unattractive. So if you have one & you feel like you're stuck with it... HAVE NO FEAR! Here's a quick little cosmetic fix. *hint hint* BEADS!
Just bead it (sorry--I can't help myself). Most fans have hanging chains on them, so make sure to use beads that can fit on whatever you've got pre-existing. If not, you can recreate them with wire or string.
This DIY is pretty self-explanatory, it's basically an excuse to play and get your hands all covered in paint! I purchased this mixed box of wooden beads at Michael's for about $5. It already had great colors and textures, but I personally think adding a little gold is ALWAYS a plus.
Remember, imperfection adds character & personality. You can't find these anywhere else! Embrace your mistakes.
Let 'em dry for a few minutes and then you're ready to assemble.
Pop the chains back on your fan, et voila! A one-of-a-kind decoration.

Cheers to great friends, especially when they look this dashing at 7am on the start of our road trip to Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

Approximately 6 hours into our drive, we stopped at the first sighting of sand. All smiles here on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, VA.
From accidentally color-coordinated outfits to a sea of rainbow cottages, this little town is a feast for the eyes.
Speaking of feasts, we can't forget to mention the FOOD. When we weren't too busy grilling up a storm (every other night) we explored some beach side noshes, including but not limited to: shrimp, wings, & homemade ice cream!
How many times in your life do you get to spend a night under the stars and then top it off with a perfect sunrise? One word = BLESSED.
To our friends, thanks for making this trip one for the books. We LOVE you guys. Can't wait for what's next!
