Something that has always stuck out to me about Armored Core 6 is that there isn't a "Bad ending" per se. each of them have their own ups and downs. take the Liberation ending. While commonly seen as the "Good ending" there is enough uncertainty about the future that it is really difficult to truly call it such. the corporations are still present, Coral release is still a looming threat, and ultimately the status quo remains unchanged. on the plus side, you have revitalized the liberation effort and are now theoretically aiding the RLF, and you stopped the planet from burning. Then take the FOR ending. while commonly seen as the "bad ending" and understandably so given the genocide you committed, it is still a viable option. You give the corporations a very real and needed slap in the face, coral release is no longer a threat, and neither is Coral experimentation, the technology that could create a monster like you can never rise again, not to mention that you also then go on to serve as an almost mythological figure, "The monster who burned the stars", and become a warning in the history books as to what happens when power and greed are left unchecked.
guys you should play submachine it's really good look you can play it for free right here. oooooooh you wanna play it sooooo bad.
and those were all uploaded by the creator himself btw so you don't need to feel bad about not paying for legacy if you can't/don't want to he literally wants you to have a free version available.
Why you're missing out on Submachine and why you should get into it right now
Did finishing Blue Prince leave a hole in your heart? Does the eroticism of the machine call to you? Do you like wandering around digital abandoned locations for hours while learning what happened to those that used to occupy them?
Look no further than Submachine.
It's a point and click puzzle game series with some INSANELY cool lore and artwork. LIKE SERIOUSLY JUST LOOK AT IT I& will be sprinkling some of it throughout this post for eye candy because the game is GORGEOUS
The basic premise is you play as a researcher descending into a strange underground cavern, and you have to learn: how the technology all around you works, what happened to the people that came before you, and what the FUCK a Submachine even IS.
The most fun part of the game is legit just THEORIZING. The game leaves you with A LOT of unanswered questions, but it also answers just enough of them to let you piece together the general worldbuilding and course of events that occurred before you. When I& say it could easily be the next FNAF in terms of just how much theorizing there is to do I& mean it, and you get plenty of time to ponder how they buried the Kent Lighthouse or what the Fifth Layer of reality is hiding as you do your fifth circle around the locations you've explored already trying to just figure out where the hell to use that karma stabilizer or whatever. Don't worry about that, it's part of the fun.
If literally any part of this sounds even vaguely interesting to you, you should seriously play any of the games right now, because they're literally FREE FLASH GAMES. Fully playable in your browser on any flash games archive/website of your preference. There are ten mainline games in total, numbered accordingly, plus four spin-offs: Submachine FLF, Submachine 0, Submachine Ancient Adventure and Submachine: Universe.
If you have a spare coin to toss in Mateusz's direction, Submachine: Legacy is by far the best experience new players can get - it's just a remastered collection of all of all the games in one, so if you don't have the spare 25$ you won't be missing out on too much, but the quality of life changes, the redrawn artwork, a more coherent lore experience and most importantly a whole new meta puzzle to solve all make Legacy well worth getting in my& eyes. Shattered Quadrant, while technically a remake of Submachine: Universe, is basically a whole new game entry to the series with just how much was changed.
Okay okay but what was it that you mentioned about hetpeak in the banner of the post...?
GLAD YOU ASKED! That's Murtaugh and Elizabeth! :D They are kind of a big deal.
This will completely spoil the main plot for you, but if you'd like an explanation with citations and quotes on why I& love them so much, HERE'S A VERY ABRIDGED SUMMARY OF THE WHOLE GAME BELOW CUT!
So it all started when this guy named Murtaugh lost his arm during his trip to the Kent Waterfall, right? Except he's not too upset about this whole ordeal because in place of his usual arm he discovers he has an invisible "karma arm" that lets him teleport around if he focuses
Except for every time he teleports, he SHATTERS THE FABRIC OF REALITY ITSELF, SLOWLY DESTROYING IT.
People are obviously not happy about that, and he tries to move away into a lighthouse far away from everyone, but continues his experiments with the portals while living there, so STILL SHATTERING REALITY just in secret now.
So they decide to bury the lighthouse
With him still inside
Yes like bury under dirt and such
BUT THAT DOESN'T STOP HIM AND HE ESCAPES ANYWAY BECAUSE HE CAN FUCKING TELEPORT OUT OF THERE
With this ability to teleport, he decides to make his mission be exploring the Subnet - the network of locations that one can teleport to using the teleportation device called Submachine
He even puts together a whole team of researchers to explore together with him, which INCLUDES YOU, except for he's basically sending people to die because it's incredibly easy to get lost in the Subnet
OKAY. OKAY SO THAT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT DIED BECAUSE OF MURTAUGH. LIKE HE KILLED A LOT OF PEOPLE. WHICH IS VERY REASSURING TO KNOW AS SOMEONE WORKING FOR HIM.
Enter Elizabeth
Before this you only really heard of her from Murtaugh's letters to her and all of the survivors telling you to go find her if you wanna live
She worked with Murtaugh and they were very close before the whole teleportation thing happened, at which she was rightfully horrified and angry, so she made it her mission to undo all the damage he has done: save what people are still alive, fix the fabric of reality, and stop Murtaugh no matter what it takes.
When Murtaugh, as expected, leaves you to die, you escape and find yourself in the Winter Palace which is where Elizabeth has temporarily docked her ship
INSTANTLY TONS OF DIRECT PARALLELS BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM
But Elizabeth isn't there.
Oh.
OhGodsSheTriedToFuckingShootHim.jpeg
And this is where I& can start letting the quotes and screenshots speak for themselves because WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEEEEAAAAAAAN WHY ARE THEY LIKE THISSSSSS
So yeah. I& only included the most major of the plot points in this summary, so trust me& when I& say that there is A LOT more for you to learn if you actually play the game for yourself. I& basically didn't touch the worldbuilding itself at all, and there is no lore summary that will ever replace the feeling of actually exploring these lonely, terrifying locations for yourself.
Please play Submachine. I& need more people to go crazy about this game series with. Please.
