“Mmn, I understand.” It’d be nice if they could pop back and forth, but… too bad. “Wooooow. What did you need it for?” Tails looks pretty young, and though Emmet isn’t an expert on foxes (much less anthropomorphic ones), it’s difficult to figure out what a seeming-preteen would need with a hyperfast plane.

Though, other regions let kids start their journey when they’re eleven instead of Unova’s sixteen, so hey. Maybe Tails is like that, just a real daring kid. Very cool. 

“Yeah! I hope so too! Quantum physics is real hard. So I hope it all works out! Be careful with what you’re building, kay?” Quantum physics is the weird, abstract-ish one, right? He isn’t sure, it’s been a while since high school, but if it’s a strange thing like that he may as well issue a warning.

“To go on adventures with my best friend, Sonic!” Going fast was the name of the game after all -- couldn’t do much if he couldn’t keep up with Sonic. The plane was good for the both of them.

On the matter of the engine -- “It’s very complex, but very interesting. It’s helping me since I’m building an atomic engine. Unfortunately, I can’t use the chaos emeralds as my power source, sooo...”

Tails laughs. A little unfortunate, yeah. But he can make do.

“I’ve been making a lot of friends and learning a lot thanks to Sonic. He’s really great, but I’ve been able to do a lot of things on my own. I’m growing up even more, now that I’m here!”

The fox’s answer leaves a small frown on Amy’s face. She’d really hoped that her hero would be in the city, it doesn’t feel the same knowing that there’s no way for her to track him down like old times. Maybe he’s too busy eating chili dogs to get his butt over here… Hmph, that hedgehog really has no consideration for others, does he?

But that’s not what’s important right now! She can’t believe she’s being so rude; one of her friends is here, and that’s what really matters at the moment. 

With a tiny shake of her head, her frown disappears and is replaced with a large smile.

“At least we have each other, right?” She scoops Tails up into a hug, “we can still have tons of fun, with or without Sonic! How long have you been here anyways?”

The disappointment is expected -- Tails can’t help but try to shake that off anyhow. When Amy smiles at him, though, a wave of relief washes over. Things haven’t changed too much after all.

Sonic aside, Amy and Tails are still good friends. They’ve been through enough together, after all. He’s surprised at the hug -- letting out a little bit of a squeak -- but quickly moves to gently hug back.

“Yeah, for sure! And we can definitely have tons of fun without Sonic!” 

He beams back at the pink hedgehog, “There’s a lot of things to do around here. I’ve been here for a few weeks now! Did you just get here?”

The two tailed fox can’t help but let out a small chuckle, as he adds -- a little bit quieter. “I’m so glad you’re here.”

It’s going to be a lot easier to completely adjust with Amy around.

The new, unfamiliar city sure is a spectacle to the small girl. Its beautiful streets, buildings, and colorful citizens make Amy feel right at home. Unfortunately, none of her friends seem to have been taken along with her – it honestly makes the atmosphere a little lonely. She really wishes Cream or Big were here…

As she daydreams about going on various dates at the hotspots in the city to calm her nerves, she catches sight of a familiar pair of twin tails out of the corner of her eye. There aren’t many people who fit that description, so it would have to be..!

“Tails, is that you!?” she gasps, running towards the other and almost tripping along the way. “Does that mean Sonic is here too?”

The fox and the heroic hedgehog were practically inseparable, so that must be the case. It’s like her prayers have been answered!

Well, he’s only wandering around the city again. Tails is finally getting used to this life, little by little. He’s finally getting a little more accustomed to life like this -- even if it’s a little lonely, without Sonic and the others.

So of course he’s really surprised to see the pink hedgehog in town, bolting towards him or not.

“Amy--?!” The surprise is obvious, and the question is left unanswered at first. He’s actually really excited to see her and beams before he realizes what she’d actually asked.

“It’s me, yeah, but--!” His expression drops a little and he chuckles nervously. 

“He’s not here, at least as far as I’m aware. It was getting kind of lonely though, so I’m glad you showed up!” Sort of optimistic, but -- “Maybe with the both of us around, Sonic will come here after all!”

For a brief moment, she thinks she’s found a kwami— she might stick to that assumption if it wasn’t for his size (her next guess might be akuma, except she hasn’t seen any here yet and she’d like to keep things that way). She’s sure this boy isn’t the oddest thing she’s seen (in the scope of living with a tiny god of creation), but it’s perhaps not the most normal thing either; it’s a reminder of how vastly different this place is from Paris, a fact that serves as both comforting and uneasing to her. It’s with that she realizes that she’s been staring for far longer than is polite; clearing her throat as she fiddles with the container in her hands. “Excuse me? I was wondering if you might want something to eat? My parents are bakers, so I have a habit of making too many.” A white lie— she made extra for Tikki, but she had plenty to spare.

She had been staring -- it was a little uncomfortable, really, after he noticed -- but it wasn’t too long after, before she spoke, at least. He’d probably been staring back -- He chuckled a little bit, looking up at her.

“I’d love some! Thank you!” A nod, as he smiled happily, before asking-- “You like to bake?”

He wouldn’t say he’s the best at it -- Amy was a lot better, especially when it came to sweets. But he likes cooking, so maybe he can relate a little bit. At least it’s good for conversation.

The positive about being in a new world was that he could return to his roots of being an adventure, exploring what this new…Home, of his, had to offer. A lot of the places were very futuristic – perhaps modern would be a better term – in comparison to what would be found in Hydaelyn. Nothing here seemed up to the standards of Azys Lla’s technology at least.

Back to the journey, J’atoh’s sense of smell had led him towards something vaguely familiar. He hadn’t smelt this before but he recognised the smell of pastry and fresh ingredients.     Magnolia’s Pizzeria. What was a Pizzeria? A type of Culinary’s guild?  Unsure, he pushed the door open and had his eyes fixated on the menu.

“…Does this place accept Gil? I want to try something from here.”

Casting his gaze down, he noticed someone behind him. A small fox kit, taking a step aside, he bowed in an apologetic matter.     “Sorry, I didn’t mean to stand in your way.”

Pizza -- The fox was definitely hungry. He’d trotted over here with the thought of simply having a quick bite to eat. But -- he couldn’t see the menu until the taller stepped out of the way. The apology made it feel alright, though. Tails smiled up at him.

“It’s okay!” He peered up higher to see -- thinking it over, though, he probably wouldn’t be able to eat a full pizza by himself. He usually shared those kinds of things with a full group of friends, after all. He looked over at the other, who had been clearly wondering about something, and decided to ask a question.

“Hey, mister -- Do you want to split a pizza?”

“It’s super cool! Our subway is specially designed, too. To withstand fun and exciting pokemon battles. Ingo and I made it safe enough to handle trainers giving their all. So yup! We know a whole bunch. Running trains. And updating them. And repairing, ‘cos it’s easier to fix broken stuff ourselves.” After the umpteenth time someone thought it’d be a good idea to use earthquake in a contained train car, or let loose a fire blast that threatened to warp metal… well, Emmet just got tired of contracting mechanics for the easy stuff. Innovation’s the Boss’s job too, since their unique experiences with damage-proofing the Battle Subway give them perspectives and needs that normal, non-insane mechanics don’t always think of. (Emmet’s main concern with any mechanical venture is ‘can I make it impervious to a couple thousand volts of electricity, just in case’.)

“I don’t know much about planes. But I have a friend who’s a pilot! She’s young. But really great at flying. She let me join her once.” Miss Skyla was indeed very cool… her gym also was a wonderful adventure, the time Emmet visited. “Planes are cool. And so are mechanics! So you must be a super cool kid.”

The compliment is genuine, Emmet’s always happy to meet people with interesting hobbies (no matter how old they are, talking with someone about something they like is always fun). “Have you made anything while you’ve been here? I want to see, if you have!”

“I haven’t finished what I’ve been making here, yet. Most of my stuff is back home. Like the Tornado, I miss the old thing...” Though it wasn’t originally Tails’s, he’d put a lot of work into it and it had since become as such. He was a bit nostalgic for it. “It was my bi-plane back home. I did a lot of work on that thing to make it more durable and less susceptible to brute force; but mostly to make it run at incredibly high speeds.”

He nods. “... But I started working on something here, too. It’s missing a lot of parts, though. I’m starting with the engine -- I picked up a book on Quantum physics and it’s actually been quite helpful with the task!”

Beaming -- “I hope I’ll have something to show you soon enough. It would be fun to share with you!”

A bright smile lit up the hedgehog’s face as she saw her friend fly over to her, giving a light wave to him in return.

“Hi Tails!” She replied, her voice filled with enthusiasm for the exciting plans they had today. “That’s right! I figured we would work on a recipe for chocolate chip cookies since I have the ingredients for it at my house. It’s a basic recipe to follow, but it’s a good way to start when learning how to bake them for the first time. Not to mention they also taste amazing when done just right! How does that sound?”

“I’m really excited!!”

He’s glad Amy’s picked out a recipe to follow, he wouldn’t even know where to start. And if being both accurate and precise can help them taste even better, it doesn’t take a genius to know that that’s the goal.

"That sounds perfect!” He nodded, gently floating to the ground, his tails spinning slowly and then coming to a stop. “Are we ready, then?"

Ah, there she was! Tails had been waiting around a while, and after seeing the pink hedgehog, excitedly hopped up and flew over to her. Well, they’d made plans today, after all.

“Amy! Hi!!” He said with a smile, waving a hand. “You’re going to teach me how to make really good cookies today, right?”

... That was the plan, anyway.

“This place is pretty tricky to navigate if you don’t know where you’re going.  The weather did turn pretty quick, it was pure luck that I thought to bring my umbrella.”  Sylvia gave him a small smile.  “It’s nice to meet you Tails, my name is Sylvia.”  She frowned a bit as the fox boy jumped at the noise.  It didn’t seem like the storm planned on letting up anytime soon.

“Listen, my apartment is just around the corner.  Why don’t we stop there and get you dried off.  Maybe by the time we’re done the storm will be passing us over and then I can help walk you home.”

“Are your parents here?  I’m sure they’d like a phone call to see where you’re at.”  Although a thought did cross her mind; in what world would a parent let a kid this little walk around by himself in a strange place.  Adults were getting lost, let alone kids!  “Either way, I have some towels I can warm up and a heater blanket that can get you warm and dry.  Then I’ll help you get home; I’m pretty confident in my ability to get around at this point.”

She titled her head.  “Does that sound good?”

“Mm, it’s nice to meet you, miss Sylvia...!” Tails nodded his head sheepishly, and looked with a smiling but worried expression. He can’t help but sniffle a little bit, too. “Okay. Thank you for helping me.”

The question, however, had him taken aback a little bit. “My parents?”

He titled his head to the side. He couldn’t say he recalled his mom and dad -- it had just been that long. Were they good people? Bad people? Even alive? He didn’t really know. He couldn’t remember.

“No, I’m alone. I haven’t seen my parents in a really long time.” Nervous chuckle. “I usually live with um... Sonic. But he isn’t around this time.”

“An anthropomorphic fox… huh!” Emmet has heard all of those words and knows what they mean just fine individually, but when applied to something that is actually living and talking to him… it takes a little bit more processing time for him to accept. “That’s neat! Nice to meet you, Tails.” Emmet accepts the offered hand, shaking it merrily. (So tiny! A tiny fox.)

“Yup! In charge of running and maintaining the Nimbasa Subway! With the depot agents and my brother, ‘course. I don’t do everything on my own. But I do some stuff.” He’s actually pretty technologically adept; both the Subway and Gym in Nimbasa are known for hosting the best technology to run them, and Emmet as often as a mechanic can be found fixing up his trains. “Is that the kind of thing you like, too?”

“The Nimbasa Subway... that’s really cool!” Tails couldn’t help but grin at the other, excited to talk tech. Someone who’s somewhere near an expert--? In any case.

“Mm! Although, I’m more into planes than subway trains. I like working with all types of machinery though, it’s a big passion of mine!” He clutched his hand to his chest in a balled fist. His tails seemed to bob back and forth happily too, he’d clearly become gleeful.

“Both you and your brother most know a lot about trains, then!”

Shiki has see everything at this point. A magus, an undead hospital patient, a high school student with telekinesis powers, the list goes on and on. But a talking fox, this is definitely a new one for her. This should be the last thing she should be surprised over. 

“…I’m not hallucinating right?” But just to be on the safe side.

“Um, no?” What a strange question. Tails answers it with a confusion peeking from his voice, tilting his head to look at the girl.

He’s definitely different from the others around here, but it seems to be a mishmash of a place anyway. How is he any weirder than anyone else?

... He supposes its because he’s an anthropomorphic fox with two tails, but still.

“Unless you’re seeing me as something other than a two-tailed fox. Then you might be.”

Emmet bends down to see the new visitor at eye level, hands on bent knees and ever-present grin decorating his face. “Oh, are you a pokemon? I didn’t think there were any here.” He doesn’t quite look like one, much less any pokemon that Emmet knows. But Emmet isn’t sure what else he should ask (the guy looks bright enough to give an answer if asked, so there’s that). “I am Emmet! I’m a subway boss. I got here recently.”

“A pokemon?” The two-tailed fox shook his head, curious as to what one was, but unfamiliar with the word. The man was friendly, at least, so he didn’t feel threatened or anything.

“No, I’m an anthropomorphic fox! I go by Tails!” He extended his hand to the taller -- “It’s nice to meet you, Emmet. A subway boss... So do you work on trains, then?”

Hey, what can he say -- Tails enjoys that type of tech, after all. Though bi-planes would have to be his preferred method of transport.
