“Perfect if we keep on schedule we should be able to unload the cargo with enough time to restock, refuel and return to Port Breeze before nightfall. Now that you mention it, catch.” Gran smiled pulling a metal thermos from the back of his belt throwing it towards the helmsman.
Rackam grins, turning from the helm to catch the Thermos neatly. “Aw, thanks! Ya never let me down, captain.” Score! And he was only teasing about expecting the coffee. Rackam leans over and claps Gran’s shoulder with a laugh before he opens the thermos and returns to the helm. “Aren’t you a catch. You wanna head back to Port Breeze so quickly? What’s wrong with takin’ a little port vacation for an afternoon while we dock? The others will probably find a change of docks fun to explore and we don’t need money so badly to require shoving two cargo jaunts in a day.”

“That….That doesn’t take away how kind your words are. Even if I don’t think I live up to them entirely.”
“Please. Everything I said is completely accurate. And I’ve met plenty of people at this point, so I know what I’m talking about when it comes to evaluating admirability. What’s got you feelin’ down, Katalina?”
@murgleys / now hes embarrassed but only a little
“Oi, oi, I just value my crew like anybody would!”
@koudoni // cont
Sure, they are being pretty snippy, but that doesn’t mean Rackam’s particularly scared off. He deals with almost every genre of treatment from the crew, so their snark is enough to earn a grumble and Rackam giving them a hard time.
“I mean, with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ would be how. Pretty straightforward.” If he could tell for himself, he wouldn’t be asking! They’re in the genre of ‘new acquaintance’ where he can’t tell if they dislike him in particular or are just mean because that’s how they treat everyone. Only one of those would actually cause Rackam to give up on befriending them.
while he is capable of many things, the maintenance of an airship is definitely not one of them, however, he does have a good teacher. that said with his current lack of expertise he finds himself doing some simple chores instead. as he is doing so he gazes at the other in the corner of his eyes. the archangel can see rackam’s fondness as the man works on the grandchypher ‘’ you seem very fond of airships, ‘’ he says, giving his observations a voice, ‘’ how come? ‘’
@granpilot || starter call
Rackam can most often be found repairing the Grandcypher when he’s not seen piloting it, and this afternoon is no different. Being docked at port is no reason Rackam would give himself any time off.
“What do you mean ‘seem’? I am fond of them.” He tosses a quick grin in Lucifer’s direction. “I like mechanics, the ability to put things together and have ‘em work. And airships to me always seemed like they just... give sailors freedom. Not anybody can just get up and travel between islands, so if you’ve got an airship you’re able to do just about anything. Meant a lot to me when I was a kid in the outskirts who thought I could get famous. And you can’t fly alone, so if you have a working airship you have control over your own destiny and a crew of friends to travel with you. No downsides, right?” Perhaps he’s waxed a little poetic, but what else can be expected of him with that kind of question.

Sun peeking over the horizon the natural alarm clock for the captain of the Grandcypher to deliver the morning wake up call. Making his way onto the deck of the ship Gran hurried up to the helmsman already at work piloting. With coffee in hand he’d made his friends drink the usual way he liked it same routine every morning. “How are the skies looking today? Are we still on track for that delivery Siero wanted?”
“Did’ja bring me any coffee?” He’s just teasing. Rackam already had breakfast, hauling himself out of bed before the sun rose, but he can still give Gran a hard time. It’s been a nice morning, easy flight as the rest of the crew slowly rises to usual activity. “Everything’s clear. Winds are lookin’ to change soon so I’m expecting us to catch a tailwind. We’ll probably get to port a fair bit ahead of time.”
"Is it alright if I sit in here and read?" He gives a tilt of his head, tracing the title on the cover of his book with absent fingers (he knows it won't change that he's rereading Jane Eyre, but it's rhythmic). "It's quieter in here, and it'll keep you from being - well, alone."
It’s surprisingly quiet in Rackam’s open garage, only the faint sound of music from the radio shoved against the back wall and the intermittent clinking of tools. Rackam looks up from the car engine he’s elbow-deep in at the sound of a voice, having chalked the noise of the door opening as something not particularly worth checking on. He straightens up and nods when he sees Xan.
“Oh, yeah, sure. There’s a couch over there on the near wall you can hang out on as long as ya want.” Rackam gestures over towards it. The couch is a somewhat battered-looking piece of furniture that looks rather out of place in the garage (if it wasn’t known that Rackam spends almost all his time in the garage and often doesn’t feel like going upstairs to sleep), but it’s also extremely comfortable once someone sits down on it.
“It gets kinda loud in the main shop, I getcha.” There’s much more of a bustle there, the proper hubbub of a mechanic’s shop run out of a building where the entire upper floor is just Rackam’s own family’s house -- a lot of back and forth. But at least the garage is a bit more separated and reliably more peaceful, since it’s just Rackam in there. Xan’s welcome to hang out as long as he wishes. “I should be done with the work in a few hours.”
“I kinda miss Noa... I wonder if he’ll come back sometime, he’d be a great guy to have on the Grandcypher. Though, can you even tie down primals like that...?” Don’t mind him, he’s just muttering to himself after thinking about Golonzo for a while.
storyteller-prince.
He was right; her crewmates were very capable of doing the errand so she was happy to have him around. Not noticing the teasing right away, she shook her head. “Not at all. I’d love to have your company.” She really needed a moment to herself to be around her crew for purposes that weren’t fighting or saving the world. (Okay, she was slightly joking about that last thought.)
“Heheh. Alright! So, whatcha up to here? And, did you notice, I got a new weathervane for the Cypher. Traditionally, it’s s’posed to bring luck to the crew, so you gotta tell me if it works and ya find any cool treasures while you’re out.” Well, it’s just a silly supersition and Rackam knows that better than anyone.. but nothing’s wrong with giving the Grandcypher something cute and useful in the name of tradition. He can’t help but chatter a little.
i drew this instead of doing literally anything writing-wise because i pulled aoidos and he is the chaotic stupid representation i need want and deserve. i love aoidos and cant draw instruments. dont @ me.

“Rackam? Why are you here?” Djeeta didn’t min the company but she thought he went with everyone else to do some errands. Realizing what she said, she quickly added, “I thought you left as well is why I asked.”
“Nah, just felt like hanging around. The others can do errands just fine without me.” Rackam grins at her. The implication that warranted Djeeta’s addendum fails to cross Rackam’s mind, but he does take the chance to add a bit of a teasing lilt to his voice. “Besides, maybe I wanted to hang out with my captain a little. ‘Less you’re busy?” She’s always out running around somewhere, when Rackam’s often hanging out with the ship. Understandable, there’s a lotta crew and a lot to do, but that doesn’t mean Rackam will turn down a chance to hang out when it’s open to him.

“Rackam-san!!”
“Don’t worry, kid! No matter how many primal beasts this loser’s got, our captain always comes out on top. And I’m on your side, too.” Do your best, team.
“There’s nothing admirable about me.”

This sort of tone isn’t expected at all, even if Katalina has been looking a little introspective. She broke the silence with this question, and Rackam turns to her with his jaw dropped, sincerely stunned, his cigarette nearly dropping from his lips. “Eh?! Katalina, what are you talking about?” How could she say something like this! Rackam regathers himself, all puffed-up with the need to go one the defensive for his friends -- even if he’s defending them against themselves! No one can talk badly about Katalina.
“You gotta be kidding me. I’d think you’re just fishing, but you don’t seem the type for that. Don’t tell me you really think there’s nothing admirable about you.” Rackam turns to face her properly, all prepared to lecture -- he’s not much of the lecturing type, but he can at least ramble about the things he knows.
“You’re a fantastic knight! In terms of both fighting skill and the morals that all the knights in shining armour have. You can always be relied on for just about anything, and you care so much about the rest of the crew. Especially Lyria and Io! You’re great with those kids. You can pull through just about any fight, no matter how many enemies there are or what the situation is, and have better swordsmanship than just about anybody I’ve ever seen. Seriously! You’re a great person. Jeeez, sometimes I’m even kinda jealous of how cool you are, too. So what’s all this ‘nothing admirable’ stuff mean?” He ends with a loud, somewhat petulant huff, settling his hands to his hips. Well, Katalina?
WHOOPS sorry i ditched this blog for a while because fgo ate my whole brain,

Ah, their words cut as a knife... good thing Rackam isn’t particularly affected by the critiques of semi-strangers. He’d already told then he knew what he was doing! It’s their loss if they choose not to believe in him.
Nonetheless, he looks up at them once more. Rackam’s sitting cross-legged with his toolbox next to him and this one leaning over, and he takes the opportunity to gesture at them with a screwdriver, waggling it in some odd admonition. “Oi, oi, you could at least put some effort into lying! You’re gonna hurt my feelings at this rate. Have some faith, will ya?”
They aren’t going to hurt his feelings, but he will pull an over-dramatic frown at them if they carry on in this manner. He can be obnoxious in retaliation.
But there is first a problem to be solved, and Rackam resumes his ministrations, taking the screwdriver back to its job of removing paneling. “I told ya, I’m the best mechanic you’re gonna find. I’ll have this thing fixed and running in no time.” Just you watch, ye of little faith.
