welcome to my bone collecting blog!

i am new to taking this seriously but have a few small pieces of bones that i’ve collected over the years including deer teeth and coyote vertebrae.

i’ve been drawn to this as a way to cope with my intense distress around animal death and also learning to value life after years of being suicidal. engaging with death so directly has brought me more peace than i realized it would so i’m diving deeper!

i’ve also had a major fascination with vultures as an animal my entire life. multiple times in my childhood up in to my late teens i have been circled by vultures and i’ve always felt connected to their role in the ecosystem so the fact that it’s called vulture culture just sweetens the pot for me

Mole Skeleton *not complete or in anatomical order!

The mole is all cleaned up and packed away now! Moles have some interesting skeletal features, check out their funky humeri and scapulae!

Posted a lot of my finds recently but not any of my main collection for a while. One of my skull cabinets. Various monkeys, hyenas, big cats, bears, sea lions and others. Most of these are antique, zoo deaths and ex museum pieces and have paperwork where necessary.

Don't trust collectors who say that nasal turbinates don't matter.

The inside of an animal’s nasal cavity tells us lots of information about the environment it lived in and the family it belongs to. Aggressive treatments such as boiling damage them: anyone who uses those methods to “clean” bones is not a true enthusiast.
