Anar and Anor are the most common Quenya and Sindarin names for the sun, both deriving from nar meaning fire
Hŷr is an older Sindarin word for the sun. The later Sindarin word úr meaning fire derived from this.
On my moon words post I mentioned Ránuringwi, an archaic Quenya word for moon and sun. This word places rán, the root for moon first. But there is also an older word, ahúrasilqui meaning sun and moon, from ahúra, an older word for sun.
Ceuranar in Quenya means new sun after (winter) solstice, from anar and ceura meaning renewed
Glaw means sunshine in Sindarin, derived from law meaning to flourish green or grow
Auglas is an older Sindarin word for bright sunshine. It is derived from augla meaning a sunbeam and further derived from the root awa meaning burn, parched, yellow or warm
Árë means sunlight or sun warmth in Quenya. It is derived from as meaning warmth. Arma meaning ray of sunlight derives from árë.
Aurfaiglim is an archaic or poetic Sindarin word meaning the sun at noon. Authmeg is the general word for noon in early Sindarin.
Note: the last word, aurfaglim, is to me most notable for being related to the sobriquet for Aerin in earlier writings. Aerin and Arien have several parallels and the Edain and the Hadorians in particular are associated with the sun. My word of the day on this word goes into this more so I won’t ramble on but it’s something I just had to share because I love Aerin so much.
