was admittedly having a bit of a moment where i was like "awh man should i stop drawing my hc designs i dont want to keep having to filter through racist and mean comments or trying to explain the difference between blackwashing and whitewashing only to get lectured like im a 2 year old" but the more i think about it. Knowing me. i will keep drawing what i want. because fuck those guys why would i want to make them happy when theyre promoting such cruel and frankly racist behavior. furthermore truly the best feeling in the world is when someone comments on ur post and says that they feel rlly seen. I love it. i love that ppl can see themselves in my work and my designs. i just find myself getting nervous sometimes esp when i catch people debating in my comments or ppl are sent death threats over this whole thing

i think ultimately majority of fandom spaces particularly with anime do have this huge problem with colorism + racism & generally justifying rlly racist behavior. many lightskinned ppl particularly just cant stand to have a fictional character they like drawn w/ a darker skin tone. even making them slightly tan is problematic in their eyes. . do you guys know how many comments i get about tengen's design when his skin tone barely . BARELY was changed

"hey not to be rude but as a lightskinned person im offended you darkened this character's skintone" ... and to that i argue: lightskinned ppl will be FINE we're already all over the damn place...

"ur erasing them being asian when u darken their skintones" since when are all asian people paper white. What about ppl who are mixed. "well its japan-" hantengu & the clones are dark skinned btw. sure it may not be common but that doesnt mean it doesnt happen and dark skinned asians & black people, etc etc, dont exist in japan

how many dark skinned ppl do you see in anime. why is it such a horrible concept for a dark skinned person to be in an anime. "its not realistic" DUDE THEYRE FIGHTING DEMONS AND SHIFTING THEIR ORGANS TO AVOID DYING. ITS ANIME AND FICTION ITS NOT MEANT TO BE REALISTIC!!!!!! SOME OF THEM HAVE PURPLE EYES. ill get YOU

furthermore not to be that guy but why do you guys always complain about skin tones but when its stuff like hair color or eye color you dont gaf. Eyebrow raise. Fascinating. i am going to conduct a study. i am going to shake you around.

there are a ton of reasons why ppl feel this way and promote colorism or whatever, but in my opinion i dont think any of that or what they grew up with excuses behavior in which ur actively being prejudice and discriminatory let alone harassing ppl just for how they look

sorry for the giant rant post.. i try to keep to myself and im really just here to post art but it does get to a point i see all the issues at play and i have to speak up abt it. to reiterate: the fandom has a long history of colorism specifically, and by promoting this behavior and justifying making ignorant and racist comments, such as comments on slavery or characters being cooked in an oven too long, you are only making this prejudice stronger and more and more violent

guys... i have bad news anime fans........... asians are not paper white....... diversity exists.... dark skin tones exist... there is a variety of ppl and culture in the world and that should be celebrated and cherished not criticized and hated. absolutely insnae. please be kind and welcoming and love each other as ye are.
