Florence was in the middle of eating breakfast when she heard the news. It was too much to process at first. She couldn’t believe it. Edgar had just been arguing with her in charms club barely a week ago. It was only the other day she saw Emilia in the common room. They couldn’t be dead. It had to be a mistake, or a cruel joke. She was waiting for the retraction, but it wasn’t coming. Once it fully sunk in her mind went to their siblings. She could only imagine what they were going through.

Her things were left scattered across the Gryffindor table as she stood up and walked over to one of her Hufflepuff friends. She was trembling and her voice was edged with concern as she pleaded with them to take her into their common room. It wasn’t much of a request though as she dragged them from breakfast to the entrance.

Even from down the stairs she could hear him and it broke her heart. She knew nothing she said or did could make this better, but that he shouldn’t be alone. A shattering sound followed by another scream gave her pause before knocking on his door. “Oscar. It’s Florence. Let me in.”
