Welcome, class, to this basic crash-course in Meyer vampire biology.

I made this for my family's choose-your-own-topic presentation evening over lockdown, so it's not perfect, but it was so fun to do!

There's an accompanying google doc here that's much more in-depth and comprehensive; I made it as a prompt so that I didn't forget to mention any of the crazy canon vamp biology shit that goes on in this series.

It's so interesting to me how the lore is fashioned solely as a prop to the love story, and therefore is often innovative for the genre without perhaps setting out to be so, and often also touches on certain preconceptions of beauty/perfection the author may have without self-analysis. Would love to read anyone's thoughts on that if they're willing to share!

twilight is like okay yeah. the love you need is right where you are. it’s right where you grew up and nursed skinned knees and threw rocks across an open stream. this is the love that feeds you, that makes you dinner when you can’t reach the stove. you do not want this love. you never did. you don’t deserve it, you think. because you can’t possibly stomach it. can’t possibly be expected to heal when all you have ever known is patching your mother’s wounds. you’d rather have the love that cuts you open. you’d rather swallow glass than water. you have no want to be full. you want to be bleeding. you do not deserve this. you have two hearts. you still die in the end, with neither, of course. that’s how the story goes. the girl who really didn’t ever have a choice to begin with.
