YOU HAVE ENTERED
RADICAL SATURDAY
Today’s Friday, though.
Five of my fav 80s bands!
Tears for fears (obv!) Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith... they're my number one. Their eclectic music (which goes to synth rock, dark wave, and even picking rock and jazz atmospheres) helped me a lot especially the last year, with their lyrics, which are incredibly relatable to my personal life, The Hurting mostly. I've spent so many evenings watching their music videos, live concerts and interview. I listened to Songs from the big chair thousand of times riding my bike. Now they're just like "old friends of mine", in some way. Roland's voice makes my heart melt everytime, and Curt's bassist is catchy & awesome. That Head over heels structure, with intro - song - outro (using Broken) is something I got addicted to very quickly. I can't explain all the goosebumps they made me feel! And all the positive vibes of The seeds of love... makes me desire to be in the 80s even more! Even if I knew them since I was born, I got into their stuff just recently, and I'm glad I did!
Kajagoogoo a band I'm getting passionate to even more recently. I knew them since forever too, and I always liked Limahl as a singer. But I discovered their (sadly, only few) works just during these days, but it's enough to be considered as one of my fav 80's band. I've listened obsessively their White Feathers album, and also Island, the one without Limahl. Their sound is catchy and the bassist, Nick Beggs, is one of the best I've ever heard. (I was a bassist too, during teenage years) I wish they did some more music with those funky/electro synth vibes before splitting up.
Level 42 I guess I have a sort of preference for bands with a heavily prominent bass sounds. Infact, Mark King, the main frontman of Level 42, is another incredible bass player. Their music makes me think about the space, the Universe, not just because of the name of the band, which is a clear reference to a famous sci-fi novel (Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy) but also because of the melodies, which are funky and otherwordly at the same time. Star Child is a good example of what kind of vibes they give to the listener. I listen to them everytime I want to dream about space life and extraterrestial. It's weird, yes. But I like it!
Lotus Eaters Sadly, these two british guys weren't too much well-known during 80's. But their music is truly great. Romantic, melancholic, just like a late summer evening. Their melodies, with fine guitars and that blurry Peter Coyle's voice can fill their songs with a permeanting nostalgic feeling. Take a listen to their most famous song "You don't need someone new". Trust me, is worth.
Talk Talk Not just their hits are great, timeless and listened to nowadays, but most of all their discography is just amazing. There's no song of Talk Talk which is meaningless or stupid. Mark Hollis was a genius, ironic and clever. He made Talk Talk's music full of deep lyrics with also sophisticated and refined sonds, arrangements and melodies. "The party's over" Is my favorite work of this incredible band, the synth here is prominent but never boring or repetitive. It truly rides the 80's vibes and atmosphere! No need to mention the greatness of their second album "It's my life", which contains also the most well-knowed hits of the band.
Beastie Boys on Rage - Australia
I recently recorded the Rage special which Beastie Boys hosted in 2007. Here's part 1 and the rest will be up as soon as I get a chance to edit it.
Reblogging for those of you who haven't seen Rage! It's my absolute favourite music program :)
