#Joy. “The world didn’t give you your joy, and the world can’t take it away.” ~ Anthony Ray Hinton - this quote resonates big time with me. I began studying #yoga at a difficult time in my life. I was about to lose my job, I had already lost my faith, and I was rapidly losing touch with myself. I felt overwhelmed, sad and super confused. I needed answers and that led me to sign up for a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training. I wanted to teach yoga, but I also really wanted to learn more about myself - how to make myself feel happy again, but I couldn’t find any good answers. No one seemed to know what the key to being happy is. Then I read this -“Happy” is a word used to describe a feeling, it is not something you can “be”, so you can feel happy but you can’t “be” it, and then I read it again, and again. As I wrapped my head around that concept, it occurred to me that maybe the problem isn’t that we are all feeling unhappy, but that we are inadvertently making our emotions part of who we are by constantly saying things like - “I’m angry” “ I’m sad” No. You aren’t. They are emotions, not things you can be, and they are just passing through, so let ‘em. #2018 took several beautiful souls from my world but I will not let it steal my joy. I may not feel it all the time, but I know it will pass through again, and when it does it will rise up from within me spontaneously and wildly just like it always does.
