Okay, it’s time to give a proper update on the Cielcin doll now that the Shadows Upon Time release gala has come and gone. There are still some finishing touches I need to make, but I’ve had to remind myself that perfect is the enemy of done, and I needed to have something to bring to the gala. With that said, here’s some pictures of the doll from my trip to the gala.

When I get some more time, I’ll also be posting some of my progress pictures of the doll and explanations of how I went about making it.

Been a good while since I posted an art project here. I’ve been working on this doll based on the Cielcin from The Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio. It’s going to be a little chibi version of Syriani Dorayaica from the cover of Kingdoms of Death. That’s actually the book cover that got me into the series and the book I finished rereading a few days ago!

As for next steps on this doll, I’m currently working on the new and repatterned head. The doll itself has been beheaded and im getting ready to sew on the hair to the new head. Next will be the eyes, which I’ve got some nice 40mm black safety eyes, and then embroidering the nose and mouth. After that, I’ve gotta finally decide if I want to shove some wire into the doll to make it poseable.

Made a little dragon friend using the pattern made by @staticstray

It’s completely hand sewn using some fleece fabric I already had on hand. Rather annoyingly, it was really difficult to trace the pattern onto the fabric because my fabric pencil did not want to work on it. Still got it done though.

I really debated whether or not I should add horns to it because it looks so silly without them. Here’s a picture with the horns hidden :)

Space bug update time. All leggies are complete and I am running out of space on the bed to display them! Only the body and head remain (perhaps I should finally figure out the pattern for the head).

The legs as promised. These are only the lower leg segments with their knee joints. Next step is the upper leg segments.

Something funny to me is that they kind of look like socks with the knee joint section added in. The temptation to make a fursuit only grows stronger as I continue to work on this.

They did come out a bit rounder and larger than expected, but we love a chubby beast here! Anyway, to help with the mental image of them, just know that where the knee joint will be sits a couple inches above my knee when the leg is stood upright. This is going to be a massive beast!!

I suppose I outta give an update on the space bug stuffed animal project. Two feet are done (except for the ankle joints) and the other four need to get stuffed with beads and have their sides sewn up.

I’m slightly dreading figuring out the leg patterns after how long I got stuck with the feet ones. It’s not that the pattern was necessarily that difficult, but more that switching from sewing for so long to making the pattern was oddly difficult for my brain. Let’s hope figuring out the legs is easier.

Anyway, I just need to add the ankle joint and this foot will be done. Alas, I might not have time for that today. After it’s done tho, I get to make 5 more of them. Absolutely loving how overly large it. Very excited for when the whole creature will be complete!

All toes have now been stuffed with weighted plastic beads. I’m very happy with how they feel when squished. Next step is to start making the feet

After around a year of wanting to make life sized space bug stuffed animal, I have finally gotten started. 2 toes down, 16 to go (and everything else of course). Very happy with how they’re turning out! Also, I now want some fursuit gloves with these. Gotta finish the stuffed animal first tho
