Hawks sensed their arrival before the alarm went off. His feathers stood on end, vibrating with a cacophony of harsh breaths and panicked heartbeats. The air became dense with anticipation, so thick Hawks couldn’t breathe properly.

He pushed down the sense of vertigo that enveloped him as he rushed towards the door. He swung it open, and his gaze fell on the single pair of eyes meeting his. “Where is officer Nakamura?” He demanded, brow furrowing.

“Left ten minutes ago for the shift change, sir,” said officer Takahashi.

Fuck.

Hawks let his eyes swivel from one end of the corridor to the other, scanning for threats. His wings gave a nervous jerk, now able to pick up on even more tumbling footsteps and screams. The sounds of a battle permeated the air, echoing with a request for help Hawks wasn’t sure he could act on.

They’re here, he thought. He didn’t know why he was so sure of it. Dabi’s location had been kept classified. Yet, the moment Hawks had felt the first glass door shatter, he’d known it in his bones. The League was here. No low level villain would’ve gone as far as attacking in broad daylight, in the heart of the city, just to make a statement. Just to prove they could. But Shigaraki Tomura was no ordinary villain.

He was sending a message, Hawks realized. They’d gotten one of his men, and Shigaraki was retaliating tenfolds. Getting Dabi back was only secondary faced with the chance to strike the heart of hero society’s almighty pride, right when it was at its shakiest. Showing the vulnerability of hero society so soon after Endeavor’s demise. Dabi had fired the first shot. The league was merely here to cash in their win.
