“May I give you a suggestion?” he said to the person that seemed about to enter the restaurant. “I wouldn’t go there if I were you. They take hours to bring your order, it’s ridiculously expensive and not really worth it.” He had reviewed the restaurant just a few days ago. “But at the end, it’s up to you.”

“Hey, thanks friend.” Flynn smiled and nodded. “I was just intersted to see what they sold, but I mean... I’d be happy with chicken tenders honestly. Not all that fancy stuff. Probably out of my budget anyway. How’d you know about it being like that, you know... not good for what you pay?”

With bags in both of her arms, Elise had been in and out of stores for some shop therapy. Deciding to give her father’s credit card a bit of a work out, Elise had bought almost everything she set her eyes on. About to enter one of the stores, she had dropped her bag and groaned. Elise decided that she didn’t want to pick up the bag as it would result in her needing to drop her other bags, she looked around until she found someone whose back was turned to her. “Hey you, could you possibly get my bag?”

Flynn had already bent to pick up the bag when he heard her voice. “Yeah, of course. No problem.” With a smile, he helped put the handles back into her hand. “Looks like you had a lot on your shopping list. Maybe you should make a trip to the car before you keep going. Otherwise you’re justgoing to have to grow another arm to hold more.”

❝I’ve got red velvet cookies with a cream cheese frosting filling, a classic favorite; fresh carrot cake, also with a cream cheese frosting, as you can tell it’s a recurring theme.❞ Isabelle chatted on as she arranged each dessert on the platters set in front of her, her brown orbs focussing intently on making everything look perfect. The bakery had been a little slow at the moment, giving her a moment to breathe and really tend to the small details, while still interacting with her customers.

“The cookies sound really good. Cream cheese frosting is my favorite too, so I guess that works out in my favor then.” Flynn smiled and looked through the case to see all the detailed pastries and cakes before him. He couldn’t imagine being so detailed and delicate to make something so sweet.

“I’ll take on one of those red velvet cookies, and do you have a lemon one? My daughter loves lemon.”

“Uuurg..!” Exclaiming in a very frustrated, intense sound, the brunette struggled with the bottle of champagne. The cork wouldn’t come out and it wasn’t like she could ask for the opener after she stole the drink. It wasn’t like Mary needed to be stealing - although she had been in quite a financial affliction - yet the woman couldn’t help it, her impulses and desire for trouble were stronger than her. “Why can’t I open this, tell me whyyy,” she wined in a strangely Northern English accent, automatically returning to her origins when disturbingly intoxicated, her doe eyes actually watering up slightly. An emotional wreck, the British could barely hold her feelings. “Why. Won’t. You. Open!” With one final push, the cork flew across the bar in strong pressure, hitting the back of someone’s neck. “Bloody shite, mate! Are you alright?! I’ll share the alcohol, I promise!”

A cork popping him the back of the neck startled Flynn, and he whipped around quickly. He saw a young woman frantically apologizing, so he shrugged it off and smiled. “No big deal. Good aim, though. I don’t need champagne.”

When Asher heard the news about the maze being open, he had to admit he felt slightly excited about it, there had been years since he was in one, the speaker said to pick the closest person to him, so why not picking a complete stranger so far all the people he had met in this city was great and usually didn’t had that double intention of getting something from you. He looked at a man and thought to himself what the hell, he didn’t mind having a new friend and if the guy was a prick what better way to find out about it in a maze “Hey man, I know this sounds weird cause I’m not used to asking strangers, but well I have no one here and I’m new in the city so I was wondering if you would like to team up and win this thing.” 

Flynn didn’t have many friends to speak of, most of them were his coworkers who were currently with their spouses or significant others, and so when the man beside him asked to team up for the maze, he figured it’d be fun. “Yeah, man. That’d be cool. Name’s Flynn.” He extended his hand for him to shake and smiled wide. “I didn’t come with anyone really, so I’m down.”

“And why would it matter to you if I was doing anything bad? Maybe I’m an awful, terrible person.” She smiled. Of course, it wasn’t true. At least, she liked to believe she wasn’t awful. “Oh, it’s never going to be my store. My sister is crazy and thinks I should like, settle down and buy a building and make it into this amazing store.” Jamie rambled. “And I say that’s a waste of my time and money. Well, not a waste but like…” She stopped and looked at him, realizing he probably didn’t care. “Sorry, yeah. Korean barbecue nachos? That sounds interesting, at best. It sounds more appealing than the one food truck that has a lot of corn. I’m just glad the mazes are closed. Something about feeling lost freaks me the fuck out.”

“Arresting you isn’t my problem. I don’t have arrest powers. I just put out the fires. But I have friends who do that part, and I mean... It’s my civic duty to keep things safe for everyone. So if you’re telling me you’re an awful, terrible person, I might have to investigate to see if you already broke in and are just leaving now.” Flynn paused a moment before smiling. “Nah, just kidding.” He nodded as she mentioned the nachos. “Yeah, haven’t had it before. So it sounds interesting enough. I mean, I like corn too, but when am I going to have the chance for those nachos again?”

“You know what they say about assuming? Makes an ass out of you… and me.” She gave a soft smile, slipping her phone into her back pocket. “My sister wanted me to look at this place to try and maybe turn it into a boutique of some sort.” Jamie looked back at it - it really was perfect but she wouldn’t be staying in Melbourne long enough to make it something. “I can’t possibly break into my future store, can I?” She joked, shrugging a shoulder. “Believe me. Do I look like someone who could break in a place? I’d break in and there’d be nothing for me.”

“I guess it does. There’s just a big thing happening downtown, and so being a good neighbor... Just had to make sure you weren’t doing anything that would have been bad.” Flynn shook his head and managed a small grin. “Well, I guess not. It’s not your store until I see an offer on the building then, though,” he teased. “Well, I guess I’ll leave you to it then. I kind of wanted to try some Korean barbecue nachos, or whatever that one food truck has.”

“Oh, it’s perfect. I can’t believe you found this place. Man, I wish I could break in or something.” She said a little too loudly, looking around to see if anyone heard her. One man in particular stood out. Covering the microphone of her phone, she widened her eyes. “I wasn’t being serious!” Jamie walked closer to him, getting one last glance at the building. “I have to go, babe. Love you.” She quickly stated, hanging up the line with her little sister. “I wasn’t going to break in, I swear.”

Flynn noticed a woman on her phone by one of the older houses, and he couldn’t help himself but overhear her conversation. Being a firefighter, he didn’t have jurisdiction over shit. But that didn’t stop him from feeling the need to intervene. Of course, before he could ask her any questions, she assured him that her intentions were not criminal. “Well, I hate to be the one to say it... but you kind of, well... You did say you were going to break in, and so I mean, I assumed.”

“Have you ever looked like a panda when you cry? That’s never good.” She replied, shaking her head slowly. “Maybe you’ll get lucky and she won’t ever ask for a playstation. I didn’t - but video games aren’t my thing. If nothing else, I always seem to die in about five minutes.” 

“I mean, I have had a black eye before. Does that count? But I didn’t cry. Because in my head, I knew that’d hurt. Tears and a black eye? Headache of the century.” Flynn laughed. “She likes them. I let her play with an old Super Nintendo, and she’s amazing at Mario. Strategy games are her favorite. I have to help her read them sometimes, but at least she’s having fun.”

“I can be a party animal, thank you very much. I just have to be a responsible parent at the same time. Not quite as fun.” He sighed. “We sure did. She drank enough sparkling grape juice to almost throw up.”

I was just forced to spend time with my family, awful stuff.” 

“Crying is good. You know what you’re missing then.” Flynn smiled. “Family stuff is always hard, especially as we get older. I’m cherishing the years the slip and slide still works. Just wait until she wants a PlayStation.”

“But what if you celebrate too much and your kid hates it when they are older?” Damon challenged him. “I mean always do the Santa Clause thing because that’s a must or else you’re just a shit parent if you don’t.” he noted. “So before your kid you did you celebrate? Almost sounds like child equals mandatory holiday celebrations.”

“Nah, not really. I didn’t really do much celebrating as a kid or really after. My family isn’t close, and we just ignore each other now. So it’s fun now to be doing it all with her.”

“Depends. I still want to keep these charming good looks, so maybe the gray will make me look like a cute old senile man? I have hopes.” He smiled. “You didn’t have a slip and slide for Christmas? By god, woman. What did you do?”

Yeah I did. A lot of fun. I spent the night celebrating with my family on the beach then caught up with an old friend after.”

“I don’t know. I think she’d still have fun with me if she’s little. If she’s older, she’ll want to run off and party. I don’t do the party scene anymore. Too old, too father-ish.” Flynn smiled. “That’s fun. And finding old friends is always best.”

“They aren’t. But yours are much more fashionable than mine. I just look like I want to be Kanye West. I don’t think I have the attitude though.”
