i think there's a brilliant and underappreciated layer of fluttercord that proximity to discord probably, ironically, makes fluttershy feel more in control of her surroundings, because he is literally in control of everything that could make her feel unsafe.

she's a pony prone to severe anxiety, one who hates the unexpected, hates jumpscares, all that. and discord loves the unexpected! but i think fluttershy is drawn to him because he's in complete control of the unexpected, which means when she's with him, she vaguely knows what she's getting into, and as a result, she finds it a lot more fun. she never gets a chance to explore the fun side of chaos when she's too overwhelmed trying to protect herself! this is a healthy compromise and prevents her from feeling too cooped up. discord, over time, knows her boundaries and how to mix things up without upsetting her, and if things ever did go too far -- either due to his actions or someone else's -- he could change whatever he needs to at will.
