The Princess Royal episode 20, 2024.
It’s not really a kiss, but Dong ge is happy all the same <3
Thank you for posting about W! I don't see much about it. I think it deserves a lot more love. I normally don't like romance at all, but W Two World is really, really good. I am glad that I discovered it. Because seriously it is a great show. Do you know if there is fanfic about it?
Hey there, sorry for the late response. I think I’ve came across some W fanfics, but can’t remember where. You might want to check hitoritabi’s tumblr for all W & Jongsuk related stuffs :)
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
and Winter.
This cut scene is one of my most favorite even though I can only understand half of it because:
- Cai Quan and Shen Zhui look like they are well on their way to join the Su Zhe fanclub. Welcome guys, we have tea, clementines and heartaches in abundance for every member.
- Jingyan just sits there quietly but not so subtly beaming like a proud spouse.
- How can a small gesture like half a wave look so pretty on Su Zhe. He is extra soft and pretty here.
- Shen Zhui thinks his prince is too buffalo and needs help to court the scholar..? Little does he know.
- Jingyan just sits there beaming like a proud spouse.
- Oh so you guys are at a level of no words needed just need to look at each other already? Is this why the scene is cut for being too gay for television?
- Jingyan likes/treats Su Zhe as Su Zhe well is very important to me, and there is so little of it officially in the show.
!!!!!!!!!!!
Transcript (v rough bc I am once again procrastinating)
Shen Zhui: If you ask me, of these eighteen people, the most stubborn and insolent, the least receptive, would be Lao Cai here! If there are disputes in the testing arena in the future, you won’t even need to ask - he started it for sure.
Cai Quan: If the elders speak reasonably, would I ignore them outright?
[Insert proud spouse look #1 from Jingyan, this boy is so besotted. AHEM.]
MCS: Please be assured, it’s true that Pavillion Master Chen is shrewd and canny in his dealings, but his scholarship isn’t false either. I’m afraid when it comes to grading the young masters’ essays, Minister Cai will not have much with which to argue.
Shen Zhui: See? See! Your lack of scholarship has reached even Sir Su’s ears!
[Proud spouse look #2 from Jingyan. Seriously babe, keep it under wraps IN PUBLIC.]
Shen Zhui: Even though it’s hard to turn the tide on the corruption and cheating in the imperial exams with just this one assessment, it is the start to righting the political arena. I offer thanks in His Highness’ name to Sir Su, for your help in this year’s selection.
Cai Quan: Sir Su possesses the wisdom to truly serve the country; but wisdom and integrity go hand in hand in the ways of the divine. The world as it is right now present much opportunity for thought. I hope Sir will treasure the chance, and not miss your way.
MCS: How do you mean?
[Shen Zhui: YOUR HIGHNESS!! NOW IS YOUR CHANCE!!! Jingyan: Wtf?! I came out to have fun talk politics but I feel so attacked rn. MCS: … This is going to take a while… Shen Zhui: COME ON, CARPE THE DIEM ALREADYYY. Jingyan: Oh my god, are they- MCS: You’re lucky you’re cute, your highness. Jingyan: Guyssss you are the worst wingmen. Shen Zhui: I am laughing the laugh of welp I guess this sword has fallen on my head.]
Shen Zhui: Sir Su is so astute, your point of view must provide unique insight. As things stand now, who can renew and restore the court’s current decay? Who would be able to provide for the people and protect their rights? I think Sir already has a clear idea of who that is in his heart.
[Me: Oh hell yeah, it’s in his heart xDDD]
MCS: Please do not worry, ministers. It has been a year since I first arrived at the capital. I’ve seen what I need to see, and considered what I need to consider. In the future, I hope both ministers will be able to point me in the right direction.
[Me: You little shit, are you laughing at them? Jingyan: ✿♥‿♥✿ Shen Zhui and Cai Quan: YAAAAAS THE MINISTERIAL BROS STRIKE AGAIN.]
OMG YOU’RE AWESOME THANK YOU FOR TRANSLATING!! ♥
lol at the ministerial bros and their wingmanship XDDDDD
Reactions from still early on in the series, definitely less than ten episodes at this point: - I had brief thoughts of shipping MCS and Jingrui, I really like their friendship a lot, but it’s not quite there for me, not enough pining looks or intense stares. orz What that says about my life and choices, apparently. MCS clearly has a lot of really important stuff going on and whatever might or might not have been there with Jingrui just cannot possibly compare to the intensity of his bigger plan. Without Jingrui being a major part of that, I just can’t quite ship it beyond a “I could see where that’s coming from, but it doesn’t quite reach me” feeling. I’m not quite there with Jingrui and Yujin, they’re cute, but I haven’t felt that certain spark yet. I do like MCS/Nihuang, but idk. It sort of feels like how he interacts with Meng. Someone who is very dear to him, someone that’s important, but that there’s… a disconnect there? There are feelings, but not enough plotting and machinations to quite draw me in. Whereas with MCS and JY, I already know plotting and machinations are going to be a major part of it. It’s also that… part of it is that Mei Changsu won’t put Jingrui first. This might not have stopped me, given that MCS is a very plotting type of character, who he puts first doesn’t necessarily have to mean the one he loves, especially in revenge porn tropes. But it’s pretty clear that he does love Jingyan and Nihuang and so Jingrui just can’t quite compare, no matter how cute their friendship/relationship is, no matter how much I genuinely enjoy their scenes together. And I think that’s how I feel about Nihuang as well–I like her so much! And I was tempted to go with MCS/Nihaung, but the level of intensity just… is not the same at all. :/ - So I watched episodes 5-6 and I continue to absolutely love Nihuang (who is utterly stunning, oh my god, like there are loads of hot people in this show but oh my god Nihuang is the most gorgeous) but I feel like my shipping preferences are: - Jingyan/MCS - Jingyan/Nihuang - Jingyan/MCS/Nihuang - MCS/Nihuang I appreciate that MCS really seems to genuinely care for her, but they don’t have nearly the smouldering scenes that Jing and MCS have, plus also the scene of Nihuang and Jing putting together the truth behind Noble Consort Yue’s plans (to drug Nihuang and force her to marry that guy she wanted), realizing that Prince Yu wouldn’t have been able to piece it together himself, which left Su Zhe made me think, well, clearly MCS is dying and won’t be able to live as Jing’s advisor, so he needs someone smart, then Nihuang and Jing could miss MCS together and I’d go for that. So maybe I kind of sort of ship Jing/Nihuang, but it’s in the way where I ship Star Wars’ Obi-Wan/Padme, where it’s about Anakin’s ghost in the room.
re: Jingrui/MCS
I had the same feeling regarding their friendship, and got curious as to why the show chose to portray it that way, since I had read somewhere that in early versions of the book, Jingrui and their relationship is much more prominent. After reading the book, I could see the reason they subdued Jingrui’s whole personality and the relationship.
Book Jingrui half of the time comes across as a jealous teengirl who doesn’t want anyone to get close to his precious Su xiong. And his precious Su xiong’s harem is already crowded enough, drama or book. By playing down that aspect, the show focused on Jingrui’s innocence and pure heart by itself, thus making MCS’s decision to go ahead with his plotting against Xie Yu all the more crueler, which would kill MCS endlessly much more had he live long enough to carry that guilt. The fact that he deliberately sabotages an innocent child’s life, to me somehow is more difficult for Changsu to accept, much more than hurting the people who are actually involved on either side of the game of thrones.
So drama Jingrui is all about respecting this extraordinarily genius xiong, whose actions increasingly contradict his very own upright principles that Jingrui has come to love. Jingrui has to learn to see the big picture while maintaining his sweet heart and decency the hard way, but he could and he does. It’s a pity we don’t have a MCS/Jingrui conversation after the Emperor’s birthday (btw everyone should know by now to never invite Su Zhe to a birthday party, ever). I also would die to see how Jingrui would react if he finds out that Su xiong is also that Lin Shu gege, who was oh so cool and smart but found him and Yujin annoying, who used to, like, tie them to tree and stuff. Jingrui, dear, you clearly have a type, and that type is NOT good for you!
As much as I would have loved more of Changsu and Jingrui’s friendship (because I really, really loved their friendship a lot!) I think the amount the drama put in was perfect, especially considering how that friendship ended up. It was the perfect way to show that Changsu’s plotting was going to get innocent people caught in the crossfire. He said so early on, that innocent people would be hurt by this and then they actually showed us that–having it be Jingrui, who really, really liked Changsu, who was the sweetest, most honest character, who was just so wholly good, be the one that got hurt illustrated that better than anyone else, I think. And having him understand Changsu’s reasons, having him not be bitter about how Changsu never returned his friendship the way Jingrui did, just hit right in Changsu’s guilt complex, that such a good, noble, forgiving person was hurt by him hurts so much more than someone who deserved it. I don’t hate Mei Changsu for what he did, because the other choice was allowing 70,000+ people’s lives to be ruined, to have more people’s lives ruined if Crown Prince Xian or Prince Yu had taken the throne. I don’t blame him because it was Xie Yu that ruined Jingrui and Xie Bi and Liyang’s lives, the truth was going to come out at some point. But it is true that he sacrificed his friendship with Jingrui on the altar of his plans, that he would make the same choice again, that it was necessary, and just further illustrated that Mei Changsu had to do a lot of cruel things to achieve Lin Shu’s goals. AND THAT JUST MAKES ME WANT TO WRAP HIM UP IN A BLANKET AND FEED HIM SOUP. BOTH OF THEM. ;___;
In a perfect world, Changsu is just MCS of Jiang Zuo Alliance, and every so often Jingrui would visit him in Langzhou and they would stay up late into the night by the warm candles drinking good tea and having good talks about everything from martial art to vision of a great nation and no one has to plot anything and no one gets hurt. But then again in a perfect world Jingrui would not have Xie Yue as a father, and MCS would never existed to begin with so yeah wrap them up in lots of blankets and feed them all the soup in the world ;___;
Watching Ode to Joy, and Jin Dong’s Lao Tan is basically a serious Lin Chen in much better fitting clothes. Let’s see:
✓ Smart, capable CEO of a well known corp.
✓ Friendzoned right from the start.
✓ Always running around helping the Female Lead achieve life goal.
✓ Always seen bringing water, food/medicine to said Female Lead.
✓ The insight to said Female Lead’s heart and soul.
✓ The needed punch to the face of the Love Interest when Love Interest being stupid. Wait, where is Lin Chen when Jingwang’s being a dense short-sighted water buffalo?
Photo is unrelated to either show because, Jin Dong.

What to do when you need some happy NiF/LYB things...
I know, we all love the pain this show brings.
But maybe sometimes, you reach that emotional nadir where you just can’t feel anymore. Or maybe you need a bit of balm for your heart so that it can withstand even more emotional filleting.
Or maybe not lol but anyway, this is a compilation of funny NiF-related things for when you need a break from all that dehydration. Most of it consists of the cast goofing off (because this list is also an excuse to compile links for that and also because they are adorable) and some fanworks.
UN-AIRED ENDING
+ starts at 4:25 - Probably the best balm after the soul-crushing ending.
CUT SCENES / BLOOPERS
There are a lot of these on yt but I don’t think there is any one playlist or channel that compiles them all. Usually I just start watching one and then browse through the related video recs.
Here are some of my favourites.
+ MCS & Lin Chen, MCS & Meng Zhi - Highlights include the arm(?)-wrestling at 2:55, MCS showing them who’s boss at 7:36 (here’s a gifset with translation).
+ Foya - In the novel, Jingyan has a pet wolf named Foya. Presumably they couldn’t get an actual wolf for the filming so they substituted it with a Tibetan mastiff. Which still didn’t work because it was very uncooperative haha.
+ Cut scenes - This is a compilation of some cut scenes and my favourite is the MCS & Fei Liu scene from 5:00. It’s just so heart-warming <3 (Also, at 1:02, I’m guessing that’s a glimpse of the Jiangzuo Alliance’s hq at Langzhou?)
BEHIND THE SCENES
I just love seeing photos of the cast having fun on set or photos where they’re in costume but the setting is very definitely not ancient (I really love the photo of Jingyan and Xia Dong on the prison steps, and the one of the emperor with a fluffy pink handwarmer). Most of these are probably reposts from weibo.
+ Video - A small selection of BTS photos to give you an idea of what you can expect.
+ Facebook - This fb page posts a lot of BTS videos, photos and anecdotes. I still haven’t finish going through them.
+ Twitter - This twitter posts a lot of BTS videos and photos.
PHOTOSHOOTS
+ This is a very serious show, yeap
+ BTS videos of the above shoot: MCS, Meng Zhi & Fei Liu, MCS & Fei Liu, MCS & Jingyan
+ idek what this is?? - at the bottom of the post there are some pictures that looks like it’s a modern AU photoshoot. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the photos were used for Christmas greetings? Also I’m pretty sure I’ve seen more pictures from the same shoot but I don’t have them on hand.
SCENE RE-ENACTMENTS
Pivotal scenes from the show re-enacted by different cast members! These are all crack. The keyword to search is 琅琊榜 反转小剧场 and here are some of my favourites.
+ “Are you married yet? You need to hurry.” - feat. Hu Ge, Liu Tao and Wang Kai (aka MCS, Jingyan and Nihuang) (gifset with translation here).
+ MCS and Li Gang talk about the weather while Jingrui’s world crumbles around him - feat. Gao Xin, Wang Ou, Liu Mintao and Liu Yijun (aka Crown Prince, Banruo, Consort Jing and Xie Yu).
(There are a lot of re-enactments of the scene where Nihuang confronts MCS over his identity but my favourites, which are the ones featuring Hu Ge and Wang Kai - separately, with them playing both roles lol - seem to have been taken down :/)
INTERVIEWS
+ LYB cast are guests on a variety show, translated and subbed by @incessantcomposition - They talk a lot about stuff that happened during the filming, it’s super fun to watch.
FANWORKS
+ Amazing and hilarious fancomics translated by @qi-lang: Mr. Su Goes to the Zoo, Langya Hall Diaries, Jingsu Petit Fours (I believe the first and the third are still on-going?)
+ I love these girl!LS comics by @psych0-olll3city, especially goober dad Lin Xie.
+ The Legend of Xia Xia by @smiting-finger. Truly a legend that will live on in our hearts /wipes tear.
+ Seasons of Love, a MCS/JY arranged marriage AU visual novel by @brisedete. There is like a teeny bit of angst here but oh my god I think I cracked a rib laughing while playing this.
So, this is it! This list is definitely not exhaustive, especially for the fanworks part but this is primarily what I can recall + things that aren’t easily searchable. Let me know if there is anything else that should go on this list and I’ll update it!
The BTS facebook ❤️ Thank you for the amazing list!
This cut scene is one of my most favorite even though I can only understand half of it because:

[Fanart] Prompt 56 (WIP)
Yo, tell me the tale of how Lin Chen became friends with the son of his father’s friend Lin Xie.
This is the first page of a fanwork (doujinshi) by anon-artist, who wanted to let the prompter know that they are still working on the prompt! Anon-artist leaves the following note:
A/N: What started as a few doodles somehow turned itself into a multipage story, most of which is in various states of rough draft. So this is not a fill; it’s a “hey there, i’m working on it”. MCS would not appear until some time later, but he will be in the story, promise! :D It’s a 30+ pages thing; the writing is mostly done, the drawing will take longer. I’ll try to finish it soon. Thank you for waiting!
We are super excited about your fanwork anon-artist and can’t wait to see more! ❤
