You should have known that when Aeri decided to take the reins of her birthday party and made the executive decision to celebrate both hers and Ning’s on the same night, something would go wrong.
In moments like these, when everyone around you is so happy they can’t contain it, you wish you could handle noise the same. You wish you could feel as content in these moments as you do waking up in the morning to Yizhou in your arms, caressing your cheek. Despite the natural discomfort you experience, you couldn’t help the smile on your face watching your four members enjoying themselves, especially the two birthday girls.
As you stand up to make your way over to Minjeong and Jimin to get the birthday cakes ready for them, you feel someone brush against your arm, and their hand lingers at your bicep. You turn and notice it was Kazuha trying to call you over to her and Yunjin. You shyly decline and point to your members who are sneaking into the living room with two birthday cakes at the ready.
What you don’t notice as you join your members is Yizhou staring down Kazuha, making the girl shrink into herself just slightly. It’s only ever in these moments that she wishes they could be honest about their relationship to those around them.
Once grabbing Yizhou’s cake from Minjeong and sneaking up on the two girls for a birthday surprise, the overwhelming atmosphere calms down a little, with everyone enjoying a cake slice, being able to escape the unrealistic standards of idol life.
You take this moment to go on the balcony, grab your jacket, and head out so as not to get too cold, since you planned on staying out there for a while to get ready to interact with others again.
“You know how to sneak off so well. I swear it’s a talent at this point.” You hear Yizhou say after the balcony door opened slightly, music pouring out for only a moment.
“I think it might be a survival instinct more than anything, Ning.” You pause for a moment, taking in the beauty you get to call yours. “You look beautiful.”
Her smile immediately brightens as she comes over to sit on your lap, facing the view. Noticing the fear on your face and the glance you make towards the balcony door, she rubs the top of your knee affectionately.
“Nobody can see us from here, don’t worry, I only came because I noticed you slipping away.” She leans further into your body, making you wrap your arms around her waist and rest your head on her left shoulder.
Quietness settles between you two as you enjoy the moment away from everyone else, but together at the same time. You can’t help but lean in and leave a kiss on the side of her neck, feeling her giggle from the random sensation. You notice as her giggle dies down, she tightens her grip on your arms around her before standing up to stand at the railing of the balcony.
You immediately take your jacket off and place it over her shoulders after noticing her slight shiver and stand to the left of her, one hand timidly sliding over to rest over hers.
“What was that all about before you brought the cakes over to sing to us?” She asks abruptly, and you can’t help but hear the tightness in her voice. The telltale sign she’s jealous of something. The problem is you can’t pinpoint what she’s jealous of.
“What are you talking about, Ning?” The confusion is written all over your face. If Yizhou weren’t as jealous as she was, she’d probably point out how cute it is that you don’t notice people flirting with you.
“Kazuha? When you decided to feel you up like she’s never seen a bicep before?” She said her voice growing even tighter at the thought of someone touching you like they have a chance. Even if none of them knew you two were dating, it still hurts her to see people treat you like you’re single.
“Oh, baby, that, I think she was just trying to take a picture or something–” You try to reason, but if you were to admit it, even you were caught off guard by the lingering touch in the moment.
“You and I both know that was too far.” She whispers, pulling your jacket tighter around herself. “But it’s not like she’d have a chance anyway.” She laughs, clearly finding amusement in the situation now that she’s gotten it off her chest.
“Yeah, baby, I’m all yours, no need to worry about anything.” You say going behind her and putting your arms around her to be as close to her as you physically can.
She hums and leans against your body.
“Can we stay like this? You’re warming me up.” She turns towards you, letting her hands loop around your neck and resting her head on your chest.
“I’ll stay here for as long as you’d like, Ning. You know I don’t have a problem staying away from the chaos.” You pull her closer and press a kiss to the top of her head, enjoying your time together.
Back inside the living room, Jimin spots you two and decides to switch to a slower song so you can enjoy your time together with the best ambiance. Smiling softly at her members who found happiness together in what tends to be such a disappointing industry.
She also notices Kazuha taking a peek outside the balcony door, with her shoulders sagging slightly when she notices the scene outside. If she had looked outside for longer, she would have noticed the smirk on Yizhou’s face after lifting her head off your chest, clearly satisfied with the effect your affection towards her had on Kazuha.
“You know just how to warm me up.” She said, taking off your jacket and putting it around your shoulders before leaving a kiss on your cheek, leaving a bright red print on your cheek. “Don’t even think about wiping that off.” She winks at you before going back inside and joining Minjeong on the sofa.
Minjeong notices the clear glow on Yizhou’s face and spots you walking back in. She makes eye contact with Aeri, who’s on the other sofa, talking to JImin, all three clearly smiling knowingly at the blush on your face.

It had become a tradition that, along with your real birthday presents for one another, you would gift each other clothing that you would wear more than the birthday girl. So Aeri truly shouldn’t have been surprised when she walked into the living room after a long day of schedules and saw you in that Spider-Man shirt you had gotten for her last birthday while reading a comic.
If she were to have been honest with herself, she did instinctively quieted down and sneaked over to not break the alluring peace written all over your face. Normally, Aeri viewed giving gifts that you intended to use more than the receiver as inconsiderate. However, considering that the clothing was never the only gift you gave her and that she truly believed the pieces always looked better on you, she had learned to look forward to seeing what superhero hoodie or shirt you had bought her.
After watching you from the side for what felt like hours, she decided to settle next to you and snatch the glasses off the bridge of your nose, sliding them to rest on her face instead. This is finally what snapped you out of your daze and made you glance over in her direction, your posture immediately melting upon seeing her.
“You’re home a little early today.” You mutter, struggling to make eye contact the same way you still struggle to this day to understand why she agreed to date you.
“I couldn’t wait to get back to you.” She said with a voice ten times more confident than your own, but suspiciously looking at your comic instead of the usual teasing eye contact she loves to bother you with.
If you had taken the chance to look her in the eyes instead of staring at her hands that were teasingly trying to hold yours, she would have noticed the blush and multiple glances she was making at your collarbone peaking through her shirt.
“Stop, you know that makes me nervous. How was practice today?” You rush out the question so she doesn’t have time to tease you.
“It went well, or at least as well as practice can go. We were mainly figuring out stage placements for our show in Hong Kong. My day would have been better spent with a cutie like you, that’s for sure.” She whispered the last part with her mouth hovering over your ear as if daring you to turn your head.
You idiotically do, and your lips are centimeters away from hers, you automatically glance at her lips, licking yours instinctively upon seeing the lip gloss coating hers. You lean back quicker than she can even think to lean in, due to her being distracted by the small scar you have just beneath your cheekbone. The scar that she could never take her eyes off, and the one that makes her as flustered as you always find yourself in.
“D-did you know that Spider-Man’s first appearance in the comics was in Amazing Fantasy #15? And unlike Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, he created devices to shoot out webs. He didn’t even get the full comic for himself; only about half of it was about Spider-Man.” You stutter out trying to shift the conversation away from something you knew were fluster you.
“Hmm, is that so, baby? Tell me more.” She said, one hand teasing the back of your neck while the other traced your collarbone. She smiled satisfactorily when she felt you swallow down out of nerves.
As you were about to continue, she lay her head on your chest, pushing you down to where you were lying along the couch with her on top of you. Despite how much of a nervous fit you put on around her constantly, your hands settled around her instinctively, one resting on her head, playing with her hair, and the other going around her waist to pull her into you more.
“Yeah, and um, even though he tends to be displayed as someone nerdy and picked on for no good reason, my favorite interpretation of his character is when he tends to be more stuck up and rude to others due to their lack of academics. It adds a level of dimension to his character than just being the lame bookworm.” You say, trying not to focus on how she tightens her hold on you and gradually loosens her grip throughout your spiel.
“You know I really like you wearing my clothes. My favorite thing to come back home to, other than just your presence.” She lifts her head off your chest momentarily to put your glasses back on the bridge of your nose.
Before she lays her head back on your chest for the rest of the night, she leans forward and leaves a quick peck on your lips, pulling away before you have the chance to react.
“Let’s just stay like this for the rest of the night.” She mumbles the exhaustion of a long day at work, finally catching up to her.
You think to yourself that you wouldn’t dare to move and keep that hidden pact until the morning, when you wake up to her leaving small kisses on your cheek.

Having known Jimin since you were both teenagers, it was easy for a friendship to develop between you in those sickeningly quiet trainee practice rooms after everyone had left. Having known who you were from a very young age, it was just as easy for feelings to blossom for your first friend at that company.
After a rough monthly evaluation, Jimin had decided to stay behind, noticing that you were still practicing on sharpening your lines, going on pure determination and adrenaline, with your back clearly sagging whenever you had small breaks between the music from exhaustion. Going completely unnoticed by you, she goes over to the speaker system and shuts off the now overly repetitive music.
You turn your head instinctively in her direction, caught off guard, clearly having not expected someone else to stay behind.
“You and I both know if anyone’s spot is guaranteed for the debut lineup, it’s you. The instructors are just going harder to see if you have the determination, but this is too much; you can barely stand on your own.” She remarked not making eye contact, because despite the exhaustion written all over your face, she was still too flustered to look at you directly after all these years of friendship.
“That’s a lie. If anyone makes the debut lineup, it’s definitely going to be you and Minjeong. But even so, those critiques were more than just testing me; they thought I wasn’t enough this time. And I have to be enough, I have to make it into the group, I’m not risking letting myself believe those words were just a test.” You muttered the exhaustion, not even letting you get out words at full strength.
Jimin looks at you for a couple of moments before sitting against the wall furthest from the door, patting the spot next to her when she notices your eyes trained on her like a magnet. If you had the energy, you would have noticed the blush on her face from your intense gaze.
You sink next to her, your head automatically fitting into her shoulder like you were made for each other. A content sigh escapes your lips before you can stop it, making Jimin turn her head to you and pat your upper thigh to show her support without breaking the silence you’ve both learned to yearn for, with the hecticness of training at a company like SM.
“I don’t care if my spot is guaranteed so long as it’s next to you.” You whisper, afraid to say it too loud, afraid to take a moment like this and make it more serious than it already feels.
“I would give up debuting if it wasn’t next to you.” She muttered.
You didn’t have to respond because, despite all the effort and sacrifice you put into debuting, you knew that you would do the same; you couldn’t imagine a life without her by your side. She didn’t need a response because with the way your head burrowed further into her shoulder, the crown of your head practically becoming a part of her neck, she knew you’d do the same.
“Is there anything that you’re scared of leaving behind for idol life?” You ask, with an answer in mind that you’re too afraid to say on your own.
“Having a normal life, like being able to sing and share moments with people all around the world, will be great, but what happens when I catch feelings for someone? Will I have to distance myself from her-them?” She stutters out the last part, but still isn’t able to bring herself to say him, making you smile internally.
“It’s just us, you know, I don’t judge that. It would be hypocritical if I did.” You finally smiled for the first time since the feedback you had received, interlocking your hands together.
“Plus, maybe we’ll get lucky, and that person will be close enough in our lives that we won’t have to hide them.” You gather the courage to make eye contact for the first time that night, the shame and embarrassment from your “critiques” clearly lifted off your shoulders, as if they never occurred.
Neither of you breaks the silence again, choosing to instead daydream and wish for your first kiss of many to come sooner rather than later. Both seeing the future where you can unapologetically be together and loud about it while on stage with your three other members.
Imagining fans years from now viewing you as an iconic due they want to date one another without knowing that in the quiet moments, you two think back on how you wished for the same on this exact day.
Neither of you had to admit your feelings now, nor did you have to make the first move, because you knew it would come eventually, and you knew these quiet moments would carve out space for so many more firsts to occur.

The early stages of a relationship always have much that is not shared. The annoying family member you avoid at family get-togethers, the coworker you can’t stand working on projects with, and your favorite park to go for a walk in. Considering you were dating an idol, there was a lot on her end she couldn’t just share immediately, so not many important conversations have come up yet, which would prove to be a problem due to your own stubbornness and care.
Minjeong hasn’t been able to share much time with you after recently making your relationship official due to comeback preparations. Meaning the process of getting to know and understand each other better has been slightly delayed, as you both have just wanted to enjoy the moments you’ve just gotten the chance of having.
You’ve known each other for a couple of months now, after Aeri had introduced you two at a private Christmas celebration, which turned out to be with her fellow members only. After hitting it off, you started talking more regularly without Giselle around to make questioning glances at how quickly you had warmed up to each other.
Last week, after spending the afternoon together talking about anything that came up, you rushed out an awkward and clearly out of place relationship proposal while she was in the middle of explaining how she was excited for Valentine’s Day.
“W-will you let me be your girlfriend?”, you had stated as a more rushed, incomplete thought, practically cutting yourself off.
Minjeong stared at you for what felt like an agonizing minute, what you later learned to have been only a couple of seconds maximum, and said without any trace of fear.
“I thought you would catch the hint eventually.” That same contagious smile breaks out on her face, making you feel like you’d seen it for the first time again.
Now, after a week of naive bliss, you find yourself in a tricky situation, seeing that smile again or staying alive. And why would you ever choose to live when you can die in eternal happiness?
“So do you wanna try it, baby?” Minjeong, your now girlfriend, stated snapping you out of your daydream living back all the happy moments you’ve had so far.
“I thought you were going to make raspberry lemonade.” You say shyly, not wanting to come off as ungrateful or selfish.
“That was the original plan, but we were all out of raspberries, and when I went to buy more, I spotted strawberries, and even though you don’t mention your love for strawberries as much, I assumed you’d like it as well. I mean, who doesn’t like strawberry lemonade?” Your girlfriend rambled on. Clearly afraid she had messed up something you were looking forward to.
No matter how much you wish you could say you hated strawberries, you simply can’t because you’ve never been given the chance to remember what they taste like. A deathly allergy that made itself clear when you were two years old after your mom let some on your plate, almost sending everyone in the house, including your, a lot smaller at the time, best friend Aeri into a frenzy.
So out of fear and, honestly, being too drawn to the beauty in front of you, you said the one thing that could easily kill you.
“Anyone who doesn’t like strawberry lemonade is just ridiculous. Give it to me, I’m sure it’s delicious.” Despite the conviction in your voice, there was a clear disconnect between that emotion and the anticipation and fear showing on your face.
Minjeong quickly made the same expression that will slowly kill your heart, if you even have a heart to be killed in a few moments, and slid over the drink while practically jumping in place.
“And make sure to tell me your honest opinion. I need to know for the future strawberry lemonades I make.” She said her voice shaking from pure adrenaline from wanting to do well for you.
“When have I ever lied to you?” You said holding in one of the biggest lies you’ve told in your life.
With no chance to run away, you take a long sip of the lemonade and can’t help but enjoy the taste that hits your tongue. This happiness is short-lived because you start to feel your throat closing before you can even tell your girlfriend how much you enjoyed the taste.
“C-can you get my EpiPen from my nightstand drawer?” You ask, choking on your words from the lack of air coming through. You think to yourself, if this is my last moment, at least I get to spend it with who I want, all my happy moments in life to be with.
Fear quickly rises on Minjeong’s face, and without speaking, out of fear of making this more real than it already is, she rushes to your nightstand and finds an EpiPen she didn’t even know you needed. Quickly rushing back to the kitchen island and wasting no time to jam it into your bare thigh, due to your shorts riding up.
“Oh my god, thank you so much– Ow!” You get cut off from Minjeong hitting you across the head out of frustration.
“Why didn’t you tell me you had an allergy to strawberries?” She stated her voice rising out of frustration with your idiocy.
“I didn’t want you to think that I didn’t appreciate the gesture. You went out of your way to make it. I wanted you to see how much I look forward to that effort from you. I wanted to see the way you smile when I enjoy the things you do for me.” You said, playing with your sleeve and not making eye contact.
Seeing your sadness, she wraps her arms around your neck and pulls you into an embrace to show that her frustration was out of care more than anything else.
“And I do appreciate that, but I’d rather have one chance where that doesn’t work out, then let this be the last chance of doing something for you ever. You have to tell me these things even if you don’t want to disappoint me.” She says, rubbing the back of your neck while you bury your head into hers.
“Ok, I promise to tell you from now on, but it was worth it. And for what it’s worth, the strawberry was delicious, just deathly.” Earning yourself a small laugh and a gentle smack on the back of the head.
“Now lets get you to the hospital to make sure you don’t die on me later from that sip. And I’ll make sure to only make raspberry lemonade from now on.” She says while pulling away from the hug and going to get her phone to call her manager for a ride.
“Promise you won’t tell Aeri?” You ask from across the room while getting ready yourself.
“I promise.” She says while already texting the group chat with all her members. She gets to keep her own lies, too, here and there, and this one isn’t as detrimental as yours.
