emergency funds

Hey y’all,

Yesterday, my roommate/best friend took an emergency 1-way flight home to be with her mom, as her dad tragically and suddenly passed away earlier this week.

I’m grateful for her mom being able to get her a flight out, but here’s the issue: she does not have the money for a ticket home, nor does she have any way to pay rent.

Her job (retail) gave her two weeks off of work, unpaid, to be able to go home and grieve. We’re lucky they didn’t fire her like they had been thinking, but that’s two weeks with no income.

Her half of the rent is $650. A plane ticket home this weekend is going to be about $400 with tax. She needs help.

Friends have very graciously given us some money for her to cover at least part of a return flight, and her mom has helped us before, but with cremation and other costs we don’t want to have to ask her.

We know we’re asking a lot, but being homeless isn’t something we can afford and not something I want her to come back to.

Any money we get will solely be going to those two objectives. Any extra funds will go towards cremation costs and helping out her mom with the loss and their home.

I understand if you can’t donate, believe me, but a reblog would help immensely as well. I’m trying to think of something I could do in return for people who do donate, but I’ll figure that out when it comes to me.

car troubles, or please help me dig myself out of this financial hole

The basics:

My car broke down in traffic last week and I had to have it towed to the mechanic. They replaced my alternator, which left me just about flat broke.

My car is rapidly leaking power steering fluid because it also needs a new rack and pinion. The estimate for this is $650, so to be safe I am asking for $700.

Here’s the written estimate from my mechanic. (I also need a new valve cover gasket, but they just did that in January, so it’s under warranty.)

Stuff I can do for you:

Proofread your writing–fiction, nonfiction, for school, whatever.

Mock interviews–if you have one coming up and you want to practice with someone, I can do a skype or google hangouts call.

I have a masters in library and information studies and some work experience in that field, so I am definitely qualified to help you find sources for research papers and other school projects, and to help you with your citations and works cited pages. Tbh this is mostly stuff your college or university library will do for free, and a lot of them have instant messaging options if you don’t have the ability or the spoons to go to the library in person. This is just something I can do in return for donations if you’re so inclined.

I can write short pieces of fanfiction. If I’m not familiar with the canon you want fanfiction of, I’m willing to read/watch/listen enough to familiarize myself with it to the point where I can hopefully give you want you want. Want to see fic of your rarepair? I’ll do my best. Message me if you’re interested!

More details:

Between my student loan debt and my car debt, the loan payments are about $300 a month. I’m very fortunate to have a full time job at better than minimum wage, but my debts make it extremely difficult to save money, especially when I run into an emergency like this.

I have a one bedroom apartment and pay for all of my own living expenses except for my health insurance, which I will have to start paying next year. (I am honestly not sure how I’m going to be able to afford that, but we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it.)

If you need proof of any of this, I’ll send you what I can, e.g. screencaps of the loan balances on my car and my student loans, pictures of my leaky car, etc.

I also have my two sweet and cuddly cats to support, and they would very much appreciate it if I get my car fixed up soon so I have more money to spend on catnip and scratching posts.

“When 22 people died outside a concert hall in Manchester, England, the media coverage was wall to wall. The cry went up that something must be done! Journalists followed the investigation. Press briefings were scheduled regularly. With broken hearts, we pored over color photographs of the victims, many of them only children, and we listened to bystanders describe their horror. The world grieved as the story unfolded for a week.

Five days later, 29 Christians in Egypt died when terrorists attacked their bus. Forty-two others were seriously injured and the assassins got away. That story vanished in less than 48 hours. No color photos. No interviews with authorities. No tragic details.

Here’s what you probably never heard.

The Christian group of parents, grandparents, and children were traveling in two buses to pray at a monastery. Their vehicles were stopped by terrorists outside the town of Minya. After the buses were surrounded by killers, passengers on one of the buses were forced to exit the bus one by one. As each reached the door to face masked gunmen, they were asked, “Are you Muslim?” None of them were. Each was then given a chance to renounce Jesus Christ and convert to Islam.

As each passenger confessed Christ and refused to convert, he was dragged a few feet away to be killed by either a shot in the head or a slit throat. One at a time, nineteen adults, and ten children were ordered to become Muslims or die. One by one they were instantly murdered. The criminals then fired on the group in the second bus, injuring 42, before speeding away to safety.

Why are tragedies like the one in Manchester more interesting or important than massacres like the one in Minya, Egypt? I suppose it could be racism. Or maybe we only care about tragedies that involve celebrities and beautiful people. But I seriously believe two reasons are more likely.

The media run away from Christian martyrs because they are a powerful witness to the Christian faith. When random concert-goers fall prey to terror, in the wrong place at the wrong time, it makes the rest of us feel sad but lucky. But when Christians die because they refuse to renounce their faith, it speaks to the power and the freedom ordinary people discover in Christ. No sane person willingly dies for something he knows is a lie. Historically, seeing the deaths of Christian martyrs has inspired others to follow the Savior as well. The secular media wants no part of anything like that! So a vague headline about people dying in a bus attack manages to cover the bad news without accentuating the Good News.

Christians in America turn their backs as well because stories about martyrs in other lands reflect poorly on the quality our faith here in the West…”

God Knows I wish I didn’t have to do this. But this Friday, after being extremely bloated for 8 days and ending up in the ER, I was diagnosed with a tumor in a stomach. I’m still in shock, feeling numb and like Im in a nightmare. I was scheduled for an emergency biopsy today, which they later rescheduled for tomorrow, to find out if its cancerous or benign. I was told in the hospital that I was being accepted without insurance, and I I was told to just present myself even if I didn’t have money, but I I just got a call from the Dr’s office that I will be needing $450, money that I don’t have. I’m devastated. I’m in the process of applying for some sort in indigent insurance (fow low income people) but that will take some time, and so I’m asking for everyone’s help. I have almost 60k followers. PLEASE, PLEASE, If you find it in your heart to donate, whatever amount you can, no matter how small, I’ll greatly appreciate it. I need to raise that money by tomorrow noon or they won’t see me. I don’t know what else to do. I’ve seen people on here come together for other causes. I wish I din’t have to do this, but I must. Thank you for the bottom of my heart if you even considered donating something. I’ll be posting updates about what I was told at the Oncologist on my blog.

UPDATE:

The doctor ordered immediate surgery to remove tumor along with my uterus and ovaries. Immediate which means as soon as I have the $15,000 the charge which I don’t have. I’ve been applying to several programs but even if approved, I don’t know if they’re going to be covering 100%.

On top of that, I was fired from my job because I was requesting too many days off.

Please help. Any amount, no matter how small will help a lot. Please, please I’m desperate and I need that surgery asap.

If you can’t donate I understand, but please reblog. I’m scared and nervous and stressed out.

Update: I’m now working with the Texas Human Services Commission, who said they’ll send me a package in the mail with different insurance and I should be able to choose one. I’m no exactly sure what kind of insurance they are, but I’m thinking from the Marketplace or maybe private insurance? I just hope the premiums are not too high 😔. I qualified for 200 in food stamps. God know I never needed them before but now I do. I’m praying with all my heart this tumor turns out to be benign, I get my surgery, heal in about a month, and go back to my “normal” life, but one thing I know, my life will never be the same ever again. Please donate if u can. Reblogging helps a lot too. I’m struggling and this money went and is going towards my medical expenses and whatever’s premiums I’ll have to pay. Thank you ❤️

My best friend and I recently reconnected when she found out what I’m going through. She has offered me to move with her at least temporarily so I can qualify for a special enrollment period with the marketplace if I change zip codes. Seriously thinking leaving everything behind and moving with my son and mom so I can get treated. I’m running out of options and don’t know what else to do :/

The gospel tells me that there is not only hope in my trials, but purpose to them- This is because the gospel teaches me that God’s great goal is not superficial, circumstantial happiness, but joyful holiness. So I can trust that He is using my trials and struggles to change and transform me, to grow my faith, and sanctify my heart. Trials are not the absence of His love, but a great display of His love. And because the gospel reminds me of this devastating love of God, I know that it is impossible for him to allow anything in my life that is not an aspect of His love. So I can pray for God to do the miraculous, but be absolutely at ease if he doesn’t, because I trust that His plan for my life is brought in love. Only the gospel allows me to go through difficulties and still be a rest in my soul.
