Kids can't have a drag queen read near them but a lung full of NO2 is perfectly fine.
Sadly, tests have shown that even using an exhaust hood does not help much. If you or your kids have respiratory issues, this is definitely something you should consider replacing in the near future.
No one is taking away anyone's gas stoves right now. The only thing possibly being considered is halting future gas stove installations, but that is merely a suggestion at this point.
But with this new information, it seems clear we should start down a path to phase them out. Induction heating is said to be as good or even better. The one disadvantage would be for folks who experience a lot of power outages. That said, there are some great battery options that can power appliances for quite some time. They are also great for camping trips. So there are solutions to all of the problems. We just need to decide as a society if pollutants like gas stoves are really a hill worth dying on.
I don't think they are.
"liberal Marxists want to force us to use better technology!!" is a specific kind of freakout they also pulled for LED lightbulbs once.
cowards who fear other people enjoying something are literally the most stupid people in the world. "oh no! cleaner energy means less people are miserable and I don't feel like a bigshot!" shut the fuck up. and the fucking eggs. eggs are worthless disgusting chicken periods and they're bred for the kind of egg production that damages their bodies. even if they weren't (different breed) it's stealing energy and calcium from a bird's fragile bones to eat something that tastes like a greasy bland nothing unless you add plants (seasoning). trans up and eat beans and rice with toast+veggies for breakfast instead of stealing from a soft little animal like a coward (yes, female birds naturally eat unused eggs to get the energy/nutrients back). no need for a gas stove then! just a fucking spine.
and "liberals" aren't off the hook either, it's one party pretending to fight while screwing us all
fuck the oligarchy and their stupid fucking fossil fuels and eggs
we should make fun of americans more. why dont their shops include tax in the price tag. like how much does this item cost? its a surprise :)
Honestly, tea. I’ve lived here my whole life and I have never once known what my total is gonna be at the register. Total fucking mystery.
im an ex-american living in new zealand for the past two years and it still never fails to blow my mind that i can take a $2 coin, walk up to a counter with two $1 items, and perform the expected transaction
yeah let's make fun of Americans for being manipulated by capitalism that's so cool and funny /s
it's completely okay to use shipcest to cope! you don't have to justify yourself to anyone! <3
I think the definition of censorship is frequently muddied to suit an underlying agenda/personal bias in fandom discourse and I find it really annoying. Censorship is censorship, even if you don't like the thing being censored. Agreeing with something being taken down does not negate the censorship at play.
I think people always chalk censorship up to be everything wrong with the world (I've only really seen this in political circles, usually from that brand of conspiracy theorist right-winger under the impression that the new world order has it out for them), or the solution to any perceived "degenerate" behavior in society (this I've seen frequently in fandom circles, but again, very prevalent in political circles too). I think the current political climate has played a huge role in impacting how people view censorship. At least in the west from what I've seen, censorship is a bit of a dirty word. I think this had made people, at least subconsciously, ashamed to actually own up to their beliefs and say what they mean. I think others may want to seem like they're against censorship when they're really not as a kind of gotcha to prove people's assumptions about them wrong.
Regardless of your reasoning, allowing your connotation of the word censorship to change what the word really means leads to more harm than good. In this case, harm to my psyche. It's really annoying. Please say what you mean. I'm begging you. You can have mixed feelings on a topic, I promise.
Whether or not censorship is good is up for you to debate, but if you are going to claim that a work should be taken down because it contains something you don't like, that's censorship. Pretending to be against censorship while proceeding to advocate for censorship is just hypocritical.
This.
No one asked but I will always believe censorship defeats the purpose. If we become to scared to talk about things it all turns into toxic positivity in the worst way, just people being miserably controlled by their most cowardly thoughts and shaming anyone brave enough to just live life and be happy.
just saying but its pretty much impossible to be against self shippng without sounding like a joyless asshole.
just admit that your against people having fun in a way you deem cringe and move on, we dont care that you think your better than us. were busy kissing our blorbo's !!proship fuck off!!
I can't stop laughing at an antishipper calling someone else joyless for policing fiction

I have discovered that there are in fact people who like Game of Thrones but hate ao3, and I have a lot of questions that I’m not going to ask. Actually no I’ll ask one. Please explain why ao3 is bad without referring to the site containing content that can also be found in any of the books in that series.
You can’t use “sexualization of fictional minors” cause I’m pretty sure a 13 year old gets married to an adult in that book. Also a minor gets raped. And there’s a lot of adult characters expressing interest in minors. You can’t use “there’s incest” cause there’s literally a character who’s canonically a product of incest. And probably a lot more, I’m getting all my info from Does The Dog Die and the fact that my parents used to watch the show and my mom reads the books.
As just a me personal thing I also have to add, you can’t say “but it’s about framing” cause even if I give you that, even if I don’t argue with the idea that framing a concept in a certain way is enough to override someone’s moral code in a society that is reinforcing those morals, how do you know, without reading every single fic on AO3, that it’s all framed as a positive thing? The tags tell you nothing. The tags tell you that the subject merely exists within the work. It does not tell you how it is handled. And I know you haven’t read every fic on ao3. The answer to that is, of course, that you can’t. You’re assuming it is. You don’t actually know. And if you’re hate-reading copious amounts of these fanfics to be able to say “most of the ones I’ve read are romanticizing it” then you are admitting that fiction alone cannot change your moral compass and sexual desires enough to make you go out and do terrible things. Unless you wanna confess to crimes you’ve committed after reading all that. That’s certainly a thing you can do. The FBI might like that.
So, to reiterate my question, why is ao3 and the content on the site so unacceptable that the entire thing must be purged or put through a severe overhaul that goes against their mission statement of archiving all fanfics even the gross shit, but A Song Of Ice And Fire is okay?

Hate how shipping has taken the meaning of "I want this pairing to be canon" when it was never meant to be seen that way.
Back when queer pairings were not as present as nowadays, shipping two straight and same gendered characters was common place (arguably it still is and there's nothing wrong with that). But more than that, the shipping in itself wasn't done to perpetuate a certain "agenda", people were doing it just for the fun of it, you know, because those characters looked cute together or they had an interesting dynamic.
I don't understand why nowadays things should be so different. There's nothing wrong in shipping canon lgbt+ characters with other characters that aren't meant to be seen as love interest by the canon material, and I don't mean only for problematic dynamics, but even fluffy ones.
Chances are these fan ships will be rare pairs anyway, but even if they wouldn't be it's not like people are being homophobic or tarnishing "queer representation" by enjoying a fictional scenario with fictional characters. Hell, some of those shippers, artists, and writers could be queer themselves.
Until people have an open mind and respect lgbt+ people in real life, then it doesn't matter what they enjoy in fiction.
Fiction doesn't brainwash anyone into being homophobic, but rather many environmental factors which have grounds in reality (like family, the church, school, the community they live in), could bring someone down that path.
So instead of trying to take the moral high ground and scream at people to get off the platform (which won't do anything for actual queer rights, nor will it stop the content from being made), maybe antis should just say they dislike the ship. At least that would be a way more honest reason than the ones they pretend to care so much about.
Just as an addition, it's so annoying when so people constantly go "I don't ship X because I'm uncomfortable with it" like valid if genuinely true but I mean a lot of people just don't like the ship and babe just say you don't like it. It's fine to just dislike things for no reason. You don't have to harass people or feel uncomfortable or bring real life morals to fiction. Again it's valid I just personally find it annoying when people are implying it relates to like morals or mental health in an extreme way when they could just like block the tags, turn off the computer etc. Maybe I'm being aggro idk. Pet peeve. Anyway I highly agree with op.
