was reading about Damien and am wondering, what happens if/when he loses a fight?
Less food. Isolation. As well as he holds his shock collar pretty high for the full time it allows, waits a few seconds and does it again. He does have a bunch of burns from where his training collars were.
Some shock bands on his legs or arms, so there are small burn marks because zapping for that long that frequently cooked his skin a bit. He was also one of the earlier testers for the system so the shocks used to be more severe and go for longer before they figured out it left 'ugly' scars.
how would damien react to affection (in a scenario where he was adopted with toby and both were well cared for)? would he grow trustful, would he like pets and affection? or is he rather touch averse
That depends on how long he's with this master!
On day one he'd be patrolling the house/property/'territory' and checking on Toby often
After about a week he'd relax a little more (assuming he didn't have any commands/orders)
2-4 weeks in he'd be warming up to his master and if he thinks his master wants him to request affection, he would! He's most likely to stop checking in on Toby every 10 minutes, instead every hour or so
He is only touch-averse with strangers. If his master told him to stop backing away from contact, he would. Like most guard demis, loyalty was the first thing he was trained for. Only time he would go against this training is if Toby was unsafe.

"Stop it. You'll piss him off, I don't want Charles to think about touching Quinn! You're antagonising him! I don't know what you want, but- but trust me, you don't want it. Don't you have a human? Surely you wouldn't want Charles on them...?"

Vampire!Cassius smirks in amusement. "Antagonizing? My dear, I was simply asking a few questions out of curiosity. What sort of investment do you have in this Quinn that would lead to such an emotional outburst?"
He raises an eyebrow at the 'human' part. "No, I have a runaway vampire that I sired, and he seems to have a human latched onto him. Frankly, I'd love nothing more for Charles to get him out of the picture, so I can get my calla lily back."
Cassius looks impressed. "That's quite the power. Then, I have to wonder, would the only way to avoid it be blocking one's hearing, so the words never reach their ears even if they're in range?" He also looks around a bit curiously. "Just how many pets do you have? I only know of Silas and Quinn." - @ask-the-emmettverse
"Hmm, possibly? I was trying to get a deaf human one time, he did not react at all. I wish I knew he was deaf before the cops were called though..."
Charles sighs, "Sadly, Quinn is. not a pet of mine. And I've lost track of the pets I've had, many men over the years, some took well, others didn't and had to be put down. I'm glad Silas took well,"
Silas' answer catches the attention of Cassius, who looks at Charles in intrigue. "Fascinating," the vampire says. "How does this type of enthrallment work? Is it a spell you cast, something you say, a charm activated by eye contact...? And how long do its effects last for before you need to use it again?" - @ask-the-emmettverse
Charles watches the other vampire speak, "Spoken word with intent. I say sit, my pets, thralls or even strangers in the street are compelled to obey, anyone who hears it, but if said to one person they're the only one who's body won't listen when they fight it."
"Silas, being... emotional, often tried to fight. He had horrid headaches, had to starve him so he'd stop."
"Though, my pet's new 'friend'... he responds well to all enthrallment. It's rather cute, I'll be visiting him as much as I can. I'll have to order Silas to enthrall him so he's more pliable, but whatever works."
Silas, tell me more about Charles! Is he one of your thralls? How did you acquire him?
"No, he's my sire..." Silas is visibly uncomfortable, "He has a type of enthrallment that forces the listener to obey so I don't really get to talk poorly of him... I mean, I can, I just have to hope he never hears it."

"His hair is this fluffy light brown and he's so nice... Quinn is determined and as a thrall, he still just does what he wants! It's so endearing... I just like everything about him."

Quinn takes in with wide eyes before Silas runs over and takes it off him.
“So sorry…” he says, examining the blanket for… something? “Ah, okay.” Silas hands the blanket back to Quinn who wraps it over his shoulders with a smile.
Quinn nuzzles into the soft material, humming in appreciation.
After a few hours Quinn asks Silas where it came from and tells Silas to send thanks. He ends up using that blanket a lot :]

Quinn smiles and glances around, "He's... really nice... I like his voice. And..." Quinn makes a wavy movement in the air with his hands, making an hourglass-like shape. "He's also really pretty..." he has a wide goofy grin while thinking about Silas.
(Little bonus, he's hypnotised)
Quinn beams at the mention of his sir. "He-! He is so nice and oh! I love Sir so much..." he looks around and pulls the blankets closer to himself, "I wish he would pet and cuddle me all day..."

Here is a little fun fact about Toby (shouldn't be a spoiler, but just in case);
if we don’t collectively take toby home i need to adopt him. i’m taking him home and spoiling him forever and ever
He would happily cuddle up to you, glad to not have to go back to ring fights, though if he does go into ring fighting under your care he would do anything to be praised and win for you!

Sure thing!
Damien is a combat kitty that can also be a bodyguard, if his owner tells him to attack someone or defend the house, he will. His collar has a remote-zapping function, though the slider on the shock box is for when his owner tells him to shock himself! Being made to punish himself is how he got trained.
As a ring/entertainment fighter, he often wins due to having low self-preservation and high loyalty. Most of his bodily scars are hidden by clothes because he is often sent into the ring shirtless.
He cares a lot about Toby, and every time Toby is returned to the cafe he is there to comfort him with affection and kind words!

(Though, as a combo Damien would be more loyal to Toby then towards you... but Toby would follow your orders! :D)
