absolutely haunted by the sheer raw anguish of mike screaming for el, their last kiss, the most passionate and devastating kiss we’ve seen on the show. they will always be stranger things’ greatest love story and this finale only proved that. el’s “i love you,” both of them crying, mike screaming for her over and over again. “i can’t live without you” “i can’t lose her again” “i can’t lose you”. mike’s one constant throughout every single season was his fear of losing her. his pure desperation begging her not to leave him killed me but showed so beautifully how much he loved her. how much they loved each other. “a love so strong it breaks down dimensional barriers.”

Literally, if El is alive, there's no way Mike won't find her on his own someday. Yes, the Duffer brothers are right when they say El will never contact them again. She wouldn't risk it out of fear of the military catching her one day. But one day, Mike, once he's certain he can dedicate himself to it, will go looking for her. Remember, this is the Mileven relationship:

It's impossible that Mike won't look for her someday, and even less impossible that he won't find her. He's bound to look for her. And above all, he's bound to find her. We saw this guy throughout the show; he has this ability to literally sense Eleven.

yes el and mike deserved better/happier end but their story being kept ambiguous/open-ended kind of mirrors s1 finale where el is presumed dead, but she's alive and mike senses/knows it (sort of like s5 end) and tries to reach out to her, eventually reuniting in s2. but here's the catch, idk what the spinoff is going to be about (it may or may not have a connection to st characters) but just as how mike tried to reach out to el after s1, what if she does the same this time? like it's a theory but he already kinda sensed her twice in the epilogue, once during his conversation with hopper and the other during graduation. it's very subtle but it's there, and even if she doesn't reach out, mike knows about three waterfalls so i do think their paths will likely cross somewhere in the future regardless. because imo s5 finale paralleling s1 finale is quite intentional, hence a future reunion (like the one in s2 but this time away from hawkins) is not implausible considering their love for each other and the fact that mike is unable to move on.

It was an exciting ride of an episode!!

It's so sad to see this show end though. I feel a hole in my heart knowing that there aren't anymore hiatuses and no more episodes to look forward to. I was 20 when I first started this show and now I'm turning 30 this year. All of my 20s were taken up by this beautiful show!!! Thank you to the Duffers for giving us these beautiful characters and this beautiful show!! And thank you to Millie, David, Winona, Finn, Caleb, Gaten, Joe, Sadie, Noah, Priah, Natalia, Charlie, Nell, Maya, Brett, and Cara for embodying these characters so stunningly!!
