max is always prepared to protect herself, but with lucas, she lets herself be protected too.
it’s only a day apart, but the difference in mike is obvious. mike’s rough around the edges with everyone else (quick, defensive, a little closed off). but around el, he lets himself be softer, sillier, easier. like making her happy matters more than how he looks doing it.

Another day of me being on my bullshit and thinking of how at 12 years-old, one of Mike Wheeler’s most traumatic experiences was losing El. And just four years after meeting her, at 16, he helplessly watched her disappear in front of him for the second time in his life.
Top of my list of grievances and things I will never move on from.
Dinner first, then dessert. Always. That’s the rule.
As soon as El’s return is confirmed Season 2, the logical storyline for her and the characters around her irrevocably changes.
The Duffers forget a lot of what they’ve written over the years, but the fact that they emphasized from Season 2 onward that she is, in fact, a child and just as human as the rest of the cast shows how little they understand the fundamentals of storytelling.
And that’s also a fundamental issue with the Duffers as creators. They understand that certain tropes or plot lines work, but they seem to not often understand the how or why. A big reason why Season 1 works is that it’s a pastiche of the classics, and they also struck gold with a phenomenal cast. Season 2 is a natural progression of Season 1, but they clearly didn’t know where to go after.
