The reason they had to this is that apparently the old design of the train caused sonic booms and people living near the tracks were understandably less than thrilled by this.

I want fellow USAmericans to remember this when they talk about how slow trains are for travel. We could have trains that travel at 200 mph that need to look like birds so they don’t create cannon noises when they enter tunnels.
