Celebrate Other People's Successes
Celebrate Other People’s Successes
Sitting in the dark, I read a review that attacked an author more over their success than with the content of the book. Suspicion over how that success came about bordered on slander. How can we do well with what God has given us if we are too focused on jealousy? I have just a few of you that follow my occasional posts. Admittingly, I haven’t put forth enough effort for this blog to enjoy…

Ugly Words Erupt
Ugly words erupted from him via the comment section. Doing good isn’t always met with kindness or love. An unbeliever filled with fear verbally attacked the two of us online. He had legitimate fear, but no belief in God. In fact, he was angry at God at the moment and an angry person in general.  According to him, God took his father’s life. Fear is this man’s default now. So is anger and…

A Field of Flowers #LDS
A Field of Flowers #LDS
via Daily Prompt: Pluck We pulled over because the field of yellow flowers were irresistible. When you are visiting the ocean and driving along the coast in Palos Verdes, you just stop what you are doing to admire the things God has placed in your way. Like these yellow flowers… I couldn’t wait to walk through them and run my fingers through their petals. I had romanticized the field of flowers…

How to Glorify God
How to Glorify God
One article and a response to an interview question doesn’t really give a complete answer. For instance, when I read about the Olympic athlete who talked about the pain of her abortion, the poorly worded article gave a response that is very different from other news sources. My interpretation of the article caused me to believe the person’s wrong choice was perceived by her as glorifying to God.…

Shacking Up is Not CommitmentÂ
I am really curious. Why are you living with your boyfriend/girlfriend? Why are you trying them on like a shoe to see if you both are a fit? There are no guarantees in life. The laws have taken away the benefits of marriage and made shacking up almost equal. We’ve re-made relationships so anything goes. Bottom line? Marriage is honoring to each other and to God. If you claim you are a…

Why Do You Hate Work?
Why Do You Hate Work?
S.M. was complaining the other day of people who don’t want to work. I can see why people are complaining about millennials. They want higher pay for little productivity and even less experience. Not all millennials, mind you. Just a lot of them. Each time he talks about millennials, I am reminded of that scene in Office Space. The main character hates his job and wants a job doing nothing. I…

A Joke in Poor Taste
She shared the joke on Facebook. I laughed until I got to the part where it included Mormonism in the definition of Christian. My impulse was to comment on this. Then, I recalled that my family was on my Facebook list and Facebook shows all your activity to your friends. While I pounded the delete button with my index finger in frustration, I also knew the person who posted the joke would get…

Relationships Matter
She sat across from me, looking down at her fingers, her hair hanging around her face. The full volume of her story poured out in tears and words that cut through my “strictly business” demeanor. I wanted to cry, too. We worked together. We talked often. Now I am at a new job and we connect only online.  But it’s not the same. Sometimes, it’s nice to sit across from someone and see their facial…

Recent Requests
While praying over the continuance of my Life Group, I saw a few people ask to join the Google+ group. Most of which weren’t seekers or people genuinely wishing to connect and learn about Jesus, but spammers or people who wish to debate.
As far as I am concerned, debate is not a reason for joining a group. Someone once described social media as a “noisy marketplace.” I don’t know about you, but I…

No Life Group Until 2018
No Life Group Until 2018
My new job change has necessitated this change. We are in a busy season of our lives. I want to continue blogging and talking to you, but I need to work through this busy season so I can invest in Life Church’s Life Group program next year.
Plus, they’ve changed how they do Life Groups. Because I am not on Facebook, I can’t join their Facebook Group. I do encourage you to join though.
Meanwhile,…

Humans are Terrible
That’s the conclusion I came to this week. The week has challenged me as a Christian. It’s a, “Jesus come quickly,” kind of week. People carry their baggage around their necks like medals. Their needs are more important than another person’s and everything is demanded right now.
What’s far more difficult is seeing an atheist get a version of Christianity that is the exception not the rule. I…

You are Not Lost
You are Not Lost
I took the wrong path on my walk yesterday. The wet winter caused the trail to become overgrown after the snow melted. Others had lost their way, too, carving out a new trail down towards the creek and across it. When the snows melted, the trail appeared to split. I chose to take the split not realizing it would dead end a mile into the trail.Â
Footprints in the dirt show people turning around.…

Surrender Not Self-Reliance
Sitting in traffic with my eyes squinting against the glare of the chrome bumper in front of me, I am reminded once again of my lack of control of circmstances around me. My window is rolled down and I feel the heat rise from the asphalt. The seconds are ticking by and my anxiety is rising.Â
I waited til the last minute to leave again. Ten minutes from my destination and I am stuck five cars…

Forgive Yourself #LDS #Christian
Forgive Yourself #LDSÂ #Christian
Sure, you did something wrong.
You even hate yourself for it.
You relive it over and over and over and over again.
Somehow, it doesn’t make you feel any better.
You’ve apologized.
You’ve sent gifts.
You’ve sent guilt gifts and spent “guilt” time with them.
Nothing absolves you.
Yin Yang and Karma would have us believe doing more good will offset the bad.
You keep doing more good things.
But even…

My Little Window
I changed offices.Â
My new office has a window on the second story. When I crack open the blinds, I can watch people take their lunch breaks, the snow fall like feathers from the sky, or see Spring blossom. This gives me a beautiful breather as I sift through piles of paperwork.Â
Escape isn’t always stepping outside or getting in your car, but gazing out a window and imagining where you could be…
