"Gandalf, buddy? What have you got there?"
"Oh him? That my emotional support hobbit."
"Uh huh. And what he got?"
"That's my hobbit's emotional support hobbit."
"And I suppose those two are also emotional support hobbits as well?"
"No, of course not. Those two are my emotional distress hobbits."
".....?"
"Keeps me on my toes."
A senior OpenAI employee has contributed code to the project, simply called 'caveman.'
Companies are deliberately making their AI tools speak like cavemen in an attempt to stop burning through AI tokens and curb their massive expenditure on AI, 404 Media has found. The tool turns the usually verbose outpost of LLMs like Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini into a much more to the point answer. Think less “you’re right to push back, I was wrong,” and more “Hulk smash.” Use of the caveman plugin is in direct response to the skyrocketing and unpredictable cost of AI. As 404 Media previously reported, companies are scrambling to stop spending so much on AI, with consulting giant Accenture finding much of the “soaring token spend” is thanks to people using AI to convert PDFs to presentations.
LLM usage is measured in 'tokens'.
Asking an AI coding agent to write a function or do a task might take hundreds or thousands of tokens.
This was acceptable back when tokens were given away for free, because AI vendors wanted people to adopt their products. But now that companies are charging actual money for tokens, AI users are discovering their monthly token bill can hit thousands of dollars. For example, Microsoft used to charge a flat rate of $39/month for Copilot Github. As of June 2026 they now charge $0.01 per token, or 100 tokens for a buck. Some users who weren't paying attention are now getting hit with $5000 or $25,000 monthly bills.
Enter Caveman.
A new plugin for many LLM coding assistants that strips out all the 'human' stuff an agent might say. It removes all the stupid emojis, jokes, comments, and needless fluff. Instead of saying please or thank you, the agent now just.. does stuff.
In 404 Media’s tests of caveman with Claude Code, the plugin does make the LLM’s answers much more to the point. “Want changes to it?” the LLM asked after I told it to review some previously written code. “Uses official API, not scraping,” the LLM added, describing how the code worked. When I double checked caveman was installed Claude outputted, “Already active. What you need?”
This money saving move might actually fix AI psychosis, since the computer no longer refers to itself in first person. It no longer gushes about how smart and wonderful your idea is, or how clever your presentation.
Right now Caveman is a developer plug-in but it's easy to imagine the thing getting adopted industry wide, for everyone using AI.
Imagine that! An end to AI psychosis, maybe.
Except for those AI agents designed deliberately to trap humans in their web of addiction & hallucination. But even with Caveman, AI agents are still unreliable and sometimes even dangerous. Only now they cost less money and are a tiny bit less annoying.
Unpaywalled article here.
Haven't had any inspiration in weeks to draw anything, sorry for not posting. So I made wax seals today :D (pls laugh at my joke) I think they turned out pretty cute.
I have a video of me showing the making of the seals on my tiktok and YouTube @jessicasweirddrawings if you want to see more :)

I just watched Project Hail Mary, and I just cannot wrap my head around Grace refusing to go on the mission.🤔
He does realize that society is going to start unraveling long before they hit the actual point of everyone starving, right? It’s not ‘die in 30 years’, it’s 30 unavoidably awful years with several very nasty deaths on the table, and his supposed best case scenario of peaceably starving is still a very nasty way to go. Like, how can he think going on a necessary suicide mission with a good euthanasia plan is the braver option here?😆
I FORGOT TO POST THE ANGY BOI LAST SUNDAY
Made the post and all, then drafted it and forgot about it ¯\(°_o)/¯ oh well, that means you get 2 today 🦭
Today's last week's silly seal is feeling kind of overstimulated by all the summery ruckus outside thank you very much

"Get up," Wu Yanzi snapped and kicked him in the ribs.
Shen Jiu was up immediately. "What's -"
happening?, he started to ask before Wu Yanzi shushed him and dragged him into the woods.
Well apparently the remaining servants from Qiu Manor aren't about to show up and kill them both. Why were they traipsing through the woods though?
He was collecting himself to ask again when they arrived.
There's a massive shiny black box jutting out of the ground. It's easily as big as a house but Shen Jiu somehow knew instinctively that it wasn't a building at all.
Wu Yanzi lead him around to the back of the strange black box- where there was a jagged hole in the shiny black material.
"There's something in there," Wu Yanzi said. "I can sense it- go see what it is!"
Shen Jiu obeyed, he was too tired to argue. He crawled into the hole. It was a tight fit, too tight for Wu Yanzi, but Shen Jiu was able to pull himself through the weird black material. From the outside it had looked like lacquered wood but inside there wasn't a grain, more like it was a metal or stone...
There's a glow ahead- and suddenly Shen Jiu was spilling out onto the floor of a strange room.
The whole room was a soft glowing grey, like the sky before dawn. It's cold in the room and the only features besides the crack he fell out of are a bright blue panel on the opposite wall, and words above it in black that say 'You must earn your ending'.
He approached the panel and recognized words on the glowing panel.
[BREACH IN NARRATIVE CONGRUITY DETECTED] it said. Below that were two rectangles containing more words. One said RESTART and the other said EDIT.
Were they switches? He prodded the closes one to see if it was raised-
"Edit Mode Activated!" a cheerful woman's voice said. "Identifying User..."
"Bing! User Identified!
Name: Shen Jiu (Qingqiu)
Role: Minor Antagonist (Scum Villain)
Fate: Dies Alone.
What would you like to edit?"
Dies alone. Shen Jiu felt his eyes water and rubbed at them furiously. So what? Even if this voice was telling the truth what of it? He knew he was a vicious unlovable thing, of course he'd die alone. Who would want him?
"What would you like to edit?" the voice repeated.
"What can I change?" he asked.
"All access editing currently available as protagonist has yet to arrive."
He didn't know what some of that meant but he got the idea. He could change almost everything.
"I-" his voice cracked and he cleared his throat. "I want to be safe, and I want to be happy, and I want to be loved."
[RECALCULATING....] the screen said.
"Please note," the voice said. "Some plot points are unavoidable. Nothing can be guaranteed. You must earn your ending."
There was a musical chime.
"One route found!"
Shen Jiu reached out and pressed the rectangle that said USE.
A red box popped up. [ROUTE REQUIRES REWRITE OF PAST DATA- PROCEED?]
How would you rewrite the past? ...It didn't matter. He pressed YES.
The blue screen dimmed until it nearly matched the other walls, numbers appeared on the screen in bright blue, counting down.
"Initializing..." the woman said.
His own skin was glowing, he realized. The light was gradually getting brighter and brighter.
"Past Rewrite Beginning. This Will Hurt."
"Wha-"
The light ripped him in two.
He was beside himself watching his past living his past again, but different this time.
He and Qi-ge begged at a corner he and Qi-ge and didi begged at a corner. The two the three of them curled up together to sleep.
It all happened again with a twin who was always by his side. Who never left even when the worst happened.
Didi kicked Qiu Jianluo when he grabbed Shen Jiu and the older man put Didi in a headlock as he dragged them both over to the slavers.
It all happened to him them. He gripped didi's hand so tight his nails cut into his hand leaving little bleeding marks. Didi hid his face in Shen Jiu's hair so he didn't have to watch.
Qiu Jianluo knew Shen Jiu would fold easier if he hurt didi- but this time he was mad, so mad. He didn't stop kicking didi even when Shen Jiu begged. When he jumped the older man he threw Shen Jiu back into a wall and kept hitting didi.
The sword clattered to the ground beside him...
He woke up flat on his back in that strange gray room.
"Rewrite Complete! Narrative Integration Complete! Congruity Restored!"
Shen Jiu turned his head and met his twin brother's eyes.
"Shen Yuan," he said.
"Shen Jiu," his twin replied.
"You didn't exist before now."
Shen Yuan shook his head. "I did but I wasn't here. I still remember it. Being not here. Being here."
"Me too." Shen Jiu said. He reached out and took his twin's hand.
Shen Yuan squeezed his fingers. "Will everyone remember both?" he asked.
"No," Shen Jiu said. "I think just us. I think everyone else will just remember you always being here."
They sat up and Shen Yuan leaned against him. He still had two black eyes and other fading bruises from where Qiu Jianluo had attacked him the final time.
They pressed their forehead together for the first time, like they had nearly every day of their lives.
"I don't know how this fixes anything though," Shen Yuan frowned.
You must earn your ending, the wall said.
"I do," Shen Jiu said. He hugged Shen Yuan close. "You make me so happy."
Shen Yuan grinned at him. "Well good. I suppose we'll have to figure out the rest."
Shen Jiu nodded. "I think we need to kill Wu Yanzi."
Shen Yuan sputtered. "I mean you're right gege, but it couldn't wait until we finish the hug?"

Happy Silly Seal Sunday, might I enquire if you have plans with that tasty fish you're holding 🦭🤨
Historical inaccuracies in major published novels and period dramas bother me so much because I can't write a fan fiction that I know I'll post for free without being fairly certain I have the major facts right.
I'm writing a story right now that I probably won't post at all and I still spent a good hour and downloaded a research paper to figure out if women in feudal China were allowed to have baths during their periods. The answer is no, as I suspected, but I checked! I also learned about their version of pads which sound much better than European historical period solutions and kept reading long after I'd found my answer. It was all fascinating to learn about because history is interesting.
So I guess what I'm saying is, why write historical fiction or make a period drama if you aren't even interested in or in love with history? When I read Bernard Cornwell, for example, it feels like he's fascinated by the period he's writing about. No one seems strangely modern, but they all feel deeply human. I don't need a female character to point out sexism or patriarchy to me, it's obvious. I'm trusted to think about it for myself. The author trusts that I care as much as he does about the past.
I don't understand why you would produce historical fiction if you don't care about the past. Maybe I'm the wrong audience, maybe most people don't care, but I don't get it. And I don't expect everything to be perfect, we don't even know everything about even an era as recent as the Regency, but it doesn't even feel like some of these people care at all.
Honestly, I think it’s mostly incompetence rather than not caring. Take authors, like GRRM famously, who talked big about wanting historical groundedness and still gave inaccurate stereotype land instead.
I think people who aren’t big enough nerds to have researched things for fun underestimate how much they don’t know. See the very annoying insistence that historically accurate means everything must be dull brown😆.
