i genuinely love that the way k.a applegate resolves the issue of needing the alien on the team to be able to drop plot crumbs without totally solving everything for the human kids is by making aximili-esgarrouth-isthill a jock who only tangentially paid attention to when his teachers were explaining, like, the andalite equivalent of how to find the cosine of a triangle, and now he's in an astronomically rare circumstance where the fate of an entire species depends on him remembering how to do that. and he's cold sweating trying to recall the answers to homework problems he didn't do. and also he's always lying.
ax is literally experiencing like if you got teleported back several hundred years and everyone was expecting you to explain the precise mechanisms of how cell phones work to them and if you don't come up with a sufficient explanation they're all going to die. And he's not enjoying it.
every day this happens to ax
My favorite was when Ax had a horrible infection in one of his glands and they figure they have to remove it, so they ask him "Where is the Tria gland?" and Ax, who's delirious by this point, literally complains "You said we wouldn't have to know the glands for this test!"
Just wondering why you hate Israel so much. Do you not think Israel has the right to exist?
You’re wondering why I hate a settler-colonial state that is ethnically cleansing a group of people through violence and a racist legal system? Would you like me to apologize for not being ethically/morally bankrupt? Would you like to ask me why I’m against war crimes and human right violations too?
"Does Israel have the right to exist?” is an intentionally vague and tricky question. The full question is:
“Does Israel have the right to exist at the cost of Palestinian lives” and the answer is NO
Israel does not have the right to ethnic cleansing, settler-colonial displacement, discriminatory legislation, human rights violations, and war crimes.
portal turrets were so ahead of their time actually because they’re autistic lil robogirlies who are ever so slightly chuuni and they’re adorable and polite and even though they could kill you in 10 seconds they’re incredible instant-lossbait and they go ahahaha >:3c and aaaa-auuu D: and awawawawa @_@ and other such noises
to everyone tagging this with stuff like “gender” or “THIS IS SO ME” or “i want to be a portal turret so bad”: you’re cutes
hey girl awesome pussy. it looks like it was expensive

[sweating and taking notes] hey girl awesome pussy. it looks nuanced and complicated
GUYS PIRATING IS BAD.
DO NOT PIRATE ANYTHING. NOT SHOWS/MOVIES. NOT GAMES OR SAFER GAMES. AND CERTAINLY NOT BOOKS. AND DO NOT DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS. AND NEVER EVER EVER WATCH MUSICALS WITHOUT GOING TO THEM AND DONT USE ADBLOCKERS/OTHER ADBLOCKER TO AVOID ADS AND VIRUSES PIRATING IS VERY HARMFUL TO THE CORPORATIONS WHO WORKS VERY HARD TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE AND THEIR MONEY. ANYONE WHO PIRATES IS BAD. BAD PIRATING. EVIL. OH AND THIS
having institutional access never stops feeling sort of crazy to me because you can literally type in any country and time period and find at least a handful of peer reviewed articles somewhere that discuss a specific aspect of people's lives in depth and at length like "what was considered pop culture in late imperial russia" or "how did the textile trade work in northern mali in the 1600s" or "children's toys in pre-colonial philippines" and it's just sitting there but the majority of people on planet earth aren't allowed to read any of it
“these characters are sibling coded” the word you’re looking for is friends
“sibling coded” is such a deeply annoying fan-terminology because it’s so transparently an attempt to preemptively problematize a ship dynamic they have no other salient criticism for. just weak ass nonsense.
At some point, fandom forgot how to say "I just like them better as friends, personally!" and started feeling like we needed a Morally Correct Reason to not like a ship.
So if two characters obviously care a lot about each other and are a big part of each other's lives, but the idea of them having sex doesn't appeal to you, it's become fashionable to slap this "sibling-coded" label onto them.
"Siblings" in this case is just shorthand for "yeah, I admit that they care about each other very much, but they should definitely never ever EVER fuck, ick ew yuck blegh no". But it absolves you from feeling like a hater, or having to explain specifically why the ship doesn't appeal to you. Because you can couch it in this stance of found-family wholesomeness instead, and feel like you've got the moral high ground.
You're not the bad guy for hating on someone else's OTP — they're the bad guy for shipping "siblings" together. ✨ /s
The first post made me go "but sibling level friendships are an extra level, why would you find that ann--"
The rest made me go "...oh. Of fucking course."
I don't remember this being a thing when I was in the fandom trenches years ago. Other Fandom Olds, is this a new phenomenon, or was I just lucky enough to not encounter it?
I feel like there's always been a certain amount of "I think they act like siblings more than romantic partners" but that was a specific concept before, like now it's just "they get along but I don't want them to kiss or fuck=siblings"
When you’re busy 🫐
Accept that exercise needs to be a non-negotiable part of your life.
Eat sufficient protein at every meal. Not because it’s currently a buzzword, but because you should have always been doing that and need to keep it up even when a new food group inevitably trends.
Walk whenever you can. Calls, errands, waiting, etc.
You deserve proper rest even if you didn’t get everything done.
Keep healthy staples on autopilot and easily accessible. Things that don’t need to be cooked, 5 minute meals, snacks you can toss in your bag, etc.
Water before and after caffeine.
Ten minutes of movement beats zero.
Batch cook once, eat well all week. If not full meals then whatever key ingredients you can.
Protect your mornings from chaos. Let them be as absolutely slow as your responsibilities allow it to be.
Train for health, strength, and longevity as your top priority. You don’t have to strive for a specific visual outcome.
Stretch, even if it’s while you wait for your pot of water to boil or are letting the bathtub fill up.
Limit liquid calories.
Create a simple, repeatable routine.
Book checkups before there’s a problem.
Remember: being busy is not a reason to abandon healthy habits. It’s just time to rework them.
I like when fic length/book length/movie length is its own punchline
characters: Ah, I'm so glad that's all over now :). But luckily that's done and dealt with and we can all resume our normal lives now :)
fic length: Chapter 9 out of 48
Odysseus: Thank you for the concern, but brother, I can assure you Our journey is almost done.

the more time you spend in active recovery from any given self destructive behavior or addiction the more you understand the common conception of the "relapse" as defined by a broken "streak" to be, like, so bad for one's own well-being that it would be funny if it weren't resulting in just a lot of misery and death
I told my girlfriend to think of quitting vaping as training her endurance by seeing how long she can run before she gets tired, then doing it again and hoping to go further next time. She said it really helped her.
This is the stages of change model, with each circle being a part of the process of growth. You'll notice how relapse is not a failing of the model, or a set back, but an active step in continuing to grow and change. Everytime you relapse, you learn something; maybe a certain time of year is difficult for you. Maybe certain people push you back into the habit. Maybe your other coping skills/replacement habits didn't work how you wanted and you need to strengthen them, or develop new ones. Maybe it's not quite as clear cut and you need to spend the time figuring out what exactly went wrong so you can catch it next time. It doesn't matter the exact lesson, but it's part of the process.
