Sesame Street has Rosita (a green Mexican American resident of Sesame Street) on here talking about how all books she has to read about Mexican people are exactly the same. Sheās like āthey are always taking a rest by a cactus with a donkey and a sombreroā (she said it in Spanish!!!) and that theyāre stereotyping Mexican people and not reflective of their real experiences. She said āthereās so much more to being Mexican!ā and now sheās about to write her own story āMe Amigita Rositaā!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they have an Afro-Latino guy talking to her about it and helping her! Sesame Street is so fucking good!!!!!!!!
New research shows works by writers such as Charles Dickens and TĆ©a Obreht sharpen our ability to understand othersā emotions ā more than thrillers or romance novels

You're Older Than the Internet?
I stand by the fact that nothing will make you feel ancient at the age of 30 like working with the under twelve population. These kids simply canāt fathom how old I am and what being a kid was like way back in the *gasp* nineties. These conversations often take the form of the following homework interaction.
10 year old: Miss Ellie I Googled it but nothing came up. Iām just going to tell my teacher I couldnāt find anything.
Me: Let me help you search and if we canāt find it onlineĀ weāll just have to use the encycolopedia.
10YO: [blank stare]
Me: You know, when I was your age I couldnāt use Google to do my homework.
10YO: Did your parents take your internet away?
Me: No, we didnāt have internet.
10YO: So like where did you go if you needed to use Google?
Me: Nowhere. There was no Google. It didnāt exist yet.
10YO: YOUāRE OLDER THAN THE INTERNET?!?
Good, Not
4-year-old [regretfully]: āMiss Ann, I donāt think we will be coming to story time much anymore.ā
Me: āOh really? Why?ā
4-year-old [sighing]: āWell, the snacks arenāt good.ā
Me: āWe donāt have snacks at story time!ā
4-year-old: āI know and thatās not good.ā
