I’m just thinking about how taylor is an artist who pulls inspiration from her own life which means she’s constantly pulling threads and thinking about events in different ways and noticing themes and writing about them from different perspectives so of course she’s developed motifs that are so *her* but instead of acknowledging her growth as an artist and the genius it takes to be able to do that and not have it just feel recycled fans just make tik toks about how she’s been planning her albums years and years ahead of time and make everything an egg

it strikes me that reputation and folklore are both written in lowercase and have black and white aesthetics. but while reputation was an album about taylor dealing with the reputation that the world had created for her, folklore is an album that’s about her creating her own stories, not only about herself but also about other people and things that she’s never personally experienced. it’s like reputation was the stories that the world told about her and who she was, and now she’s kind of turning it around and creating her own stories, her own folklore. in this essay i will—

In isolation my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness. Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve. Now it’s up to you to pass them down. folklore is out now.
