Once i read all of golden age and silver age and bronze age and pre-crisis in general and post crisis and new52 and rebirth and all the different events and crossovers and learn all of the writers’ histories so i am aware of their biases and influences when creating those stories and familiarise myself with the cultural/social/political climate of when those comics were written to be able to understand and analyse them well from both a watsonian and doylist perspective it’s over for you all

its difficult having a favorite character who you have absolutely no attraction to but a lot of other people do. i love him. not like that. i dont even like him i hate him actually. hes just really important to me. Not like that. he lives in my brain. No not like that. hes just there and i think about him a lot. hes disgusting and i hate him. hes very fascinating to me. i understand him. hes not sexy at all though. a lot of people say that and i disagree but to each their own. hes my favorite and i want to kill him

stop. analyse that text through the lens of its author's intentions and original historical context. okay now take the author out back and kill them dead and analyse that text as though it were published by your mutual yesterday and is in direct conversation with the contemporary discourse that's most relevant to your life. okay now pick your favorite angle of interpretation and come up with the strongest possible argument against it. now imagine that the text is your best friend and that it means you well and that you naturally give it every benefit of the doubt because you're on its side and you want the best for it. now imagine that the text wants you dead and it'll eat you if you don't eat it first. now pretend that you found this text locked away in a cave with no evidence of when or where it came from and you have to divine its meaning solely through its internal coherence and nothing else. okay now address the elephant in the room aspect of the text you've been ignoring because you find it boring or confusing or uncomfortable and become the number one expert on it. now spend forty minutes assigning all the characters dnd classes with at least three sentences of reasoning each. okay now do the cha cha slide.

thinking about his most replayed memory in the paradise dimension being his 9th birthday, and the chocolate cake he got to eat during it. thinking about prime escaping and still not getting to sit down and eat with someone for years because he was stuck in prison, alone. thinking about how even when prime got back to a fake version of his parents at the end of countdown, they were terrified of him and he ate all his meals isolated in his basement.

so right about the idea that he’s forgotten how to be a Real Person. it’s even juicier when you pair it with the fact that he thinks he still is one, at least in comparison to the “characters” around him. it’s like he doesn’t even realize the contradiction, or he’s too good at burying it all beneath meta jokes and a flippant attitude to care.

i just really think any acknowledgment on his part of the Horrors he’s been through and his uniquely isolating existence as someone who can moonlight as a fictional character while still firmly believing he himself ISN’T fictional would… break him? or probably not break him, but he wouldn’t handle it well, i think, and that might be why he chooses not to think about it at all.

so many cool things to talk about with prime uueueue he has So Much Going On. truly a themes and such character of all time…
