Everyone has these weird hyper-specific things that annoy them a little when they have to stay over at a place Not Home, right. I don't mean "WOW they keep the thermostat high" or "dude that window's broken, I can see someone staring at us". I mean the really dumb shit.

Mine's the plague of the Slightly Thinner Bath Towel.

The Slightly Thinner Bath Towel is, as the name suggests, slightly thinner than the ones I use. It's also apparently in everyone's house, everywhere, in at least seven countries, either solely to haunt me or a gigantic conspiracy.

The monstrosity necessitates about 20 seconds of extra drying, but that's not the fucked up part.

No, the fucked up part is the small line of moisture between my shoulder blades that a Slightly Thicker Bath Towel wouldn't leave and that I always forget about until about a half second after my shirt's on.

Unfortunately once I make a commitment to that I will, sadly, discover that I am also in possession of a Slightly Thinner Bath Towel.

I'll throw it out, and then next time I take a shower I will indeed, once more, discover that my bath towel is now Slightly Thinner.

I'll burn it, and then the next time I take a shower things will proceed normally.

When I lay down to sleep, things will appear normal. As I start to drift off with the falling feeling, my toes will brush against something that feels like it hasn't seen fabric softener in its existence and my trimmed toenails are inexplicably collecting lint just from a light touch.

I'll jump awake, lift my sheets, and there it is: sitting there being Slightly Thinner.

I will scream, consigned to my own Hell.
