Dear Minato,

I suppose you're wondering why I've written a letter to you, huh? 'Spose it makes no sense to you, 'cause I'm not exactly known for my beautifully written letters and all. I get it. But there are things that I just can't say to your face and that has been building up in my heart and mind for so long. I need to express it somehow, even if it's in a letter. Words don't come easy to me, so don't expect it to make sense, yeah?

I hate being alive. You and Mada make it just about bearable on bad days but I can't sit here and lie; saying that I've never imagined taking my own life. I sometimes have these dark thoughts where I imagine you two shrugging my death off and continuing your lives with me like a distant memory- it's unlikely I know but that sense of dread is always looming. I'm so tired of suffering through each day feeling like shit, it's just... exhausting.

I don't suppose you quite understand what losing every single person closest to you, your entire clan and even your own freedom does to a person. It shatters their very being, tears them apart and ruins them. That's why when Mada lost the Uchiha- I spent every night watching over you two; because that agony he was going through was familiar to me. I wanted to protect him and you, even if you two don't need it.

Then there's the ever-present feeling of inadequacy that seems to be a constant for me... Heh. You know, I'm jealous. You both seem like you have no need for me... You have your purpose and Mada has his but what's mine? What the Hell do I bring to this damned relationship? I love you both, so very much but I can't help but wonder if I even belong. Would you two be better off without me? Without a third person to ruin everything?

I feel so pathetically weak compared to you two, you're both so strong and neither of you is seen as a monster like I am. I'm not respected when I'm alone. Around you two, I am but the second that you're both not by me... Well, let's just say that if I was weaker-minded then there'd be a lot more corpses around... It's just... It makes me feel like all I'm good for is producing children and making dinner- being a meek little housewife whose only purpose is to sit on the sidelines and wait until I'm needed.

I want you to understand, though, that this isn't your doing. It's not your fault, it's mine. My mind isn't the same as yours, you're just so much stronger than me, braver than me...

The letter cuts off there, never finished and scrunched up haphazardly- buried under other papers and various clutter on his desk.

“Hm, that didn’t go as badly as I thought it would.” Minato had just finished speaking with the delegation of Jonin regarding some matters of the barely resolved Third War, leaned against a wall with his foot propped against it. Kushina’s bright, red locks stood out in her charming high ponytail, smiling at the sight of their wife. She always was beautiful no matter her condition.

“He’s getting better at public speaking, eh?”

Kushina was a little battered, as would be expected of someone who had just come out of a warzone, and was still paranoid. She had watched the proceedings like a damned hawk, intent to watch over Minato and make sure that no one tried anything funny. When Madara spoke, she turns her head slightly to look at him before looking back at their husband- who was trying his very best to leave the onslaught of people who had rushed over to talk to him.

"For sure. I remember when he could barely go two minutes without going off on some tangent or stuttering to a stop. It just proves how much that war changed everyone, eh?"

"I Am Not A Queen To Be Messed With, My Dear."

Lesser fools have tried to in the past- win the heart of the elusive Emerald Queen of Uzushio. All failed. She is brash and cold, yet not entitled. She understands her power and only seeks to make a strong alliance for her people while finding a husband whom she loves. With hair as vibrant a red as the fur of the Crimson Fox, she earned the name the Fox Queen. Her eyes are glittering indigo with flecks of blue and deep royal purple, her skin as white as snow. She is a great beauty, lusted after by every man and envied by every woman. Her beauty is ethereal and otherwordly, attracting the attention of every suitor in the world who seek to make her their bride and secure power in her kingdom. Few men have caught her attention as much as one Royal Knight, Minato Namikaze. He serves under the banner of one Hiruzen Sarutobi and is rumoured to be the next heir to the throne of Konoha. He is kind and strong, his attractiveness matching that of the Queen that he secretly pines for. Kushina seeks to find a man who takes her breath away as much as that man does, as she knows that she may not have him for herself. Yet, her attention is divided. She has also had her breath stolen by the charming and mysterious Madara Uchiha, Lord of House Uchiha. He flattered her on his very first audience with her and was the first to break the reclusive Queen out of her serious shell, making her smile at him. Kushina is enamoured with him for much the same reason as she is Minato. He is a much more desired match for the Queen, even though she herself knows that his attention is also divided between herself and the blonde Knight. While their looks are a bonus, Kushina wishes to get to know them so she can understand them. There is a part of her that wonders what her people would say if she took them both as her lovers, yet married neither. The Queen often drifts off into daydreams, imagining her life with them by her side- their children running through the Royal Gardens and being able to grow old with them. There are mere fantasies however and she knows this, deeply saddened to wake in the morning alone in her bed and without their warmth by her side. Her love life aside, the Queen is an adept ruler who has seen the passing of many wars and who has overseen the victories of those wars. She's a warrior Queen who wouldn't hesitate to ride into battle alongside her men if it encouraged them to fight with all their strength. She is compassionate, caring for her poorer subjects and opening numerous educational institutes to encourage their minds. While her people see her as benevolent, there are some in the upper echelons of society who seek to overthrow her and seize the power of her kingdom.

Her view is short lived, being impaired by the golden shimmer on his feathered wings when they're wrapped on either side of her. The angel remains behind her, wary of her unbridled rage. Few can survive such an attack from a demon of her ranks, but an angel can quell the beast. His wings provide a cage to hold her when stretched around their frames and his hands rest at her sides. "Be still, for I am here." He whispers. He knows not if his voice is heard, but the soft air brushes over the rim of her ear. A hand lifts to carefully stroke fingers through long red strands. "What are you to do, shall I not be here?"

Sometimes, the demon found herself wondering if her lover would ever not try to scare her like he does. Turning her head slightly upon seeing those familiar wings and his scent invading her nose, she grins. He was lucky that he caught her in a good mood this morning, a rare thing indeed. Her normal temperament could only be described as unhinged and feral, someone who thrives on the suffering of others and who snaps into a rage at any slight to her person.

His question has her laughing, though it's not a sound that few would wish to hear- sending a dark shiver up the spines of those not used to the demonic forces she has dominion over. She reaches behind herself and grabs a fistful of golden locks, yanking him down so she can look into glowing sapphire eyes. "So full of yourself," She murmurs, voice a dark purr, "You act as though your the only thing I have in this hellhole."

She turns sharply and stands in a fluid motion, glad for the privacy that her chambers allow. A quick shove and a kick to his ankles have him on the floor, the demon sat upon his stomach as she looks down on her vulnerable prey. This was their game, it always was. Leaning down over him slowly- being sure to press herself against him in every way she can- she presses her blade to his throat as she leaned in to capture his lips in a searing kiss.

Their love was forbidden, exciting. He was an angel, she a demon. They could not be together publicly, it would get them both killed. She knew that he didn't want to defile himself because of her but he had been drawn in like every other lover she'd ever had; by her voice, her hair, her eyes. It wasn't hard to see how he fell for the demon initially- but why he stayed perplexed her. If he knew that he couldn't be with her, why bother? Still, she wasn't going to complain. For better or for worse, he was hers and she wasn't about to let him go.
