It was a cold a windy day, the clouds were rolling in fast and we still managed to pull off this shoot! We wrapped the entire shoot in around an hour. Wish I had a little more time with the Walsh family but we ended up getting rained out. Thanks again for letting me be a part of your day guys!!!

THE POIRIER-ROBERTSON FAMILY

Karen and I had been trying to organize this shoot for the last month or so but either weather or sickness had thwarted every attempt. I am very thankful we managed to get it done before the weather got too bad.

We arrived at their beautiful property and immediately felt welcome. It was a little chilly that day but Karen was a wonderful host, offering up hot chocolate and coffee and even a muffin for my little helper (son) Wyatt. We started by gathering up some leaves to toss around. I am a big fan of lighting an area and getting a family to just be a family.

Seeing Karen and Drew interact with their children was a pleasure.

We decided to switch up our location and I caught a glimpse of these amazing flowers.

We ended shooting some cool portraits on a big pile of wood that was calling to me.

Catherine and Mario

Catherine and Mario got married awhile back but decided they wanted to do another photoshoot celebrating their love. Not just their love for each other but their love for CAVEMAN STRONG. Catherine and Mario have together lost over 130lbs since they started their journey improving their health. That is just a number though, they are stronger and can move better than ever. In speaking, it became very clear that the gym was more than a place you go because you have to for them. It has become the nucleus of their new life. They get stronger and move better every day. There is magic in being able to do things with your body that you could not a week prior. Mario discovered the ability to get inverted recently so we had some fun on the rings and on our hands.

It was an absolute honor to be chosen to capture these unique memories for them.

THE ONLY THING MORE EVIDENT THAN THE HARD WORK YOU BOTH HAVE PUT IN IS YOUR LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER. CONTINUED LOVE AND SUCCESS CATHERINE AND MARIO!!

How I started shooting.

I get asked pretty often how and why I started shooting and I thought I would put it out there. This was one of the first photos I took with the 4mp camera. I actually still love this shot. :)

I have now been shooting for 4 years! I bought my first DSLR (rebel XSI) in 2009. My son was 2 years old and my 4 MP point and shoot stopped working. That was the catalyst. The next day I went down to Sears looking for a camera. I don't think I had even ever purchased one in my life. I stumbled across this Canon camera with a whopping 12 megapixels....that's 3 TIMES AS MANY AS OUR OLD CAMERA!!!! I called my lady and used that line to convince her to let me buy it. "Memories will last a lifetime with this in HD." lol I took one shot of my son and got my first glimpse of a blurry background and thought I was something special. I looked at Jen (my lady) and told her that I bet I could become a professional. Of course we laughed. (The first photo)

Later that night I was thinking about it and told her that I was serious, I think I could really learn how to take pictures. At this point I knew how to cut things out in photoshop and how to do a weird diffused glow thing. Here are a few examples of the extent of my early photoshop work.

I had my mind set on this. I started taking 2 or 3 books a week out from the library on various related topics ranging from old Hollywood lighting in movies to lightroom. Funny thing is one of the most valuable and overlooked resources is the cameras manual, which I eventually read. ;) I also started consuming every bit of information I could find on the internet. I spent countless hours with very little sleep over the following months barely taking any pictures but learning all I could.

I then did my first photoshoot for a friend and posted them on Facebook. I started getting messages almost immediately asking how much I charge. TERRIFYING!!!! This is where the crazy journey to find my style began. From Ambient light to HDR, to learning lighting and everywhere in between.

HERE ARE SOME RANDOM SHOTS THROUGHOUT THE JOURNEY. SOME OF THESE SHOTS ARE NOT THE GREATEST BUT I THINK YOU CAN STILL SEE ELEMENTS OF THEM IN MY WORK TODAY.

I HAVE MANY MANY WORSE SHOTS THAT I HAVE ON AN OLD HARD DRIVE SOMEWHERE FROM THE SAME TIME PERIOD BUT YOU GET THE POINT.

Guy and Charlie Wedding

I have to say that when I got the call from Guy and Charlie to shoot their wedding I was very excited! I had the pleasure of getting to know both Guy and Charlie while shooting for their amazing and unique business Neo Vintage Furniture. (PLUG!!) Needless to say, the details at their wedding were right up my alley.

Their wedding was very relaxed with both Guy and Charlie wearing traditional Indian Kurtas. (I can't understand why men would wear anything but in the summer, haha) They both looked wonderful! As is slowly becoming the norm, I shot the posed photos prior to the ceremony. I assumed that they would be nervous and distracted and feared it may impact the photos. I believe the complete opposite happened. The anticipation and love was palpable and that translated into many intimate and loving photos.

(For the photo nerds all of the above photos were taken with the Canon 60D and 50mm 1.8 in ambient light) Here are a few more shots from our posed session.

LOVE IS LOVE IS LOVE.......... Now, I am not an emotional guy but I am someone who values truth. Guy and Charlie....your ceremony was pure truth, pure love and pure joy.

To see you both surrounded by friends and family sharing your love for one another was very special. Not only for you but for all of us that were privileged to witness it. I wish you both a lifetime of success and happiness together. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it.

Ben and Tanya Mallet

I have to say that I am a huge fan of quaint churches but the church that Ben and Tanya chose was ornate and almost as beautiful as the bride that day!

We decided to go out to Lamoureux Park to shoot the posed portion of the day and although it was scorchingly hot, with no shade, everyone did amazing!

Tanya was pleasure to shoot and looked absolutely beautiful!! If she wasn't comfortable in front of the camera, I would never have guessed. She was a complete pro!!

They were a great couple to work with.

JILL AND TYLER

We had a VERY wet summer. This made for some very nervous moments for brides and photographers alike. Thankfully, the clouds separated long enough for this wonderful wedding. Jill was one of the the most relaxed brides I have ever worked and it was an absolute pleasure. Tyler's dad was working on the sweet vintage car prior to the wedding and took a little smack to the head. Nothing a little tape couldn't fix. haha The entire day went off without a hitch....well one hitch. ;)
