THE BRIDE! (2026) dir. maggie gyllenhaal
In the original myth, the Bride is an "object" created to satisfy the Monster. Here, however, Ida becomes the sun around which the entire film revolves.
I'm struck by the fact that Christian Bale (an absolute star) agrees to play the grotesque "sidekick." This suggests that the film is truly focused on the awakening of her conscience.
The fact that she already had a seed of rebellion before, and that what happens makes it "explosive," transforms the monster into a perfect metaphor for the repressed rage of those who have always been silenced.
I'm fascinated by the crazy visual packaging, but I'm struck by the political choice of finally giving voice and identity to a character who, for a century, remained only a silent shadow in cinema.
