FRANKENVEMBER DAY 8: All We Know

Prompts:

Synopsis:

"It is a universal habit of humanity to seek out undeserved happiness, so why don't we allow ourselves to do so? I am soon to be your bride, dearest Victor, and you my husband. We have but one solace in this mortal coil, and that is our love. Shall we not indulge in this singular scrap of peace fallen into our possession? Let us be each other's beacons of love in this stormy sea."

Elizabeth and Victor have known each other since the beginning of time and have nothing else now. They must be perfect for each other; Caroline declared it so. What they have needs to be good, because it's the only thing they've got.

Additional notes:

Uhhh. Well. This is centered on Elizabeth and Victor, as they're told in the 1818 text. Sooo all the baggage that comes with that relationship is present in this fic. By "baggage" I mean the groomed-into-incest thing and the manipulation it took to get both of them (but mostly Elizabeth) there. They're- not okay and I'm not gonna pretend they are. But they think they're okay. But they're not. So just. Uh. Keep that in mind :)

also this is not following the prompts very closely lol. I've had this idea for a long time already, I just kept putting off writing it, so I decided to sandwich it into Frankenvember to force myself to write it

Finished my fic for day one of Frankenvember! This one is for the prompt 'bloodied hands'

Victor is exhausted in the middle of the Creature's creation. 'Exhaustion and stubbornness do not make for the best combination, but Victor Frankenstein has both in spades, and if that’s what he’s got to work with – well then, he’ll use the latter to force his way through the former. The ache that permeates every part of his body demands that he rest, but he’s close, so close.'

Exhaustion and stubbornness do not make for the best combination, but Victor Frankenstein has both in spades, and if that’s what he’s got to work with – well then, he’ll use the latter to force his way through the former. The ache that permeates every part of his body demands that he rest, but he’s close, so close.

His shaking hands slip, and he nearly drops his scalpel. Although he does not mutter a word that his father would be disappointed to know he knew, he comes alarmingly close to doing so. Not that it matters – he's alone here, thank goodness. If anyone saw him like this –

This time he really does drop the scalpel. Really does say that word as the blade slices into his icy hands, numb enough that he barely notices the pain.

In the grey of late-autumn, tinted by the fog outside the building and in Victor's own mind, the blood on his hands stands out scarlet. Everything else seems monochrome in comparison.

It doesn't occur to him to wipe the blood away; all that matters is that he finishes this. He simply leans over to pick it up once more. Back to work, though his hands are bloodied.

Even though the book makes the reader feel sympathetic towards the Creature, he still killed directly and indirectly a lot of people out of his own volition.

Victor is oblivious to Clerval. Be it his careful concentration or the adrenaline rush to being almost finished. The sight is nothing but horrific. Victor's pale bloodied hands in the middle of an opened corpse, the bludgeons of flesh on the discarded scalpel and a limb left out on the table.

Henry's voice comes out with utmost abhorrence.

“What have you done?”

Victor whips his neck around to see his friend shaking violently, a hand brought to his mouth. Henry flees instantly.

Victor anticipates his return. Henry always finds him.

But Henry doesn't come back.

Victor’s never felt more isolated.
