Jazz was diagnosed with Anorexia when she was 15 and has been fighting the illness ever since. She discusses how mental health services deal with issues and how sufferers of mental disorders can be helped. Jazz speaks openly about her struggles with eating disorders and how she felt invisible to the support services because she wasnât thin enough! She talks about the need to change the way the illness is dealt with and the danger of treating people by putting them into boxes. Jazz is a 21 year old from Guernsey and is currently studying Social Work at the University of York. She was diagnosed with Anorexia nervosa and Clinical depression at the age of 15 and has been raising awareness of eating disorders throughout her recovery. Her experience of various mental health services has lead her to speak out about the challenges she has faced and she is now a voluntary member of the Board for The Youth Commission of Guernsey & Alderney.
things to remember:
- there is nothing shameful about being hungry (even when your mind tells you you âshouldnâtâ be) - there is nothing shameful about listening to your body (even if it feels like you are doing something wrong) - do not compare what your body needs to what other people are eating, they are not you - you always have permission to eat more
Ya donât need abs to be fab
I miss being sick but I love having energy more.
I miss my old body but I love my friendships more.
I miss the safety of treatment but I love the opportunities of the real world more.
I miss being untouchable but I love caring about life more.
I miss my eating disorder but I love myself more.
Why You NEED Fats
1. First off, your brain is more than two-thirds fat. Every single cell membrane in your body is made of fatâŚ.thatâs 37.2 TRILLION cells, each needing fat.
2. Without fats, you cannot absorb the vitamins and minerals in other foods.
3. Hormones are fat soluble. Without fat, you wonât be able to reproduce, to have hunger/fullness cues, and so so much more.
4. Fats provide a feeling of satiation (fullness). (So, without fats youâre actually more likely to overeat.)
5. Fats canât be made by the body without nutritional intake of fats. We basically need them for every function in our body, so eating fats is super important.
10% of your ana buddies may be dead in 10 years. They will never see 30. May never have the chance to find true love.
20% will likely be dead within 20 years. That is worse odds than Russian roulette. They will leave children without a mother or father.
If you are encouraging your buddy to fast or purge you are helping ana and mia kill your friend.
There is hope. There are healthy alternatives to starvation. There is help out there. Save your friendâs life. Get them help. Donât help ana and mia kill them.
Veganism does NOT cause eating disorders. The media, body insecurities and self hatred do.

Am I emotionally hungry but physically full, or am I physically hungry but emotionally full? Because damned if I know.
If you want your life to be a magnificent story, then begin by realizing you are the author and everyday you have the opportunity to write a new page.

We often want it so badly that we ruin it before it begins. Overthinking. Fantasizing. Imagining. Expecting. Worrying. Doubting. Just let it naturally evolve.
