the artist I recommended talks about it too, but blurring lines can be great, I usually do it for my riso comics, and for any gradient map pieces.
left is my inks, right is my inks duplicated, blurred, and placed underneath the normal ink layer.

Below- for gradient maps it's especially helpful to blur if your pen doesn't have many opaque pixels, it needs those to have an effect on the lines, and blurring it gives it those pixels
I don't tend to blur my colour layers, but maybe I should!

It was a lot of work to put my art gallery together and get it working, but because I didn't see literally anything on creating such a gallery (other than ready-made templates) I decided to write up a tutorial hoping it will help others who want to code a more robust art gallery that goes beyond just using a simple slideshow/lightbox. Each image is its own post, like how deviantArt works.

so. i was not happy with the 3D models of horses on offer in the CSP store or literally anywhere else i could find them, i needed one to use for my work, and i went ahead and made my own that is now available for the low low price of FREE in the CSP assets store.
textures included are greyscale basic shapes, multicolor basic shapes, and white with no shapes (but eyes, mouth, nostrils, and hooves emphasized for ease).
shape is ROUGHLY based off the silhouette of an Andalusian. size-wise, it by default stands at around 16 hands, but of course it can be resized to suit your needs. for that, I recommend sizing a human pose doll to the correct height (in centimeters), lining them up on the same plane, and resizing the horse to match the human doll's height. remember that a horse's height is measured at the shoulders!

Hi! How did you learn to draw characters in a stylized way while making them recognizable?
first things first, and that is learning the basics of drawing a likeness from observation. looking at a face, noting how it looks from different angles, how it moves and changes with different expressions, and drawing that in a realistic manner. once you're confident with the more realistic way of drawing a likeness, then you can break it down and fit it into your style.
more specific example under the cut
here's how i'd go about studying a face:
tracing is a great tool for study!! not something to be used for finished work unless you own the pictures, but a great learning tool nevertheless. you start to learn the angles, divots, features, and folds of a person's face by repetition
after studying features, i start drawing from reference and picking out which features stick out to me as the features which make that person recognizable
with deforest kelley in particular, these ones stand out to me: square jaw, lower lip, arched eyebrows, hooded eyes, eye bags, and the smile lines
then putting him and his most recognizable features into my style...
i like to emphasize how square he is!! im not particularly into organic shapes and lines, so i keep things pretty sharp and simplify things into a couple lines and angles. wrinkles are super important to any likeness imo but i also dont want to overcrowd the face, so i keep it to the most prominent wrinkles.
i don't have any drawn examples here, but i find teeth to be really important to a likeness as well – ive seen people draw the gap in his teeth often, i tend to draw the chip in his tooth (both present during tos era, but i think he got some dental work to cover it in the 70s or 80s). on other faces sometimes there are prominent front teeth, canines, or specific crooked teeth. they add a lot more to an appearance than people usually think, i love it when people have really specific teeth lmao
anyways i hope it doesnt come across as like. weird or obsessive or anything. i just think people and their specificities are really intriguing.... it's really interesting to try to put it to paper..
August Adipose is a month long drawing challenge started by kivanbay on Twitter which challenges artists to draw bodies not often represented in mainstream media!
So... why draw a fat model?
#1: Not everyone is skinny or toned. In fact, most people aren't. Drawing a fat model gives you real life practice for drawing realistic body types and shapes and helps you learn where fat can land on a human being so you're better equipped to draw convincing people!
#2: Representation matters! Since bodies vary in shape and size, seeing yourself reflected in the media you consume is important to developing a healthy body image. Fat doesn't mean unhealthy, and any little bit we can do to normalize different body types will help us unlearn years of indoctrination about skinny = healthy. You can help by including fat characters into your roster!
#3: Fat is fun! One thing I hear from people a lot is that they loved doing figurative drawings and gesture drawings of fat people the most. Let's face it - fat is really fun to draw. It gives you the opportunity to add new shapes to your artwork and can help you develop your overall understanding of light and dark.
