Mental illness is a bitch! I can’t even grow my beard like I used too! My arms don’t look like that anymore and that was only four years ago! Within those years I lost both my parents and realized people are trash! I’m going to smile once again! I’m going to get right with myself! I only trust myself!

On this day in 1865, slaves in Texas were notified by Union Civil War soldiers about the abolition of slavery. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln issued the final Emancipation Proclamation which freed all enslaved Black Americans. Juneteenth was the celebration of the freed slaves in Texas and now we recognize it as a celebration of the freedom of enslaved African Americans across the USA. I personally think it makes a lot more sense for us to recognize this day as opposed to recognizing July the 4th. July 4th commemorates America's freedom from England, but African Americans were not free on that day and would not be legally freed for another one hundred years. So Happy Juneteenth!
