Today I told my post partem depression no and went to the park with my son. It’s not as easy as saying no and just driving 30 mins to the park. Easter has always been my favorite. I remember the smell of the grill, the way my grandmother’s para to salad tastes, the sound of my mom laughing so hard she snorted and when us kids asked what was so funny, my mother’s cousins would say, “ grown up woman stuff.” The feeling of waiting in the front yard because someone heard the Easter bunny was close. Then the rush as our parents let us into the back to find eggs filled with candy and stickers and eventually when we got older a golden egg filled with money. One year I hit the bunny piñata so hard the stick bounced back and I got a bloody nose. Cousin Ruby couldn’t stop laughing and my mom tried so hard not to laugh as she tended to me. The yard littered with confetti because there was a cascarones war between cousins. I never wanted to leave my Andrea’s house and on rare occasions our moms would say yes and we’d stay up as late as possible wired on candy. I can’t wait to share this celebration of growth and change with you. I want to always fill your world with color. Today I celebrate 5 months of being mom. It has been a bumpy, curvy road of trial and error learning to see the power in myself that I have been able to see in so many other women. Learning to be kind to myself. Learning when to take time for myself and to nourish my physical body. Learning to ask for help when I need mental alone time.
