Well, the tag is sour. Just liked I hoped it would be. But spoilers aside, lets address some things:

1.) “The anime should make sense on its own!! You shouldn’t have to read the Light Novel!!”

Ah, this is silly, This is like saying, hey, lets adapt Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring into live action and just kinda stop afterwards. I mean sure, its only a third of the whole story, but whatevs.

In other words, what people are asking for is the anime to make 1/10th of the full plot (literally, the LN series is projected to have 10 novels, this season covered 1), into a cohesive story with a beginning middle and end. While it was perhaps more logical to end the show right after the Seventh was exposed, you have to realize that this whole heroes’ journey wasn’t going to be completed in 12 episodes. We’ve barely seen some of these characters be developed!! To want a conclusive ending where most of the cast is still largely two dimensional is the real crime. And if that is something you can tolerate, there is this show called Sword Art Online that

Also the practice of using one season of anime to advertise your light novel is hardly a new practice. Its a crap one, but welcome to the anime industry and its associated tragedies. 

2.) “Nothing changed!”

Haaaah, some people haven’t watched Katanagatari. The reality is that actually quite a bit changed. Characters changed, relationships changed, roles in the group changed, what we know about the enemy changed – a whole lot changed. Moreover, the “new” Seventh that shows up doesn’t keep the whole team locked down. They just decide to keep moving and who the Seventh is is almost relegated to a subplot. It is something that is on everyone’s mind but it is not the centerpiece of the story from here onward.

3.) “This show ruined my ship! That ending doesn’t even make sense in a relationship way!!?”
