Google Posts: the new promotion function for Google My Business
Recently, out of nowhere, Google released a new one – for free! – useful feature introduced for any business that has signed up with Google online . This feature has been dubbed Google Posts, or simply Google Posts in Dutch. The feature has been around since 2016, but only for events, movies, museums & sports leagues. Now it's rolled out to anyone with a Google My Business account.
Google My Business: What's That Again?
Definitely an 'oh yeah' moment; Google My Business, or My Business, is your business listing in Google, identified by the information block on the right in Google. This appears when you search for your company name in Google , and displays all kinds of useful information about your company, such as contact information, photos, reviews and now also your latest messages.
See here an example of what GMB (Googly My Business) looks like, with such a message, which appears when you Google 'Fresh Review' in this case:
It stands out even more on Mobile than on the desktop version! Because a narrow screen shows less other information, a Google Post is very prominent in the picture. See our example:
What can you post with Google Posts?
Google Posts is Ideal for highlighting your latest content, an important download or a certain product. It is possible to post a whole range of messages. For example, think of:
Your latest blog or newsletter
The product brochure of your range
An event you'll be organizing soon
Your latest white paper
A new website page
Basically everything, as long as you have an image, description & a link. By the way, also make sure to add a 'Call to Action', which sends the Googling audience directly to your post or landing page. Are you organizing an event? How do you set up Google Posts?
This is quite simple. If you are in Google my Business more often, you will have noticed the new function. Isn't that the case? Then follow the step-by-step plan below:
Go to Google My Busines
Log in with your Google Account at the top right, or create one if you don't already have one
Click on Google Posts links on the left & write your post!
Here you can then add an image or information (maximum 300 words), link the message to your event & add a CTA button.
How do you gauge your result?
Of course you want your Posts to be clicked as often as possible. That's why we at Fresh Review are currently experimenting with what works best. For example, we make a distinction between the type of content (we post an article, or for example a download), the type of image, the description and the button.
That's why it's important to keep track of how well your Posts are performing. In the 'Posts' window you will find all your Posts. As soon as you click on one, you will see the number of times it has been viewed, plus the number of times someone has clicked on it.
Tip: In the 'Insights' window you will find some nice statistics about the performance of your company on Google. The first pie chart is perhaps the most interesting: it shows how often your business is found based on branded keywords – that is, your company name or address, for example – and based on categories, products or services you offer.
Your Google post is only valid for a limited time
Like all good things, your Google Post will eventually come to an end. The life of a post seems to be exactly one week, so it does require some maintenance. On the other hand; a new message will be posted soon, of course.
